My little trip to France [Lots of Pics!]

Still not done the sums! I've been busy, I'll get on it asap.

I think I'd rather leave on Friday night, to get to the hotel by early Saturday, have a few hours nap and around midday go for a blast, get back at 7 or 8pm hit the sack and get up on sunday at a normal time for some more hoonage.

It does sound a bit crazy, but it actually worked really well when I did it, didn't feel tired at all on saturday. It really helps if you have a mate to come along with you to share the driving and the fuel bills! Although I wouldn't want more than two people in the car really, not ideal when you're blasting it around the gorge, plus you wouldn't get as much hooning in!

p.s.

Well... I can do Friday not fussed really. Im game no probs. Got a mate coming along two people per car is better in my eyes too... Plus the car will be nice and light to really enjoy the driving.:arco:
But just wondering what if there works out to be too many cars there won't be an issue with hotels will there.
I got a mate who wants to come too.. He's got an Orange S3 wants to add it to the convoy too.
Cheers mate.

I would say leave on the Friday. Catch an evening train circa 7-8 or so and have a short drive.

Im up for this 100% !!!! sorry ive been away for ages not really had much time on my hands !

Don't think my funds would permit this so soon after some quick calculations. But will have to see route/mileage/costs.

I was expecting a later date circa July myself so people could prepare, booking would be cheaper and hotels would be more avaliable.

Just my two cents. Nothing to stop a Summer, Autumn and Winter additions!

Ok guys brace yourselves!

Fuel + Toll Roads + Euro Tunnel = £632 (£316 each) and then another £50 each for the hotel room...

BUT, we got an expencive Euro Tunnel ticket @ £176 (there are cheaper ones) and we really did rip it across France! averaging around 20-22mpg's. If we cruise it we could get much better mpg. Obviosuly when we get to the gorge our mpg will drop! Another thing to note is that we did over 1900 miles but this time we can cut out Millau which will save a couple of hundred miles.

So now you know that (based on 2 people in each car) it'll be £300+ each, who is still keen? I personally think it's well worth it, but I'll understand if people feel it is too much for a 3 day hoon. Also, bear in mind the Ferry is cheaper than the euro tunnel if you don't mind a longer crossing.

How much of that was fuel? Or rather whats Euro and Toll? Some of us are running diesel power!

Seems quite a bit, but definitly worth it! But I'll probably have to miss out - just impacted insurance and service :(

looking at my internet statement, I *think* the fuel came to a total of £372 and tolls came to £83 but the descriptions in the statement arn't great, but fuel+tolls=£456

Can everyone who wants to come confirm? also let me know if you're a maybe. If we book the hotel/train early we might get some better deals.

Cheers,

Al.

Thanks, it would be great if you could! Not sure when everyone can make it down to the euro tunnel, but I think Friday night would be a good bet, around 8/9/10 o'clock (can everyone make that?)

Three options, We either meet at the services before the euro tunnel on the M20, or we meet in Calais or in the south of France, or we could do a little of them all depending on when people can make it.

When can people make it to the euro tunnel?

Can't wait for this, it's going to be like a mini gumball!! :) :racer:

Some amazingly artistic photos here showing off the car and scenery in the best possible way! Thanks for taking the time to post.

I think the best option is the services before euro tunnel. A lot of the fun in doing something like this, is the atmosphere when you're with a load of other people doing the same thing. I've no doubt it'd be great if you did it on your own, but it'll be a hundred times better if you're in a group/convoy.

Oh, and I'll be coming down from Leeds, so the later the better on the Friday. If anyone wants to meet up with me somewhere between Leeds and the tunnel let me know. We might as well get the group together as early as possible.

totally agree, but if people can't make it in time or get delayed we might have to meet them in France.

Could you put me down as a maybe for this please

Got back from 8days in France a couple of hours ago and love driving over there. Vpower was around €1.50 a litre.

Helped the French police test their handheld speed guns while I was there. The 3 I tried worked so well I donated 270 euros to help them buy some more. ;)

Excellent, the more the merrier :) Unlucky about the speed gun, I was caught by a fixed camera, but from what I hear I should be ok since they don't bother with cars from the UK.

Stay in Etap hotels and it's £30/night

Cool, I'll check that out.

Right, swap me from maybe to definitely!

Awesome! :)

Bonsaï Hotel Vitrolles is £27 a night for a twin or triple. Not bad.

I've used these a few times, 35 euro per room. Basic but clean!

Tempting but i don't think i could make it. I'll be going to the Nurbergring soon then in July a driving holiday from Barcelona > Monaco > Geneva which i'll be veering off route to sample some of the roads you guys are heading for. Also hoping to go to Normandy late summer.

Anyway, i'll be following the thread so look forward to lots of pics ....... and videos would be good!

So is it deffo for the first bank holiday in may, i'll check in with work and let you know if i can get the sat off (which shouldnt be a problem) if i can i'll be there, but the lower the costs could be the better!

Has this been posted in the 8l section??? anyone mind?

Hi guys, any update on the likley costs?

It looks like i may be travelling alone, GF's away on work :(

Ive asked a few mates, and £300 each was met with :wtf:

Well Calais to Vitrolles and back is 1310 miles @ 25mpg = 54.2 gallons = 238.42 litres of fuel @ 1.50 EUR a litre = 357.63EUR and thanks to the strength of the euro at the moment = £282.13

Then add on however much it costs you to get to the euro tunnel.

Then add about £60 for a double/twin/tripple hotel room for a couple of nights

Then add around £140 for the euro tunnel

Then add ~£80 for tolls

Then add fuel for the actual gorge roads + getting to the gorge (~300 miles) = ~£60

So, per car you're looking at £622.13 from the euro tunnel.

= £311.07 per person with 1 mate in the car
= £207.38 per person with 2 mates in the car

We will really need to book soon, hotels in the south of france on a bank holiday might get full quickly! Is everyone happy booking for themselves once we have decided on a hotel? I'd rather not book loads of rooms on my card for people I've never met before! Same with the euro tunnel.

Just so I don't go and book a hotel in the wrong place, do you mean Vitrolles near Marseille? I'm struggling to find any with more than 1 or 2 rooms available.

Yup, thats right. Really? damn, let me have a look...

Shall we say this hotel:

http://www.expedia.co.uk/pub/agent.d...1/htid=1150099

and shall we book the euro tunnel out at 20:00-21:59 and the euro tunnel back at 16:00-17:59 ?

Could everyone who is coming PM me their email address?

p.s. I'm still looking for a co-pilot so if anyone on here is keen give me a shout!

p.p.s Anyone have a digital SLR? my mate with the camera can't come this time, would be good to get some nice shots of the trip :)

Hotel and train times are fine with me. How many are actually going then?

Cool, so, I guess we should try to book tomorrow then.

Its quiet'nd down a bit, I'll PM all the people that have shown interest...
