Hi everyone.

Just bought myself a A4 S Line Avant Quattro 190 and I'm looking to get it remapped. I've read loads of different posts but I'm confused as to what is the difference between a £250 remap which a local firm can do and £400-£500 for a AMD or Revo. They all claim similar power increases.

Thanks

Ants.

To be honest i would get it from any reputable company. Ive heard good things about Star Performance who i will get mine remapped from when i buy a 190 sport.

Theres a few choices of different remaps out there and they are getting cheaper. alot of people tend to use the well known companies as apposed to the cheaper options even though some maps are the same.
I chose a guy who had done alot of Remaps on Audi's & VW's but was £150 - £200 cheaper than most at the time. I checked out his feedback from others and made sure he had Liability insurance then went for it!

Its all depends whether you want a standard remap or a Custom one.

a custom remap will yield better results as the program is specifically taloured to suit your car

Thanks for the replies.

I think I'll give the guys at DPM a call as it's local, not badly priced and they quote around 40bhp improvement.
There is also a mobile chap in Middlesbrough called Super Tuning who is only £250. I'm just wary as I've never heard of the company.

Cheers.

A quick word of warning, I have afriend who works remapping cars and he has warned not to get a REVO remap. Apparently if they fit a test remap and then change it back to the normal one afterwards they change it back to a REVO standard map and not Audi, and the REVO one is down by approximately 10% on the audi one!!
Also if you have to take your car to Audi for any work doing that envolves accessing the ECU, Audi will no longer be able to access the ECU and insist that a new ECU be fitted..... not good.

I would recommend Mihnea at MRC Tuning in Banbury - they can do you either an off-the-shelf map, or a custom, mapped-on-the-fly-for-your-car map.

The most important thing is to ensure the re-map retains all of the ECU's standard fail-safe features so it doesn't damage reliability. You don't want to chase that really big boost figure only for the engine to go bang.

Im with Dan on that one, totally agree!

Cheer for the comments chaps.

I kinda ruled out the Revo map from seeing that it's hardley mentioned anymore.

I know I shouldn't really go for the most convinient, but it seems all places recommended are quite far away. I was thinking about Star Performance but it's still a 4.5 hour drive. I don't really have time to spend, pretty much a full day off getting it sorted at the moment so it might have to wait.

Has anyone had dealings with DPM in Newcastle? I've seen their advert on here and the website looks ok too. Plus, they are only a hours drive away.

Cheers again.

ive bought a couple bits and bobs from DPM and the chap damian was extremely helpful, i would recommend his company to anyone

I've heard good things about DPM and Star. When I got my car re-mapped by MRC I probably spent about 8 hours in the end with the drive there, the time for the ECU to be removed, custom mapped on the road, re-programmed, re-installed and drive home. I really enjoyed the whole process I have to say - seeing how Mihnea built the new map on his laptop in real-time reading the raw hex code whilst we were driving was very impressive - like those scenes out of the Matrix!

Breathes new life into your car for sure.

Dude check out Angel-Tuning. They have offices all over the place and will also come to your place of work or home for no extra cost. A remap with them costs about £300 (last time I had it done) but subsequent remaps on other cars or if you recommend them to others reduces the damage about 30%!
I had one on an Alfa 156 (along with a lot of other guys from the Alfa forum) and one on my TDI. Has bumped power to almost 180 horses.:superman:

Ha Ha ,

thats funny. Any car after having a 5 hour's of +40ish hp then going back to stock is going to fell slow again.. After the 5 hour's is up it will go back to REVO stock map that ask's for the same boost timming etc as the same Audi map... The REVO dealer also have the O.E file that can be flashed back to the car any time so if would be a Audi map 100%.

As for the price you pay for what you get in this life.

Buy a chaep CD player get poor sound !!!

Any one can get Hp from a car but its about how it drive's after it..

Sorry Mike only stating what I have been told and shown on the remapping forums. If you have to take your car back to REVO every time you require your ECU accessing by Audi (servicing, etc) so that Audi can then access the ECU, this defeats the idea of plug and play in my opinion

Any good tuner or Audi will be able to flash over revo on any other flased re-map .. Some of the cheap tuner's will just read ur ECU send it to a tuner and upload what ever they send back.. If the car has revo on then or any other good tuner's work on they cant read it as easy .. they why all our dealer's have the O.E files to flash back in if needed..

Hi Ants

Feel free to visit our website at www.p-torque.co.uk

We usually charge £345 all in for our Stage 1, however, members are offered the discount price of £265 all in, including engine diagnostics check prior to mapping.

If you search for ''p-torque'' in various forums and search engines, you can read our customers feedback :icon_thumright:

If you have any questions, or would like a chat about mapping, then feel free to e-mail me at info@p-torque.co.uk or call the office on 01902 324584

Cheers
Will

Steve - I've been on the phone to Chip Tuning today and they do sound very professional and are open at very convinient times. I took on board what people were saying about the oe map and they said they'd change it back at any point foc. Plus, if requested, they'll put it onto a cd for you.

