What is this and what its purpose?

Hi guys,

Can someone give me an idea what this is, and what is its purpose? Under and 8p S3. This particular pic off the interwebs.

It's the unused rear battery box.

If you look in the boot under the spare wheel and it's casing you'll find it.

Some of us(myself included) had used it for siting a water/meth pump or other things.

If you have a 3.2 its not an unused battery box...its THE battery box

Or four cylinder engine with double battery system for cold climate and fuel powered engine heaters.
