Hi guys, happy new year.

My current dilemma is the s3 has failed its MOT due to headlight level too low. The adjusters have snapped off so can't manually move them.

The auto level doesn't work (never has to my knowledge), so I'm not sure what to do as the level has always been ok.

Will it be cheaper to replace the auto level parts or to get on the group buy band wagon for some new lights?

Any help would be appreciated

Depends, are your level sensors in the arch ways intact? I got both adjusters for the headlights for £40 new and a 2nd hand sensor for the front wheel arch for 30ish even with the group buy headlights you will need to replace the auto adjust motors if they are broken or risk another fail as they don’t come with the lights

Mine failed an MOT with the same problem a long time ago, bought a new adjuster and it still didn't solve the problem. Apparently something inside the headlight had snapped off so the adjuster was working correctly but it still couldn't do it's job. Ended up having to replace the complete headlight unit in the end. My first port of call would be to check the level sensors are working properly before buying new adjusters, if they are then move onto the adjusters, if they are ok then you could have the same problem I had.

When you do it if you hear a buzzing and lights don’t move either the arm of your motor has snapped or the part of the headlight the adjust goes to is broke which case you would have to strip motor from light do it again and have some one see if the arm moves

Are you sure they adjusting the right one I had to remove some of the plastic trim to get to the adjuster on mine I was doing the side light not main been

Ok so drivers side motor seems to be working ok. The adjustment screws for the lateral movement are ok on both (the one closest to wings) only the passenger side height adjustment cog has snapped along with the thread flush with the plastic.

As the others turn easy I might try to drill and tap and put a bolt in it or something to try to turn it manually.

Any other ideas?

Which one do I need to fix if the up and down is stuffed?

Yes.

I figured it out with Trups... one of the plastic adjusters are worn. He’s looking into a replacement part *fingers crossed*

I’m sure he’ll come through for you mate, like you’ve said in the past.....his customer service is second to none.

That spare parts bin got me a screw with built in washer that was missing from one of my old headlights! It's like an Aladdin's cave of headlight bits.
