Anyone retro fitted the Brushed Aluminium Trim?

My S3 came with the 'piano black' and I fancy changing it.

I take it everything simply snaps on and off, or are there going to be issues re fitting?? (especially the front console - ashtray & gear surround)

Cheers,

R

Yes it does just snap off, i thought the S3 cam with the ali standard. i would be interested in buying the black trim off you if you want? i have the wood and want to change to.

I bought the car as stock from Audi, so the extras were already on.

The reason I'm changing, is the 'Piano Black' is a pain to keep clean and dust/ swirl free.

Don't want to do myself out of a sale, but I would think hard before going for the black!!

PS How did you get the ashtray cover off??

I've got piano black in mine and i actually think it looks a bit classier than aluminium but i also have considered changing it due to dust and scratches (i swear i have OCD). New set of aluminium trim are around £300 including VAT.
Apparently 'Scratch X' by Meguiars and similar products clean up the piano black trim nicely.
I've also considered mixing and matching trim as the new RS6 by keeping piano black on the gear surround and having brushed aluminium on the doors to match the handles and strips/quattro badge on the glove box.

Yep meg's do a plasticX similar to scratch X that'll remove the scratches in the piano black trim, buff it up after with a bit of wax and it'll look better than new. It seems it marks just by looking at it. Personally I think the black trim has the classier look.

Thats the problem with Piano Black, it does look great, but even the most careful detailers (me) struggle to keep it looking good and clean.

Now ordered the aluminium pack at £312 delivered!!

Hmmmm, quite like the sound of the 'scratch X'

May have a re think and cancel the order to try it!!

Thanks for the advice.

Just a point you might like to consider though....bear, brushed aluminium is more difficult to keep maintained long term then the piano black. Any tiny scratches are there for good, you can't polish them out because it's a matt brushed surface. At least with plastic any marks can be removed. You just have to learn NOT to rub dust and dirt off with your hand, always a soft cloth.

I changed my piano black for the same scratch reasons and I got fishscale trim off ebay for around £100

Definately a good change in my opinion!

Apart from interior trim is like rocking horse sh*t on Ebay. I've never even seen any on there apart from old man wooden stuff.

lol I am a patient ebayer! Its the same with the Votex kits - I spent months looking for the front splitter and side skirts!

They finally came up and are genuine Audi - however they were advertised as aluminium trim but came as fishscale

Genuine mistake from the previous owner but I was happy enough with them!

Yeah to be fair patience does pay off on Ebay, i considered buying a solid brushed alloy gearknob/stick from vagparts but they want £160.00 incl VAT which is a bit ridiculous. There are always a couple on Ebay but they have the 8L fitment. So i waited a few weeks and got one just the other day for £60. Job's a good'n.

Ebay is great to be fair - I have saved a packet but yet still spent a lot of money on that site!

Same here, i'm waiting for a brake set at the right price and some 19" sportecs for about £50 would be nice.

lol how lucky would you be :p I looked at sportec mono 10s for my motor at the time but the price was faaaaaaaaaaaaaar too much so I settled for the cheaper BBS CH lol

But they look sooooooo good!

Don;t use scratch X as it will kill the piano trim - it's for external use on paint!!!! PlasticX is the one for the interior plastics.

Seriously mate, they're just the best looking wheels. Considered doing some serious saving and getting either some in standard silver like the ones in the photo OR anthracite and having the outer rim diamond cut....Oh my!