Bonerp - I friend has just had Angel Tuning do his Stilo. They come very highly recommended on the Fiat/Alfa forums. He's really happy although I think I prefer to go with someone who specialises in VAG cars.

Dan_b - I love the sound of the custom map MRC offer but unfortuneatly, I must consider cost ;-(

Will - Cheers for that. I might have a think about a drive down to Wolverhamption at some point.

I have plenty to think about now....

Will - just looked on your website, and you dont cover the S4 4.2 V8....... Any reason for this and can you do the same price for this???:notme:

Go revomike..........

I have dealt with Mike before and he is a top bloke, extremely knowledgeable, but he does drive a Boxster, so I would be very wary of him.......

Hi James

Apologies, the website needs quite a few more additions.

I have tuned alot of the S4's....unfortunately they have 2 ECU's so it is more expensive to tune.

I have a reference if you want one. A customer chose not to pay a certain company £1100 for his re-map, and came to me. Then he went on a Dyno day with others that had the £1100 map, and they all made less than the 2 P-Torque'd S4's

Let me know what year your S4 is, and I will let you know pricing.

Thanks
Will

Will

...which is my point exactly, People always say they dont trust anyone other than the "big boys" of tuning (and who are talked about most on forums) and charge alot more and sometimes dont get nowhere near the results from ie a less popular remap company, Ebay or a by the guy who your friend knows who does remaps (and many at that) as a 2nd job!!!

Obviuosly you dont go to the guy who says he'll get 330bhp from a 1.8t but my point is you dont always have to go with these big popular tuners, its just giving them what they want, too much doe!!!!!!
I stand by what I say and always have about these remapers.:beee:

I must say though to be fair on this point, I have approx 3 customers or ''Ebay tuners'' contacting us each month to recover ECU's they have locked out due to using poor/cheap equipment and tuning software.

Key is to find a reputable tuner, which has good recommendation.

P-Torque has been going for 5 years, and I was tuning before that, good knowledge is crucial.

Consider it done.....well tomorrow anyway! Cheers buddy. ;)

Just been having a better look through your website Will, looks good. I'm going to try to down at some point I think but its a good 3.5 hour drive so I'll have to get something sorted. Have you done many 190 1.8t's? If so, what sort of result do you get? I see your website says a 40bhp upgrade but how does the rest of the car perform ie torque, economy etc. Talk soon.

Ants.

Which is the point im on about, aslong as you do your research on that person/company. You was tuning before P-Torque and I bet there is a fair share out there who are doing the same as you but havnt managed to expand a little yet!!

obviously You wouldnt go to a guy who's running a "speak n Spell" laptop with an homemade lead, of course not!
Research research and research.

In that case, anyone know anyone that has used P-Torque?? So far I have been very impressed with the price, the communication etc, but it does all come down to the remap!!

Anyone??

Hi James,
I've got my A3 booked in with Will at P-Torque on Friday morning after a friend had his seat (mumble mumble) remapped there reccomending them. I'll happily report back once it's done if I can prise myself away from behind the wheel that is.

Just had mine done :) in comparison to the revo trial I had a few weeks ago the acceleration is a lot smoother throughout the rev range. What I found with the revo is that you get a sudden surge of power that tailed off a bit earlier whilst with the p-torque remap the power increase is smooth throughout the rev range. I also had an induction kit fitted and a new diverter valve and the new sound from the turbo is nothing short of fantiastic. My only complaint is that im now burning more petrol as I feel like a kid with a new toy (and a heavier foot) :D

Al - sounds awesome!! Not sure if my consumption could get much worse as currently averaging 19mpg.....

I am still looking for examples of S4 owners that have used PTorque as the 4.2 is a non turbo, so a totally different beast. :ermm:

The reason the Revo trial did not feel so smooth is:- It is a trial it is not adjustable so there is no way of changing Timing or Fueling settings so you cannot alter Correction Factors when testing hence you will get a slight hesitation or a feeling of power surges as you noticed.
If you went for the Full Revo program and had it set up on the road all settings will be adjusted to suit your individual car. There would be no surges as the ECU will not have to knock back any settings so producing a smooth ride.

If then you are not happy you can get your money back with the 14 Day money back offer....Never used this yet but it is a nice option for peace of mind.

I dont meen to make any negative points towards the revo mod i trialed, I did really enjoy the sudden boost that I found but I wouldn't expect the trial to give a false impression of the remap. After all mines a totally different car and I've no way of knowing how any mod for your car will work all I can do is comment on my experience with the revo trial and the full stage 1 mod on my car (01 1.8t a3) from p-torque.

The trial is a excellent way of showing potensial gains in your own car, it would be great if it was fully adjustable but then the dealers would be spending 1-2 hours setting it up for FREE, so i don't think that will be happening.

No hard feelings it is a discussion forum after all.

rabs - "southwest dealer" - where are you based buddy??

I am in Bristol but can sometimes come to you if your not the other end of the earth.
