TDI 140 and 170 owners please post your MPG

I am not going for the S-Tronic this time.
It is good, but didnt think it was worth the extra £££ as I am mostly on the motorway, was good on A and B roads, and also S-Tronic is supposed to eat a few more MPG.

I prefer having full control so got a manual as well. Good choice

Any thoughts on colour and spec?

I've got S-Tronic and I'm mostly on the motorway too which was 90% of the reason for getting DSG, I hate manuals sat in traffic jams!! I love my DSG, well worth the money. Car's still being run in, once its mapped, then I'll start using the paddles me thinks :yum:

yeah the paddles are good fun, but its kinda been there done that for me this time round.

As for the spec, I really liked what I had before so I am thinking of the following?

A3 TDI 170, S-Line, Brilliant Black, Arm Rest, IPod Connection, Light and Rain Sensor Pack.

I am still thinking about cruise control, I have this on my current car but really dont use it that much, and I am also thinking about the heated seats, but again not sure how much I would really use these, and I normally hot and want the AC on as opposed to feeling cold.

I have thought about the flat tyre indicator as lots of people seem to be on about it, but I am not sure I see the point. Mrs has it in her Mini, and I dont think its worth the £££ but happy to hear reasons why.

Have you had the ipod connection previously? If not I wouldn't recommend it, its fairly limited. Doesn't tell you what the track names are etc.

I dont have heated seats and even on the really cold winter mornings we've had its not bothered me. Only cold for the 1st couple of minutes till my body heat warms them up. I think with heated seats it'd get too hot and its a lot of money to only use them for the 1st couple of mins of a journey every now and then...

No not had the ipod connector before?
Shame to hear its no good, seems like my options list is shrinking :)
So what can you do with it? I assumed it would show tracks on the screen as its in the glove box, and also allow me to change tracks etc from the stereo controls.

I think the heated seats are £250, I wouldnt consider electric seats, as you say pointless.

You have to weigh up whats worth it and what isn't. Electric seats are nice but £1300 all together isn't really worth it for me.

I went from Devon to Hertfordshire & back yesterday 140DSG had 58.7mpg in the DIS the highest yet for me, had this for most of the journey until i put my foot down in places.
Only used one full tank of fuel as well.

140 TDI

gets hammered everywhere - won't return less than 46 mpg

have often seen 55 mpg when cruise set at 80mph

update:

just got back from a week's fun in Les Arcs in France

1269 miles round trip - 2 up, car loaded up to the gills, 2 sets of skis and a board on the roof and it returned 49.2 mpg

cheaper than sleazyjet

Would you belive me if I told you that I got 58.2mpg over 60miles this morning?? :shutup2:

Couldn't believe it, however, I did free wheel it a bit and was doing around 45/50mpg in traffic

Once I headed back and traffic flowed a bit more freely it went down to 52mpg which is still awesome in my mind!:superman:

but is that on the DIS? As I dont fully rely on the DIS to tell me the truth... always do full tank to empty, see how many miles it did and how much it takes to fill up and work it out from there. Prob more accurate than the DIS.

it was DIS but i do agree with you but im never near those figures - i usually get 450-500 a tank

best i think was 524 before i got scared and filled up

I've got a 170 and I'm showing 49mpg in DIS 2 with under 11k on the clock. On the motorways I get between 46-54mpg depending on how i drive it,but i have had down to 24mpg !!!!!.Normal miles per tank-525miles
:undwech:

'07 170 s-tronic DIS2 showing 45mpg from new @ 9k. In S and flooring it can bearly get 24. Easily get 55 at a steady 70 mph, but can top 60+ easily by sitting (closely) behind an artic at 56 mph on cruise and getting a tow, quite scary though and dosent do much good to my paintwork!

Does Quattro lose may MPG? 170 Q figures look good but what about real life?:hi:

I've got a re-mapped 170 Quattro and I'm showing 39mpg in DIS 2 with under 3k on the clock. On the motorways I get between 42-52mpg depending on how spirited the drive is! Normal m/way driving I get about 48mpg.

What is the re-map. Is it more economical after the re-map?

TBH I couldnt tell you because I had it done from new. Its running at about 205bhp. I'd say that a remap is more economical depending on how its driven. If your light footed then for the extra power you'll get about the same MPG as standard. If you drive it hard then it isnt more economical.

Does the DIS lie?

Tank capacity 55lts approx = 12.1 gallons (quattro 60lts = 13.1 gallons) if you get 525 miles from a full tank 525/12.1=43.3 MPG or Quattro 525/13.1=39.7MPG

Does quattro have a bigger tank?! I thought the fuel tanks were the same in all spec A3's! I wouldnt go as far as the DIS lieing... just slightly innacurate I think

Who did re-map, what was involved and how much did it cost. Is Insurance company OK? Extra premium?:tumble:

Got it from the hand book buddy 'front wheel drive 55lts' 'four wheel drive 60lts'. I agree they are innacurate, but do you think they are innacurate to make them seem better than they acctually are?

It interesting but I've just noticed that you can vary the fuel consumption figures showing on the DIS using VAG-COM. It can be adjusted to between 85% and 115% of the current figure.

I had it done at my Audi dealer in Hitchin. Its by a company called Richter and I think they charge £700+ vat. Now because it was done through Audi, I've still got a valid warranty and a 3 year warranty on the map itself. As I said I had it done from new so it was included in the price of the car but because of complicated reasons that I wont go into (long story) they ******** up and only charged me £500 including vat but shhhhhhh they dont know :eyebrows:

I'm quite happy with their service. About a month ago they called my car in and put on an updated remap free of charge!

Thanks for that, will follow up. What about Insurance though?:sorry:

No worries.

Well the insurance wont like it. For them its just another excuse to get more money from you. They'll ask what the increase in power will be and you go accordingly. No idea what it'll put the insurance up by because I was never insured on it as standard so have no reference point. If your young, expect quite a hike up. If not then it shouldnt be too much.

I got 140 TDI andi get about 44mpg around town and on motorways anywhere up to 55mpg which i used to haev travelling to my old works and back everyday which was 50miles away.

Hi

Apologies for raising an old thread, I've just got a new A3 sportback 140, and the most I've had is 45mpg, I've only got around 600 miles on the clock, will this improve with time or is that the luck of the draw?

Well it all depends on how its driven. Kind of is luck of the draw too as no car will be the same... However, it will improve over time so you should see that figure rise with the miles.

Ah, thats ok then, I got 45mpg on a 60 mile trip at generally 80mph on cruise.

Well I have my 170 now. My commute is mainly motorway, but the lowest I have had was 41MPG, and best was 57MPG on the DIS.

I am more than happy, anything above 40MPG is good to me. I didnt like the over £70 to fill the tank though :(

140

39.9mpg (dis2)

420 miles per tank

(I cane the **** out of it...)

140 TDI Quattro Sport (with a Raid-hp chip)
(and selling the chip - any sensible offers considered. cost me £450)

With chip I managed to get 58 MPG on DIS, normally around 50 MPG (country roads)

In town around 35 MPG

Just a little update, now done my first proper full tank on the 170. High motorway speeds, as well as sat in London traffic, and got 563 miles from the tank, not to shabby. Its only done a total of 820 miles now too.

With hard in town/m-way driving we get an average of 530-550 miles to a tank...
This is with a 140 TDI mapped to 180/370...:)
