Spotted: Red A3 S-Line in Birchwood

Just driving home about 10 mins ago and spotted an Red A3 S-Line 3 door driving in my area with his sidelights and foglights on Not hard to tell he hasn't got xenons I love when people put their sidelights on with fogs to try and compensate. When will they even learn?

How do fog lights try to compensate for Xenons? They hardly shine any extra light out.

I think that N8 is saying....The driver put on every other light he could to avoid actually putting on the main beams which would give away the fact he doesn't have xenon. Although i may be wrong!

Why hide that you dont have xenons? I am proud for not having them!

Until somebody finds a way to make sure that xenons are ALWAYS leveled properly I don't want them. I find it unbelievable that you see so many new cars with misaligned xenons blinding oncoming traffic. I think xenons should be forbidden until a proper solution to this problem is found. The current solution with autoleveling systems simply does not work. Until that time, not having xenons shows that you at least give a damn about your fellow drivers.

BTW: In case of the new A4 the non Xenon units actually look better too

I didn't buy my car from new so i didn't spec it and not really bothered if i've got xenons or not. I hardly drive at night anyway. I'll be fitting Philips Xtreme bulbs and saving £700 - 1000. Nice and white and not far off the performance of Xenons either.
I'm not usually the road rage type, i'm quite tolerant, but if one more Range Rover driver comes behind me at night with xenons flashing in my mirror like some discoteque i will batter him within an inch of his life, i have a bat in the car ready...Just saying.

id take a sunroof and some more bits instead!

Paul is right. What I'm trying to say is. Xenons are the FULL HD 1080p of the lighting world, so when some1 hasn't got them they put their fog lights on to try and compensate for it. Mostly young kids.

They think thats legal as opposed to using fog and main beam although im not sure.

I assume you mean they use the fogs to cast more light onto the road rather than anything to do with hiding the fact that they don't have xenon lights.

I always drive with the main beam and fogs on as I think the more lights on the front of the car the better. I'd rather the nutters were able to see me than hit me head on because they couldn't see me on a sunny day.

What bugs me more than anything is people who drive with just their sidelights on. If it is dark enough to need sidelights it is dark enough for the main beam in my view.

Hi, Around my area the police are always pulling idots over for have fog light on, Its not worth have the fine!!!!!(FOG LIGHTS ARE FOR FOGGY DAYS ONLY) if they can't see without them they shoudn't be on the road!!!!!

You shouldn't admit that too often Marc. I despise people who have their fogs and main beams on when there is no need for it, I'm all for better safety and vision, and as such have my lights on during the day should it get cloudy, but having fogs on when it's not foggy just looks ridiculous. It's always the French cars which seem to do this as well.

What happens if you dazzle someone who loses full sight momentarily, and they end up rearranging the front end of your shiny A3?

I agree a lot of cars with xenons have them shining all over the place, I check mine every so often to make sure they are within range, and I've never been flashed so I assume all is OK. Those big 4x4's are lethal when coming over a hill, the xenon's go directly in my line of vision rendering my retina's obsolete for 10 seconds.

Think your missing the point of xenons... I dont have them because they look good, I have them as the light up the road better!

But using your rationale why have a sunroof when you could save £750-850 and open a window...

I agree. The vision of the road with xenons to normal halogen lights is like the difference between Man Utd and Derby!! I agree though J, I hate sunroofs!!!
