Servicing Reminder - DIS removal

I am abouts to get my Audi A3 (32,000 mile) serviced at my local garage. They are charging approx £120 incl VAT and parts. All authentic audi oils etc.
Anyone know how to get rid of the SERVICE reminder on startup on the DIS?
Does it need to be VAG commed?
No way im paying £290+VAT for a filter change and oils.

I believe VAG commed.... Would't you loose the warranty rights if you service elsewhere from Audi dealers... I assume it is a new car and less than 2 year old...

If you pull out the mileage reset button in the cluster and hold it out for about 10 seconds it will reset the service indicator - says so in the manual.

Your warranty is no longer invalidated by getting the service done at a non-audi workshop as long as any parts used are genuine audi ones as far as I know. Isn't that some new european directive?

I think this should only be done if you are on fixed (i.e. not longlife) servicing. Think the manual says if you reset it this way yourself it takes the car off longlife and puts it back onto yearly servicing. Check the manual first just in case.

Yes, but presumably if you are not getting the car services at an Audi workshop, you are no longer on longlife servicing?

Correct

Providing the car is services to the manufacturers schedule and providing manufacturer approved parts are used the manufacturer cannot void the warranty

However I've never actually tried this, getting things fixed under warranty has proved very difficult for me, I would imagine my dealer would love another excuse to back out of having to perform any work on the car

I know a guy who got his Ford serviced in a Vauxhall garage as it was 25% cheaper. When he went back to Ford for some warranty work they tried to say that he had invalidated it by using a non-Ford garage and after some arguing with Ford HQ they agreed that the warranty was non invalidated.

IMO, a main dealer wouldn't dare try and back out of warranty work on a car that has been serviced properly by someone else.
It's such a 'hot potato', I seriously doubt they'd even mention it.
This sort of 'fear factor' used to be banded about for imported cars.
I had an imported Alfa 156, and I fully expected hassle from the main dealer.
In reality, they treated me just as well as if I'd bought it from them.
Honestly, I just don't believe it's worth the potential grief to them.
There are so many people (press, trading standards etc.) willing to jump on them, it would just be silly for them to even try.
If my Audi hadn't been a company car, I would have deliberately gone to a local independent specialist instead, and woe betide the main dealer giving me any grief on warranty work.

I am well aware that the correct Audi Parts need to be used.
The gearbox in my A4 went funny and as the last person to service it hadnt used correct audi oils. So they wouldnt cover it under warranty. However that Gearbox was recalled by Audi and we werent told about it. lol long story short. We had to go 50-50.

Take your point but this is Audi we're talking about - the same company that said there was nothing wrong with your wheel bearing.........................

I recently got my car serviced at a non-audi dealership. Warranty still intack. However the service indicator is still on. I tried pulling it out for 10 seconds and didnt go away...

Any Ideas??

The last time I checked the manual was in my MY04 A3. Just been out to check the manual in my MY07 one and it looks like they've changed the procedure. Presumably because people kept resetting the service interval by accident when trying to reset the odometer!

The new procedure is listed on page 15 of the manual.

1) Turn ignition on until spanner appears on display (only appears if your car's service interval has expired)
2) pull out on the right hand knob thingy and release (the one for resetting the miles) - the car is now in service reset mode
3) pull out on the right hand knob thingy (sorry about the confusing technical jargon!) for about 5 seconds until ------ appears somewhere. The service interval is now reset to 15000 miles.

If you were previously on a long-life service schedule you will now be on fixed 15,000 mile intervals. However, if you are not getting serviced at a main dealer then you probably cannot avail of the long-life service anyway.
