It's here (BMW/Alpina/D3 thread, ignore if you're delicate)

Is the snow that bad back in Aberdeenshire?
Not good...that'll explain the lack of helicopter flights then!

How is the D3 in the snow bowfer?
Traction control up to Aberdeen winters?

Obviously a bit paranoid, considering my post wasn't aimed at you!!!! It was the post that said 'dull as cheese' - But well done for going on the major defensive, and letting everyone know your credentials.

No not paranoid at all (over what? a car? what a childish comment), i also said aspects of the car were dull so your comment applied to me also. Your post made out that you have to 'get' Alpina and know the history to comment. I was simply commenting that i find that attitude quite arrogant and patronizing to other forum users.... all you need is a pair of eyes and a mind of your own to comment on the design of a car. So no i wasn't being defensive and i'm not even siding with the person who said the car was dull as cheese....that's hardly constructive either.

I really don't give a monkey's about arguing for the sake of it and making silly picky little comments at each other, thats pathetic and too many posts are ruined by it on here.

So moving on.... Bowfer, any additions/mods you plan on making to the car or are you totally happy with the set-up?

Paul.

Thankfully, the roads aren't that bad.
Just messy, more than dodgy.
It would warrant English police telling everyone to stay indoors though.
Ye ken fit like!:sm4:

Aberdeen roads not bad this morning, but the standard of driving was amusing.

Within no more than 3-5 miles of my house, I can happily and safely reach the sorts of speeds I mentioned.
No junctions, no houses, nothing.
The only thing I'm likely to hit is an errant fox, or maybe a gypsy.
Both vermin, so doesn't matter.:icon_thumright:

My personal view is that driving in the UK at 120mph is downright stupid. Maybe not dangerous on a clear motorway in good conditions but highly iresponsible IMHO.

At least at this speed any 'vermin' will noyt have much chance to admire or throw bricks at your BM? By the way what makes you think Gypsies are 'Vermin' ?... not a very educated view of 21st century life!"!:eyebrows:

I'd much rather be near a driver who is driving fast, but is concentrating on their driving than be near one who is driving slower but is talking on the phone, constantly turning their head towards the passenger that they are chatting to, watching TV on their Sat/Nav etc etc.

In a lot of cases it's lack of concentration that causes accidents not speed but if a car is going even slightly over a speed limit is put down as a speed related accident because the police have no way of telling if the driver was concentrating on their driving.

Totally agree here Dave

I hope you are not for real pal.

Here Bowfer mate foos yer doos?

I frequently charge through Parkhead in Glasgow at more than 120mph whenever I am back in town. One of the reasons I bought Audi. The superior build quality(???)helps bounce the Parkhead gypsies into kingdom come. I would imagine that the tasty Alpina spoiler would make short work of the potato pickers though. Excellent choice.
:racer:

By the way boys, watch my team put three or four past the Bead Rattlers this weekend.

Hallelujah and aw that. :p

Ger. Hate to break it to you. but smiths tactics on sat although winning games is not convincing. My flags on the bairns mast and not swayed to the two tribes so neutral viewing.

Went along as an adopted Ger for the day at the Hibbs match. Yeh 2-1 but hibbs gave them a game and this one up front is not pretty football. Might be ok for Man U and Chelsea but Rangers ain't got that quality.

I wouldn't go so far to say 3-4 past the tic I'm afraid.

The bluebirds might be blue on sat but maybe not.

Jimmy boy we will destroy them. Just watch. King Walter is at the helm and nothing can stop us mate.

Sorry for the hijack.

Very boring bowfer, dash is poor

Christ..if it had 4 rings on the slightly silly looking, overstyled steering wheel, it'd be OK though, wouldn't it?

How can the dash be 'poor'?
Does it give the driver all the information they need?
I think so...so it can't be that 'poor' can it?

You mean it hasn't got as many lit up airvents, chintzy styling add ons, piano black/fake aluminium panels, over-engineered cupholders or multi button TV sized screens?
Does all that bling make for a 'better' dash?
Or make the 3 series dash any poorer?

It may not be to your exacting - if somewhat Audi tainted standards - but I fail to see how it's 'poor'.
It may not be to your taste...or mine. But again, this doesn't mean it's 'poor'.
Or does it?

Let's say it lacks....hmmm nothing?

Different design schools but nothing poor at all....

I would say Audi cabin is poor when compared to an Alfa then...

Might not be your taste... I actually prefer the Audi cabin as well but everything is there... Maybe BM wants you to enjoy driving and not the design glitches of the cabin so they keep it simpler?

Pedro

I'm with you Pedro..

According to out learned friend, this ethos makes it 'poor'.
I don't see it either.

The S3's dash has those ****** 'metal' look-a-like (eg plastic) vent rings, and those ****** awful heater switches. The steering wheel controls are pretty pap, and I'm not a fan of those plastic diagonal bars that go down the centre console and get in the way of your knee.

That said it seems well screwed together so I shouldn't complain.

Jeez! It's only a car! do you really care that much what he thinks of it?

Totally agree with the points you've made (especially the plastic air vent rings, the TT has nice aluminium ones), but I still think the interior is quite nice on the S3, not amazing but pretty good for a 30k car.

Nope...I couldn't give a rats ***.

I'm just sick of hearing the same old tired 'it's not Audi, so it's crap' speech.

As a car enthusiast, I find good things in most cars...and just don't get the whole 'Audi is perfect' line...because they are far from it.

I do agree with you, but to be fair to the guy he didn't qualify his statement with "Audi's dashes are much better" or anything like that, and to be honest, even if he did, that's his opinion. This is an audi forum after all, you will get people who are devout to the brand.

well for me poor is a dashboard lacking quality and important information like a RPM gauge.... for instance.

I have an Audi, I like my car even though bored about it (but I guess it will happen with any car I have).

And like Ess Three getting a bit on my nerves some constant comments about Audi is better, rest is crap... I understand that in this case he probably meant poor in terms of plain design...

But guys, forgive me... latin blood in my veins sometimes I can be a bit edgy...lololol

Pedro

P.S.: Again I will have a "poor" V8 M3 even if it comes with "short pennis, mirrored sunglasses/bluetooth in ear-spaceman hands free kit" perceptions....lololol

To N8KOW, Try to forgive EssThree and the humongous chip on his shoulder.

He can't seem to grasp that This is the "Audi" forum, thus to a larger extent "pro Audi" (and why not)?

This old addage is fitting:

"Never argue with an idiot. They only drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience."

Agree, heater switches, while look nice on the A3, feel ****** terrible, like a 1980's computer mouse

I think the dash of my 530 looks plain, but the most important thing is that after living with the car for a couple of weeks you begin to realise that its functional to the 'enth degree. Everything is where it should be and is well thought out.

The dash should be pretty boring really, you should be looking at the road rather than concerning yourself with how your dashboard looks.

The BM dash is so simple and functional its only when you get into a less well-thought out car that the simplicity and sheer practicality seems to show itself.

Its quite clever making a premium dash, because very often you turn up in a glitzy showroom, get into the car, and because you are not on the road you tend to look at what you are getting for your money. Audi make the cars feel quite special inside (FBSW's, bucket seats, well finished). Just at a time when you are at your most vulnerable (wanting a new car), if they soak you in somewhere that initially feels really good, it increases their chance of you buying. If you get in a £30k+ car and think, I'm not being spoilt in here I guess you're more likely to walk away.

That's right...I have a chip on my shoulder.
Someone who is able to openly criticise his own cars..rather than believe that I own the bestest car in the whole wide world...and that by buying an Audi, I am somehow 'better' than other people who drive 'lesser' cars.

The real shame about this place is that it used to be a car enthusiasts forum where people who appreciate cars and happened to own an Audi chatted, and spent time (that was years ago...before the likes of you graced us with your words of wisdom)
...as opposed to where it's now heading...a place where people who have bought an Audi somehow believe they've arrived in life (and want a group ego massage by all the other blind fools who believe they are better than the rest because they have 4 rings on their silly shaped grille) spend time bigging themselves up.

I may have a chip on my shoulder about some things..but believe me, it's not regarding cars, as I, for one, am no bedge snob. I'd have thought a Fabia would have demonstrated that.

With regard to the dash being 'poor', I agree it's not the most imaginative or glitzy dash I've ever seen.
However, there are some really clever touches and qualities to it.
The climate knobs, for example, have a real quality feel to them, like a nice stereo.
Much better than the Audi's clicky buttons.
The rev counter automatically adjusts the red line when the car is cold, with the red line progressing around to it's normal position when the engine is warm.
The actual 'graphics' used are better too.
I never liked the 'font' used by Audi on the DIS or the radio, it reminded me of an old PC.
The BMW's font is much more modern.
I also like the way the BMW has a small heater knob that allows instant adjustment of temperature, without having to ****** about with the climate settings.
You leave the climate set, but you can instantly get the car colder or warmer in a split second.
That's a huge improvement on the Audi's climate, which was always very slow to react.

It seems to me, there's a lot of going round and round in circles here.
The straight fact of the matter is that both Audi and BMW make very high quality products and when you're paying a premium price you are going to be more picky over certain things. It also comes down to the company's design philosophy. Overall i prefer the interior feel and exterior lines of recent Audi models in comparison to beamers. I'm definitely not saying they're better cars though, i actually think they're very evenly matched. You pay your money and take your choice!
As far as interiors go...Audi's just suit my personal taste. Nice use of materials and textures and generally well design and put together. BMW's are 'generally' a little more sparse and unless you're paying a massive premium, are a little basic and cheap feeling, even thought construction wise they're every bit as good as an Audi. At the opposite end of the scale i've been in a number of high end Mercedes and they're just too much. Too much bling and shiny surfaces to the point where it's too floaty, excessive, old man-ish and generally lacks focus....And yet probably the best made interiors by any manufacturer.
So really, you can argue over person preference all day but...it is just that. Technically nothing between them as far as i'm concerned (other than diesel technology which i don't care about anyway).

I think its amusing that any thread concerning BMW on this forum always decends into an "mines better than yours" argument.

Its not a competition, just a guy letting us know how happy he is with his purchase.
Let him do that for ***** sake, if you don't like BMW's or people talking about non VAG vehicles or are generally an unhappy person then sod off somewhere else or enrich your life by listening to what others have to say in a non competitive way.

Haha, that is a sweet touch!

My friend also has that in his M3 I was well impressed. Boys and theyre toys eh

To be honest if someone gets massively defencive and wound up at the mere mention of another marque he probably has something about his own car choice playing on his conscience. I love my car, it's exactly what i need for now. But i have a deep itch for the new BMW m-sport coupe (with some breytons)....Which i intend to scratch in maybe 18 months time. Basically just because as much as i try i can't get excited about the A5.

The BMW site is still in its infancy, it takes time you see.
I did own and Audi so I still post here. I also still post (not as often mind) on the mkivsupra site and I haven't owned one of them for about 4 years
