Considering lowering my S-LINE on springs only

Im considering lowering my S-line on springs only. Reason being for springs only is 1) cost and 2) comfort.

Ive had coilovers on previous cars and found them to be very harsh and bumpy and I dont want to ruin that on a car such as the A3. Either that or I must be getting old. But also I dont want to go down the route of throwing loads of money on the car like I have done on previous cars.

The car is on 18" BBS CH now with standard S-LINE suspension. Having read back on old threads it appears that there are only 2 brands (Eibach + H+R) that do spring only kits?

I dont want the car to be slammed on its belly but equally I dont want the Q7 look.

Can anyone comment on their thoughts of either kit? Is it ok to run the car on the standard shocks with these upgraded springs too? My car covers appx 16000 miles per year.

Eibach's are quality springs

I am never a big fan of the "Springs only" approach as the shocks die faster because of the unintended spring rate.

If cost is less of a concern, Bilstiens Pss10 coilovers should be a good choice as it is very near stock confort level when adjusted to the softest, but you get more control.

I doubt the Eibach springs will lower the car much below the standard S Line height, if you want it lower probably coilovers are the best option.

Well that depends on what Eibach springs you use.

Pro-Line is 30mm so slightly lower than the std S-Line springs or the Sportsline (-50mm) springs which really lower it.

Too low in my opinion but that is up to you.

BTW I have a set of Sportsline springs spare, that were on my 2005 2.0TDi S-Line when I bought it from MarriedBlonde.

I'm in the same scenario. Want to lower my car just enough to sit nicely on 19's without actually looking modified. I'm guessing a 20mm drop will be easily enough. Like you i really can't be bothered with coilovers etc.

Did you consider Abt Sportsline? I think the drop from their spring is perfect.

I've lowered my TDI quattro S-line by 45mm on H&Rs (I'm running 19s) ... the handling is spot on and they're actually more comfy than the OEM setup!

Are the ARBs better than the S-Line ones? Will they fit a quattro?

I would expect them to be, but not sure, yes they are off the quattro S3

These look great, but.... maybe about 15mm more than i'd want on mine. Do H&R make a spring with less of a drop? Say 30mm?

They do indeed...the H&R 29227-1 kit lowers a quattro approx. 35mm. I went for a custom spring for a 45mm drop.

Agreed, it does look great, what colour is that? Have you considered some roof rails? I saw a dark metallic charcoal grey sportback with the brushed chrome roof rails the other day and they looked superb...just set the whole car off perfectly.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of the roof rails - makes it look like an estate.
