Does anyone know if they do a decat for a 1.8se. Will a turbo decat fit? or will i have to go custom made? how much are they roughly?
Camshafts for a 1.8se Hydrolic or mechanical???? So many questions, wish i owned a turbo :( but finally, does anyone know anything about nos? wondering how much bhp increase i could get from a 1.8se...

any help is appreciated thanks.

A turbo decat is completely different sorry. You would need it done custom i would think as the cat is part of the frontpipe iirc. Cam follower adjustment is hydraulic, if its tapping it could be low oil pressure, sticky follower or even the cam chain adjuster.
As for NOS Billybravo could maybe help you there (where are you Craig?)

I've done it on mine. Car goes up the revs much quicker and the red line is now a few hundred revs later. Also get some really loud pops lol. I got my mate to make mine up out of the original cat. But i need to get a sports cat made up soon for the MOT.

Personally would say don't bother spending the money on a decat. A 1.8SE is never going to output any serious power (I own one myself) unless you get NOS etc.

Sort out your suspension and have fun getting the most out of the bhp you do have. Decent suspension/front and rear roll bars etc. The body roll on mine was awful.

Then have great fun on corners, country roads and roundabouts ;-)

plan is to go coil overs, decat, performance cams, then nos. Just squeezing everything i can outta the engine before it goes pop like the last one lol then i can find a turbo. by that time i think i can justify the 2.7 turbo lump :) plus i can then maybe insure it...
Anything else you guys recomend? anything like head work etc?

thanks for the replies so far!

i would just get the 1.8T in there mate its ur best bet bang for buck.

as for nitrous i can get most kits i run cold fusion and dyno tune kits on my car with a great outputs. you dont see as much gain on a N/A engine than u do a turbo lump.

if you need help on the nos front im your guy :)

I had a custom 200 sports cat fitted for £200 at a local Powerflow outlet. Like Jim said, you get a better response when revving and a higher rev limit. Although I've had mine chipped so there's no limiter on it ATM.

I certainly get more fun out of being able to go round corners and roundabouts quicker than trying to get more go out of it and I'm still on the old ARB.

It'll be interesting to see if NOS makes a difference though...

is yours a non turbo with a chip???? was it worth it? Nos is worrying me lol just spent the day watching youtube videos of engine explosions with nos :( but im still going to go for it. With the de cat is it that noticable? my mate had one on his saxo vtr years ago and said the revs fly through from 4k to limit in each gear... What does ARB mean? will keep u posted about nos, waiting for the cashflow atm.

ARB is anti roll bar. I uprated mine for a big fat eibach one and to be honest it wasn't worth it. I was already decked on coilovers so it didn't make any difference.

Have you got a cat-back exhaust? That and a de-cat will make a small difference. But as everyones said it's never gonna be a rocket.

Yep, '95 1.8SE with a chip. I'm quite good at spending money...

To be perfectly honest, yes and no as regards being worth it. It is smoother at delivering what power it's got (albeit not that much in the grand scheme of things!) but overall it doesn't make that much difference. I've actualy got a vid on youtube of the exhaust note just after I'd had the cat fitted :
