I sold my beloved GTi 1.8T in January and decided to buy a luxury sedan.

I checked the BMW 330i, Volvo S40 T4 and the Audi A4

Here in Guatemala you don't see too many A4's, so I decided to buy it.

After only 6 months of owning the car, I've had these problems:

- 1 month: seatbelt at the was loose and making a lot of noise
- 2 months: front left engine of seat broken
- 3 months: front left speaker broken
- 4 months: front right engine of seat broken, too
- 6 months: front left window making a lot of noise - maybe also going to fail !

Audi is doing as much as they can to be at the same level of MB and BMW, but they are years of light behind. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

All these parts are going to be replaced under warranty, but I really tell you this:

DON'T BUY AN AUDI -- THEY STILL HAVE A LOT OF SERIOUS QUALITY ISSUES TO SOLVE /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/idea.gif

THE CAR IS CRAP; don't be a fool like myself and invest well your hard earned money.

I hope I do not offend anyone, but Audi is really crap /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/fuck_you.gif

A4lover, yeah I think on an Audi forum you're generally talking to people who have already spent their hard earned cash on an Audi. So they are either happy with the quality or have already been unlucky and bought a Friday afternoon car (a bad example). I don't think you can make sweeping generalisations on a singl purchase. If it's all being done under warranty, what's your beef? I wouldn't class a faulty door speaker as a mission critical failure anyway. I'm assuming that the car is secondhand, so you can't really point the finger at Audi's build quality when you don't know the car's history. Wind yer neck in.

My friend has just taken delivery of a BMW 330Ci and I think that it's perceived build quality is noticably below my 2004 Audi A4 1.8T Sport. The doors on the BMW don't shut with the meaty "thunk" of the Audi but feel light and rattly.

Agree completely owning both currently, the Audi is definately better built and having listened to drivers which have gone from Beemers to Audi's they all say the same, especially about the A4.

A4lover your issues were extremely minor and all done under warranty, so apart from a bit of inconvienience I don't see what your problem is.....your situation may not of been any different if you had bought a BMW/Volvo/merc whatever.

You must be having a laugh friend of mine only just picked up his new BMW 325I conv a month ago and he was diappointed when i showed my new A4 Cab 1.8T (as i kept it quiet /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif) to the build quality of the new A4.

He was even more gutted when i told him the price which included CVT (which he even even more gutted).

As you can tell he was quite gutted and wished that he had listerned to me when i told him to get one instead of the BMW, regardless BMW is a great car and not putting it down in any way but pound for pound the A4 was better value.

As for reliability we will see but then that what warranty is for.

I must admit I'm pretty happy with the interior build quality on my S4 it's certainly a bit better than my B5 RS4 and the stereo system is far far better.

I purchased a 2002 reg Audi A4 1.8T brand new and have to say that I am utterley impressed with the car, build quality and service Audi provides. I have had one problem with the oil temperature sensor whic was replaced under warranty by my dealer within 3 days of reporting the fault. I believe that you are just as likely to encounter problems like this on all marques especially BMW. Why do people think BMW's are so superb. After working on BMW's in a bodyshop for the last 4 years I can assure you they are not perfect!

Just found this post and it made me giggle a little.

A4lover, wot a complete and utter load of ********, take yourself into a dark room, give yourself a slap and have a word with yourself.
M. U. P. P. E. T.!!!!!:wtf::superman:

6 posts in 5yrs....impressive!!!

So glad you keep your gob shut most times, dont understand your point.
Freedom of speech and all that but why come on an Audi Forum telling Audi owners not to buy an Audi,hmmm...:whistle2:

You need one of my mrs's bitch slaps!:drag:

wonder what he would be like if his engine failed like j7uss,s

a4lover, your a dumbass!

As has been said we've all got Audi's, too late to warn us off!

Please feel free to trade your car in for a 3 series and join a BMW forum, BTW they are rear wheel drive so don't be too annoyed when you find it's crap in the snow.

Shouldn't be something you'd need to worry about in your part of the world but it would be a good excuse to state every beemer was rubbish and then go onto your aquaintances on the BMW forum and ruffle all their feather...lol

im with A4Lover............every single one of your A4s are *****, apart from mine :)

I cant remember the last time i saw snow.
I would still prefer a proper balanced rwd to 4wd or fwd though, more fun.:yahoo:

After owing a brand new BMW and now owing an A4 in my opinion theres no comparisson. The BMW was a good car dont get me wrong but it didnt feel like it was worth the 28 grand it cost, my A4 on the other hand oozes quality. Each to their own I guess but to come on an Audi forum and say "dont buy an Audi they're crap" you would be as well to provide the rotten tomato's :haha:

That was posted in 2003.
If you do live where you are lucky enough to see snow there is always a 335xi,dont look bad in the snow.

