uneven tyre wear help!

Guys just took my wheels off to attempt changing my front drop link, I failed miserably so it’s going into the garage! Anyway I noticed that the front passenger wheel is really badly worn on the inside of the tyre, so bad so that you can see the thread inside.

I’ve bought new rubber mounts and drop links for the front of the car because I was getting a weird grinding/rubbing noise on full lock, I’m guessing this is one of the reasons behind the uneven wear on the tyre.

I’m going to try order some new tyres from the internet, just wondered what could have caused this, heres a few pics.

had the same problem and have had a 4 wheel allignment done and no more uneven wear oh and changing the wheels from front to back every 4k has been recommended

Yeah mate, 4 wheel alignment is recommended, Is your car lowered? Check the rears too while your at it, the rears get bad. Adjustable tie bars are the answer.

Cars standard. Rears are fine. Just remembered i started getting the noise a short while after getting the pasenger side drop link changed, im sure this put the alignment on the suspension out. Ive oredered 2 my tyres from mytyres.com should be here soon, then gonna get the alignment done.

Anyone know the average price of getting 2 tyres fitted and 4 wheel alignment done?

Not sure what exact problem you were having with the drop link but you need to jack the whole of the front of the car up to change it. IF you only do one side, the ARB is in tension so you will never get the link out. If you lift both sides then there is no tension in the ARB and it is easy to swap.

lol thats probably why i couldnt do it, i only had one side off the ground, got 1 bolt off but the other wouldnt budge. Better get it done soon before the alignment or ill have the same problem all over again with my new tyres!!!

Alignment is about £65 + i think mate
As for tyres, most tyre fitters would do them for a tenner cash ;o)

ive got my new tyres and had them fitted for £20 at a local garage. Problem is its rubbing and i havent got round to getting the alignment done yet. Kwikfit said they can do the tracking on the fronts for 27 quid? is that the same as alinment?

anyone recommend a decent garage in dartford to get the alignment done?

I had somthing very simular. Be carefull and keep an eye on it or you will have a blow out on the A303 and have to drive home doing 50km with a space saver like some d!ck i know......*whistles and walks away*

I have Had 4 Wheel Laser alignment with squaddie discount i got it for 80 quid. Well worth it i think, Car feels like new on teh road now.

Fooking hell - don't let kwikfit near it. You need to find somewhere with the correct equipment for 4 wheel alignment.

there's Bexley Motor Works (http://www.bmsport.com/) which specialises in BMW tuning. I booked my car to get the 4 wheel alignment done..but had to change a ball joint, so never got it done. They are £100+vat which is expensive. But all is included

Your main dealer should have the latest and very good alignment equipment, worth a phone call, could be expensive though.
Make sure you get 4wheel alignment, dont let the kwik-**** monkeys loose on your car!

just had to replace my front tyres on my S3 due to inner tyre wear. I was told this could of been caused by slight play in the front wheels due to the knackered wish bone rubbers. Changed the rubbers, fitted new tyres and got it re-tracked, fingers crossed its now rectified..

just had the alignment done...well worth it. all set and car handles and feels much much better to drive now

Seems better, fingers crossed my tyres wont wear out as bad as they did before.

oh and just found out i need two new tyres on the rear.....GREAT!

are you sure? I had mine done last thursday at JD automotive for £82 all included.
