2 things i didnt spec thinking i could fit later:

RNS-e = £635
Cruise = £225

Both prices quoted from http://www.vwcruise.com/4.html

These prices seem cheap, especially since the ebay prices for a lithunanian RNS-e has seen a rise from around £450 to £650 +!!

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Sounds alrite, Gareth is a good guy, knows his stuff. Might as well get it done, cruise is lovely on the motorway and the RNS-E COMPLETES the dash imo....

But is ***** when compared to a tomtom!!!

On my 335 I had to spec nav, because you have to on a £43k car, so that resale doesnt suffer - But it was total crap, leaps and bounds behind any of the portable units available

I havent spec'd it on the S3, because it is not a necessary option on a £27k car, and I certainly wouldn't get it just to complete the dash.

Each to their own as always though

However, if I did want it, I would definately fit it aftermarket - such a massive saving

OT, When do you get your car?

Mine was build week 10 - last week - and I should be getting mine in a couple of weeks.

I disagree. My Tom Tom is absolute *****, always have to carry, out of date, leaves a big sticky on the windscreen, just looks crap. I'm over the moon with my RNS-E, plus it shows the audi rings when u drive past a dealer :haha:

Oh well.....Looks like we'll agree to disagree again.......Oh and im so gutted my tomtom doesnt have an Audi sign when I drive past an Audi garage - what a great feature!!!!NOT:wtf:

And yes, it does look better than a tomtom, but not £2000 better - You can also get brodit brackets etc, to hard wire your portable's

Enjoy your nav - and as I said earlier each to their own

What is so crap about the RNS-E, or the BMW one for that matter? I had the MFD2 in my old Golf and I can understand someone saying that was crap (in terms of the graphics), but even then it got me where I needed to go, and did make the interior of the car nicer. From what I've seen the Audi and Bmw units have perspective view, and on the one the BMW one you can add Speed cameras. So what's so much better about a Tom Tom? That's a genuine question not trying to argue BTW. I've got Tom Tom 3 on my old PDA and that's nothing special, but I guess a bit out of date..

That was a JOKE oli, I can see your sense of humour bypass went well. Indeed, I like the RNS-E, you don't, case closed..:icon_thumright:

My £2000!! BMW pro nav;

Cons
Very slow - ****** Idrive
5 figure postcode search
Speed camera's not an option, unless you burnt your own disc
Very wierd route's given
very expensive

Pro's

resale of the car better with it
looked good in the dash
re-routing around roadworks/crashes etc - This can be done with a tomtom
And all the other bonus's with the I drive

Hope that helps

Some people just dont like the cluttered look of a portable - which is understandable, but after having the BMW for eight months, Ill gladly go back to my tomtom, as its so much easier to use, faster, and doesnt cost a fortune. And my tomtom is about three years old - but I will probaly be buying one of the slimline models that tomtom now make.

No need to say it twice:)

Car is at the dealership. Delivery on Friday.

Im working away most of this week so hanging on till then, then off to the lakes for a few days :yahoo:

I dont think the main benefit of the RNS-E is the NatNav, although it is really handy having it at a touch of a button, with no brackets, wires or other inconvinience.

The best thing about the RNS-E is the integration with everything else in the car. Telephone, MP3 card slots, Radio, CD and TV. I havent seen a 3rd party device come close to doing any of this.

There's one other major plus the RNS-E has over portable devices: it's much less likely to get nicked. I've seen Tom Tom in action several times and they work very well, especially with the POI feature the RNS-E misses out on. But the fact owners have to mess about plugging it in with wires all over the cabin, and then keep a "special Tom Tom cloth" (as one of my mates calls it) in the car to wipe the front screen clean to remove the sucker marks from potential thieves would drive me mad. Agree with N8KOW though - each to their own :)

My spec is;

Ibis White
Black Optics Pack
Privacy Glass
BOSE
Black/Red Leather
Cruise
Sunband
Reversible Boot Mat
Electric Lumber Support
Phone Prep in Armrest
Interior Light Pack
PDC
Auto Lights and Wipers
Flat Tyre Warning Indicator
No Smoking Pack
Flat Bottom MFSW

Im looking forward to it yes, but already thinking about my next car!!!!

There is a reason

Im in the trade, so have a constant torrent of new cars to drive, which gets very tempting!! Over the past few years the longest Ive owned a car is just under 8 months!!! - I get bored very quickly - which is poor, I agree. I have a new Clio 197 at the moment on loan from renault, and I think this is possibly the best hot hatch Ive ever driven - if you havent driven one, give it a go - It will amaze you how focused it is - and before you all say it, yesits not an Audi, poor build quality etc, but it is only £15k which is great VFM.

The reason I said thinking about my next car is, that my wife and I have decided to have another baby next year, and have two already, so will need a bigger car - So am thinking RS4, which I dont think will be a bad move.

My cousin has one, I used to have a 172.

197 + points

a) solid build quality in comparison with the old one, light years ahead.
b) alot classier, bigger inside, comfortable to drive, more grown up

197 - points

a) slower than 172
b) heavier
c) nowhere near as fine to drive
d) sounds like a vacuum cleaner
e) no va va voom in the power range, feels "static"

I didn't spec Sat Nav on mine because I thought 1)I would not really need it; 2) Too much money for a toy that I would only use twice a month if that...

Now, I wish I had it!! Moved to a big city and I think Sat Nav is great for city driving.... (for big trips to europe I prefer a proper map... more exciting)

Maybe I will get a portable sat nav... but I won't stick it to the windscreen... just following the spoken directions should be fine...

Consider it several times... even exchanged some e-mails with Craig it was around £800 completely fitted I think but worth the little extra for a prime installation

... but at the moment I don't know if I am going to keep the S3... I either buy a hatch diesel and keep it or buy a fast diesel and exchange it... not made my mind yet... but a 330D coupe or a 335D might be the way to go if I decide to exchange it... To be honest start to find the S3 a bit boring... is fast but maybe I am so used to it that it "does not feel fast anymore"...

Hehe yep always gives me and my gf a laugh! Because you just NEED to know where your nearest Audi dealer is at all times.