James its sooooo obvious you jumped ship right now, defending the brand to the death there:anbet:. Ive owned both and i know which is better:whistle2:.LOL

Me too and its not the one with 4 rings, but some people just want to believe that the their car is the best when its not.:noway:

I think this is down to the actual car you bought, not audi's in general, i have had 3 now and have never had any problems..!!

Sounds like the car you bought was abused and not looked after very well....

hehe why come on here to slag off audis?! Seems a bit darft! Anyways mines ok Im just ****** off with chocolate suspension bushes - but then most new cars suffer from this problem nowadays so theres little difference between the makers.
Happy with the quality overall.
Tyre wear is a bit extreme but reckon thats my fault loL!
Anyway, going out for a spin now.

If you call swinging the back end out onto the opposite side of the road and hitting the car/bike/WHY coming the other way "fun", then I don't want to be within 100 miles of you...

Quattro is "fun" too - because when everyone else is pussyfooting in the rain, snow, etc you just keep your foot in and get home on time!

So Audi's and the A4's are crap, The car i've loved driving every single second and never had a problem....wished he'd said before i'd have brought a French model :puke2:

Leave off the French motors though ;)

You must be thinking of very old bmw's,all the new ones are very stable. You can get the back end out when you want which is what i call fun.

So Quattro is only fun in the rain and snow then?Better park it up if its dry.

I feel in a position to comment on this as I have owned in the last 10 years 1 2003 Mercedes C Class Coupe, 1 2004 E55 AMG, 2 BMW M3's E36 and 1 E46 M3...before buying my Audi A4 TDI.

The Audi is not as good as the BMW to drive apart from the manual shift which is way ahead of BMW. Build quality is about the same in my opinion with BMW getting worse over the past few years. Audi takes it for dealer services where I feel Audi is way above the rest.

Notice I haven't mentioned Mercedes in this. The reason for that is they are a pile of schite. The build quality is poor, the drive is boring even the AMG albeit hugely fast was like a barge going round corners, the service and dealers are the worst by a long long way. In fact I will NEVER buy another Merc, not ever.

So it's a toss up between Audi and BMW, I so love the manual gearbox in the Audi and it's nice handling that I'd be hard pushed between that and a Beemer. If it was between the RS4 and the new M3 my heart would go with the M3. The old ones were so good to drive, manual gearbox aside.

Quattros are just great, BMW's are generally a far inferior product both in terms of quality handling and image! Only place they score is the lower CO2 figures due to stop - start - fart technology.:respekt:

My wife has a BMW 320d and I have a Audi A4 1.9Tdi, now the BMW is quicker BUT a lot heavier to drive, the Audi is lighter and generally a nicer drive all round IMO, the driving position is better and the cabin feels more user friendly all round.

i had 3x 3 series before this audi, a 98 323i, a 99 M3 evo, and an 03 e46 M3, my 54 plate audi is miles better put together than any of those 3, i also have to say the e46 was a complete pile of ***** build quality wise compared to the e36 m3, sorry james but your just supporting bmw cos you own one and thats it, if you bought a ford focus that would then be the best made motor since sliced bread!!! sorry but bmw got complacent and took there foot off the build quality pedal, just as audi hit top gear and sailed past.............:asskicking: And as for the 'it must have been the old ones', BMW are progressively going backwards with build quality, they peaked with the e36, thought they had the market sussed and then went to ***** with the e46.....anon...:keule:

mines alright!

If you live in Guatemala, why don't you get a 4x4 or a tank? it should help with the big pot holes :)

sorry james but your just supporting bmw cos you own one and thats it
WRONG,Just goes to show how little you know,i dont own a bmw.
I did and i owned an Audi and yes build quality is good on both cars but thats about it for me,handeling, performance and overall fun factor the bmw was loads better.
The only reason i brought a bmw was i borrowed my mates 330ci to go and test drive an S3,but the bmw was sooo good next to that i spent my money on a 330ci and never regretted it for a second.

I know the A4 isnt crap but i also know its not the best.

Who is talking build quality,if you learn to read you will see that comment was at swinging the tail out, which was a little too easy on the decent engined e30 models.

if you bought a ford focus that would then be the best made motor since sliced bread!!! :

Actually most of my miles are done in a Merc S500 but you wont hear me me saying that is any good, apart from straight line speed that is.

Have i got you all wound up James, also if you would learn to read for one moment, this thread is about build quality, not stepping the **** out!!! Anyhow thats enough friendly bitching between me and James, im happy with my motor and thats all that matters to me..and it satisfies me that every time i drive past a BMW owner i know he's been mugged, shoulda-coulda-woulda but didnt and bought a badge, sorry a BM..:jester:

Have i got you all wound up James
No where near.:nyah:

It was nearly 5 years ago, then along came this load of crap...

If you call swinging the back end out onto the opposite side of the road and hitting the car/bike/WHY coming the other way "fun", then I don't want to be within 100 miles of you...

Exageration or what.
