Wipers - Rest

It is a shame i never spec'd my car from new , coz the coming home lights , as part of the auto light/wipers is very useful! i had them on the Cupra , park up , key out, alarm on , and your lights are still on while your fiddling with your shopping/front door keys! great in the winter!
Can the coming home lights be turned on with VAG-COM?

Thanks

p

yeah, they are brilliant. Last car only worked the auto lights when you flicked the full beam stork, but these working on the key fob is great! Especially when getting in the garage safely at night! ;)

ok, tested on way home(though it wasn't raining!) and they do appear to slow down a level, from fast to slow, slow to intermittant etc

however if on slow, they appear to go to the slowest possible intermittant speed - 5-6 seconds between wipes

I can see the benefit but think its a bad feature, do auto wipers do the same?

Next time it's raining I'll see what mine do - shouldn't be too long a wait looking at the forecast for the week-end!

C'mon - you really complaining about having to move a finger?

Well yes I am. It's badly thought out. What is the point? Why have some sort of **** eyed fancy wiper system that actually involves more driver input than a £5k Kia? I don't want to think about the wipers, I want to drive the car.

A fair point :icon_thumright:

According to the current Owners Manual...

If you stop briefly, e.g. at traffic lights, the wiper speed will automatically be reduced by one level.

So I assume from that, if they are on max speed they will go to normal speed, normal speed to intermittent, intermittent to off. Not sure if that applies to all wipers or just auto-sensing wipers.

Personally I'm not a great fan of the auto-wipers, but I did want auto-lights, and the two go together. Auto-lights is very useful when the road has lots on tunnels, such as when I'm on holiday in parts of Germany and Austria and Switzerland where you are required by law to turn on your headlights in tunnels. Generally I'd be happy with just the normal intermittent.

Careful, in Austria it's compulsory to drive with dipped headlights in daylight!

Perhaps that's because you have auto wipers and I don't?

Mine aren't auto wipers and stop wiping when the car stops moving, or wasn't that clear?

Perhaps its a good sales feature from Audi

"if you don't want your wipers to stop wiping when your car stops moving, please give us some more money for auto wipers"

Man, this used to annoy me about the A3.
I have to turn right, across a dual carriageway, on the way home.
So the traffic I need to see is coming more or less straight at me, or at around an 11 o'clock position.
If it was raining, the ****** wipers would stop and I'd be left cursing and panic-whacking them onto full pelt.
It's just such a pointless 'feature'.
I mean, what does it save?
Wear and tear on wipers that you couldn't hope to measure?

I actually suspect my new car does this too, annoyingly enough.

Fair point with the wear and tear, they could measure the livespan savings in nano seconds

- Interestingly my mates 3 series tourer doesn't do this but he does have auto wipers
