Worst single car modification/addition

You must like re-building transmissions :p

Everyone I know who's had one has had to re-build the gearboxe or transfer box...some many times over.

Shame, as they seem to be a real weakpoint on an otherwise interesting car.

Its a myth that they're a weakpoint, unless they're put under real stress (tuned and screwed) they don't break, as with all gearboxes in general.

Only thing thats gone wrong in its 14 years is a clutch and starter motor. Not bad for a car 5.3ish sixty time

It must be a myth that has crippled 5 of my mates then...
One was always changing one or the other...although I suspect abuse was the cause!

lol @ contradiction

i'd image it was the abuse to cripple five, LIke i said. Cant imagine a company producing cars with weak gearboxes on standard power tithout correcting it at some point.

Maybe a contradiction...
But those of them that have moved onto STIs or Evos aren't changing transmissions at the same rate!
So something must be stronger!

You are doing well, must be something to do with 'looking after it', I've seen two GTiR's recently with knackered bottom ends, dinging away on idle. :sadlike:

evo's and sti were developed more recently than pulsars/sunnys, which were first introduced in 1989/90, so i'd expect that.

I agree that my car is nursed.

In some respects if you tune and/or screw your car you'd expect problems. I've read enough problems on this forum about gearboxes breaking. The percentage of gearbox failures on pulsars is due to the fact that 90 or so percent are highly tuned and unless a dog box or quaife gear set is fitted there are inevitably going to be a number of failures. The parts are well out outside their 1990 design parameters

I totally agree...but finding a standard GTiR is hard...and once you've bought it...the re-build costs are yours!

Couldn't agree more as all cars without a warranty have certain risks with buying:friends:
Nice little chat that was

Ermm I remember a workmate telling me about Rovers head gaskets going at 40k on the 25 model,my mate bought a brand new one against my advice and his gasket went at 10k! so I think the manufacturers aren't very clever

Now, rover engines, their something else. MGF, 25,45, and freelander had huge problems with head gaskets

All the same K series engine thats why

Lotus use those engines, do they have the same problems then?
probably more likely the owners are the types that don't care about the engines!

See loads of these, really does look crap.See quite a few RS or S badged Audis too which obviously arent.:asskicking:

I must admit to the badge thing but it was on it when I got the car and cause of the yellow paint I'm not taking it off till the car goes to get touched up!!:slap:

Oh the sounder you can buy that makes and atmospheric dump valve noise!!!!

Some of the elise's had problems with the K series engine too.

I 'think' lotus had done some work on the engine to try and strengthen it a bit. Apparently there are replacement parts that stop it from blowing the HG all the time.

Stupid thing i've seen a few times is to have your bonnet sprayed black pretending its carbon fibre!! Everyone who's got 1/2 a brain cell would realise no one would be so stupid as to bother making a carbon fibre bonnet for a Saxo etc!!

Lexus lights
Lambo doors

On the GTi R thing I have had two friends with them one drove like a tart and the car was always in bits with something wrong with it. The other drove like a ****, failed to maintain it and it never put a foot wrong. Some cars are just a bit of a Lemon, must have been a Friday afternoon car.

Why do people do it? Audis generally look great in Standard spec in my opinion. What do others think?

Got to be lexus lights for me, saw a Boxster with them yesterday ***.

On the k series, iirc both the head and gasket were improved about 6-7 years ago. LR replaced the head on our Freelander as a warranty job, which was nice.

Here's a couple of classics from Aberdeen:

Followed this one out past Kingswells many times, caught on the moby one night. The off roading ride height was particularly impressive.

And this was spotted at Makro. He had his name on the number plates.. must have been a dare.

A few years ago i had a tuned Renaultsport Clio 182 , i pulled behind a Clio 1.2 at the lights , he had stuck a SPORT badge under the Clio badge on the drivers side, with nothing on the passenger side! it should be Renaulsport passenger side Clio drivers!

I could see his worried face looking at me in his rear view! LOL

excellent spot, love the cross-eyed exhaust tailpipes.

RS wheels on an Audi that isn't.

Is there a TT on the road without them???

It actually looks like it's been parked too close to a fire....

if there were such a thing as a Bionic Dolphin with wheels, thats it.

Took me about 5 minutes to decide it was originally a Calibra...

Cheers
