What is the specs of the DRLs in the S3? H1 or H7 etc? I want to replace mine with white/blue spec lights (Philips or Osram or the like) because the current yellow looks very off against the white of the bi-Xenons

Also, noticed in my car manual that in some countries the S3 comes with a fire extinguisher in the passenger footwell, does anyone here actually have one fitted? Or have one in the car as a spare?

The DRL bulbs in Bi-Xenon headlamps are not halogen bulbs. The are normal 21w bulbs the same as used in brake lights etc.

Do a search on this forum for Daytime Running Lights and it should turn up some posts where members have found some ordinary 21w bulbs that are more white/blue in colour than the standard bulbs.

I don't have xenons on my A3 but i still want to replace all the bulbs to make them whiter and brighter. So for standard non-xenon units...what bulb codes am i looking for?! H7's for the main headlights? I admit i don't really have clue!

redbutcher have you come across anyother bulbs for the DRL's for the A3/S3 yet that shine white , but don't look blue when off?

Cheers mate

Yes mate, dip and main beam are both H7s in the A3.

Super...Thanks for that, appreciated!
I've heard the Philips Extreme H7's are good...and not blue when off apparently?

Sorry... thats 'X-treme' apparently. And i can confirm they're not blue when off.

^^^^^Cheers mate i'll have a look at them.

Auto Express rate them as one of if not the best replacement bulbs on the market, and they're totally clear lenses so can't be bad. 80% more light and a LOT whiter than standard halogens. All the reviews i've read say they're the closest thing to HID you can get. Needless to say i'll be installing some asap!

Hmm - not sure you'll be able to get the Philips bulbs for DRLs though - I can only find them for H7/H4 fitment....

What Dave said P

They are a 382 bayonet 21 watt fitting - aka P21W I think. I've just found some Philips Vision Plus bulbs that might do the trick. Have a look here. They don't have the blue tint to them and they look like the same fitment as the DRLs.

Apologies, i didn't realise it was a different fitting! Philips do some brilliant non-tinted bulbs though.

No worries. Agree with you on the Philips bulbs - used to have them in my 99 Passat - much better than stock.

On the PIAA front, does anybody know if there is any difference (aside from their 21 or 27W rating) on these, specially as the normal DRLs are 21W?

Only difference is the wattage rating on those (as you pointed out). I'd stick to 21w though as the original DRLs are 21w.

Thanks Jon.

Only asked because I notice a lot of peeps fit the 27s... Have to say though, not keen on the blue reflection when they are off, kinda looks a bit Halfords/chavvy (sorry!)!

Interesting they call the 21W "sports" though!

:) - LOL - it's a trade off unfortunately - a blue tint to the bulb for a whiter light. I have come across some Philips Vision Plus bulbs (see further up the thread) that might do the job and they don't have the blue tint - not sure how 'white' the light produced by them will be though.

Yes, guess so. Not sure the Philips bulbs produce "whiter" light as the blurb seems to go on about them being brighter and reacting faster to actually light up.

Philips have developed a way to make the bulb shell smaller and burn the filament a LOT hotter so it naturally gives a whiter light...Makes sense really and performance wise they are better than any other halogen. Anyway...even if it isn't quite as white as the blue bulbs, more people see your car in the day than at night so it's not a bad trade-off.

In Poland it's obligatory to have fire extinguisher fitted in to your car.
I'm a member of polish Audi A3 forum so if you got any questions than just ask and I`ll find out for you.:sm4:
