hi all,

after much debating between the A4/A3 cab, finaly made my mind up and going for the A3, thought as it's newer out and there won't be many of them about near me (hopefully)

going for a 1.9tdi s-line in phantom black with leather/alcantara upgrade
xenons with led running lights, rear parking and the bose upgrade.

hoping to take delivery end of may early june time, here's counting

Good stuff...get the interior light package but most importantly the Bluetooth phone prep, centre armrest and MFSW... these are a must really...

i was wondering about the interior light package, as for the bluetooth i was going to have that installed later, the s-line cab comes with centre armrest,
but what's MFSW??????????:uhm:

Multifunction steering wheel... great to control stereo and with the bluetooth to make calls and go through your contacts...

Really mate... retrofit the sat nav if you wish... but these items make yourself a favour and order them from factory...

cheers for the info

it comes with the MFSW as standard too. i'll have to look into the bluetooth, i just think that £385 is a fair amount of cash to pay for something that i fitted in my old car for £60 especially when i hardly use the phone while driving.

anyone know how i can put up the pdf file of the new A3 Cabriolet???

thought it might be of interest for people wanting to look into it.

just noticed on the pdf file that audi charge £190 for the
Light and rain sensor pack on the A3, but they charge £325 for the same thing on the cabriolet model?????????????? how can there be so much price differance, surely there's no differance in fitting this stuff????

same with the rear parking its £260 on the hatchback and £300 on the cabriolet!!!!!!!!!!

as the old saying goes less is more

If you don't smoke, the no smoking pack, which is free, is also a good idea, one of my colleagues has just got the standard smoking setup, and regrets not getting the non smoking setup. You are lucky if you can get your spare change in the ashtray, but can get all your mobiles, wallet etc in the non smoking space.

With you on the Bose, will drown out the rattling old 1.9Tdi motor noise. Why don't you drop the Xenons, and Fairy lights and put the money towards a 2.0Tdi, newer quieter motor! Also question the Leather Alcantara option but it's your shout matey.

Think they just dont give you a ciggy lighter. Just a flap and a place to plug in your charger or whatever else it is you can plug into cigarette lighters nowadays.

Ohh and unless you really fancy auto light rain sensors... don't get them.... some users complaining about the autowipers stopping and working at their pleasure....

Pedro

Just a tip about Xenons... if you never had them you will see the difference! Well worth the money... Any car I buy will have them from now on... Not to show off, they really give lots more light... safety

I'm puzzled by this. I've read it a couple of times too but mines been faultless so far. They start going before I notice the rain myself! I've got it at its most sensitive but I've got to say that I have no complaints at all with them.

I don't have them.... only stating what some forum members have said....

Personally I would not order them as I like to control the lights and the wipers myself...

Same here. The thing is, nothing stands still. Cars are developed and updated continuously. Just because a 2008 model has auto wipers it cannot be assumed that the control system, and thus the mode of operation, is identical to earlier models. This also applies to mechanicals such as the DSG/ S-tronic gearbox. There are many versions of both the hardware and firmware tracking the development. Which is why it often amuses me that sometimes all A3 cars are condemned as rubbish etc just because the poster has a particular system that may well have been deficient at that time but has subsequently been modified for later production models.

Nowt wrong with my Wipers/lights either.

Everythings on auto. When it rains, the wipers wipe, when its dark, the lights come on :icon_thumright:

I know some members have complained about their wipers stopping when they stop at junctions but I think you will find that applies to the 'normal' wipers which go to one speed lower than they are set for when the car stops.

This does not apply to the auto-wipers. I tested mine the other day and they keep wiping whenever there is water on the screen, stopped or not.

I had them in an 06 A6, not worth the money but then again it's dark 18 hours a day in Scotland!!

well no arguments from me... but for me Xenons all the way and useless automatic rain/light sensors...

A useful space where the air-tray is normally located and a 12v socket with a spring hinged cover in the area next to the hand brake. I find the space usefel for my glasses case etc.

Here is apicture of my A3 and you can see the covered socket next to the hand brake.

Definitely get the xenons - I wouldn't spec a car without them now - much better than stock.

I've not had a problem with my auto wipers - not sure about the auto light - wouldn't bother with that again.

Non-smoking pack is great - nice storage area.

hi all,

after much debating between the A4/A3 cab, finaly made my mind up and going for the A3....

Have you been able to get a test drive of the A3 Cabrio ?
I didn't realise there were any in the Country yet.

I would recommend the light & rain pack too. Works flawlessly on my car.

no test drive,
the dealer near me has only just managed to order there demo, so there not even getting there's in until may/june time, so i'm buying it quite blind:uhm:

Sounds nice. Be good to see the pics when you get it. Do they have the new Common rail diesel as option? What made you pick the 1.9?

in all honesty, the price differance, is there that much between the 2 engines??? and i thought that if i want more power then i'd chip it.

Engines Power Transmission Recommended OTR
1.9 TDI 105PS 5-speed manual £24,145.00
2.0 TDI 140PS 6-speed manual £26,155.00

Found a couple of pictures. In the First Picture, you can see the actual ashtry, and the massive amoutn of unused space 'behind' it, and the second, the ashtray delete option. This guy did it himself

If you can stretch to the 2.0tdi then go for it! My A3 is great but the 1.9 engine that I went for is a little sluggish in my opinion...

I thought about that, but then the price goes towards an A4 cab (with the discounts available on them) but i like the idea of having a car that hopefully you wont see many of them around for a while.
And the fact that it's a convertable, i wont be bothered about the performance so much as if i was buying another hatchback (the one i'm running now has over 200bhp) and i thought even if it feels a little underpowered then i could chip it for sub £500. (well i'm guessing here)
I wish i'd have been able to drive the car to get a comparison, but as there not getting to the dealers for a few months, i'll just have to take the chance:unsure:

The perils/joys of being the first to order a new car design............

I've got a 1.9 sportback & think its a fine engine, seems nippy enough to me & i don't drive like miss daisy really, I've driven a 2.0 Tdi & yes it is a fair bit quicker, but that doesn't mean that the 1.9 is a tractorish as alot would make you think.

I wouldn't go for the 1.9 in a soft-top. Its not a bad performer for the money, but its very noisey compared to the newer engines. Not such a problem in a nice, well isolated cabin, but with the roof down I can see it being quite annoying!

To be honest, if you are worried about diesel noise in an a soft top, the difference between the 1.9 and 2.0 would be negligible, with the roof down at low speed you will hear a lot of noise

one moving though they'll both quieten down a lot
