My S3 (2001) has an intermittent problem with ESP/ABS. Looking through the forum, it appears likely that the culprit is the Yaw sensor (1J0 907 657A). I've taken off the lower dashboard on both sides, but I cannot find the damn thing! Anyone know where it is?
MarkyB has one for sale, so at least I know where to get one once I can find it :)

you sure its not the brake switch?

Hi,

your best bet is to buy/borrow a VAGCOM and check which sensor is faulty, as there are couple of sensors that can cause the EPS/ABS warning light to come on.

Here a couple of posts that may help

Diagnostic tools off ebay [Buying a cheap VAGCOM, you'll need your own laptop!]

[Replacing the] Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor (G251)

* this is not the part that I have in the ForSale section, which is a YAW Sensor.

Cheers,

Mark.

If it was, what would be the symptoms?

For me, the ESP and ABS lights come on at start from cold, and after about 10/15 mins, if I stop/start, they go out and stay out - occasionally come back on on bumpy roads, and the only way to clear them is to switch the ignition off/on. When the lights are on, you can spin the wheels in first and lock them under braking.

Just managed to find the offending item (Thanks HTC) and get it out.

I'm lucky that I've got access to another A3 that I can swap parts with, but no VAGCOM. So, I'll try both of these sensors and see what's what.
The power of t'internet - magic :)
