Afternoon people, new person potentially old question(apologies),....pick my new S3 up on the 1st of september and I've already been offered about £50,000 worth of various insurance packages wondering if anyone took any of the attached out and if they were worth while or any good?

Any information would be much appreciated

Welcome to the forum mate! I never got offered anything when I got my car!! Hadn't even heard of the scratch & dent cover either!! The alloy insurance looks good & may pay for itself over time.

The only one useful really is Tyre Insurance but read the small print for maximum payout and wheel sizes covered.

Damage repair is useless, that's what they do.. turn up and paint an area up to 30cm in size (awful repairs).

Alloy wheel insurance can be ok, but there is a thread on here where the repairer used silver paint to cover the diamond cut finish in one part of the wheel!!! They also rarely cover diamond cut wheels.

Don't go for auto glym, use a proper detailer as the valeters on site aren't worth bothering with! Pick the car up without having it washed to minimise damage and have a detailer do it for the same money.

Four rubber mats are £50 ish? Boot liner is £60-£80? Pack is a bit of a rip off.

Thanks for that advise appreciate it!

Yea I've got it booked in for an initial detail for half the price of the auto glym.

Also found gap insurance cheaper than they quoted, Audi tried selling me over £1800 worth of 'add-ons' madness really!

I was wondering how they'd repair the Diamond cut alloys.

the wait is on 11 days until i can collect the car :grin:

Paint protection a waste of time. Used to be GuardX, now Autoglym. Never applied properly and always wears of after a couple of weeks.

Alloy / Tyre insurance worth considering subject to checking the exclusions in the policy.

Not a fan of many of these add on things but have taken some as they were thrown in as part of the deal or heavily discounted.

No problem at all, I normally automatically opt out of anything! I told my dealer in advance of ordering the RS3, I don't want any packages so don't build any into the price.

The Auto Glym is an OK-ish product, but when applied properly! At my local dealer they pay the valeters £3 to wash a car. They pay them £28 to apply Life Shine, they tell you they take 2 days to apply it. For workers on a price, do you think they take 2 days applying for £28? 2 hours more like!

Audi always rip you off for GAP! Should be fixed at £500 nationwide, heard of people on here paying £700+!! First time I had it, it was discounted but the second time they said that it is an insurance product and by law can't be discounted as everyone has to be charged fairly! I hear of people on here getting it discounted, very naughty of the dealers because they aren't allowed anymore. ALA Gap is the best out there according to reviews and most of us on here use them. Very reasonable pricing! Always remember, when you PX a car in you can get a refund on your GAP, you only pay for what you have used.

Most of these insurance policies say they won't cover diamond cut wheels, your dealer won't tell you that! My dealer charges £150 or so for a diamond cut wheel (I don't use them if I ever have them done), insurance policies won't pay for that. But yes there is a thread on here with an RS3 wheel, the smart repairers came out and they masked up and literally used spray paint over the top of the polished finish on a couple of inches on the wheel, unbelievable!!

11 days will soon go by, keep yourself busy! Pictures when you get it please.

The alloy insurance is decent. Just make sure it covers diamond cut, as some dealers don't.

As for the repair, I just argued that the damage was too extensive for a smart repair, so you get £110 towards a full repair anywhere you want to go. The repair was £126 so was happy to only pay £16....!

Smart repair and alloy wheel are defo the ones to go for! Both pay back its worth over the time, defo the alloy wheel insurance. Diamond cut alloy is included for same price (Milton Keynes Audi anyway).

I've had it discounted and even "free" on recent cars but in reality all the dealer will do is put it through as extra discount on the car and make it look like you've paid full whack for the products I suppose.

Tyre insurance was worth it for me - 2 punctures from pot holes in 10,000 miles on my RS3.

Agreed. There are always proper A3 rubber mats on eBay, and perfectly serviceable boot liners on Amazon for round about forty quid.

I managed to pick up a full set of genuine mats - barely used - for £25, and a boot liner from Amazon's Warehouse specials (or whatever it's called) for thirty.

A boot liner is a practical thing rather than an aesthetic one, so as long as it protects the carpets I'm not desperately fussed what it looks like.

If you're prepared to bide your time on Amazon, there are some corking Warehouse deals for stuff with damaged packaging. I picked up a set of specific-fit Montblanc roofbars to go on the roof rails of my Sportback for £27, and all that was wrong with them was that the box had been smushed and taped up. They're over £150 normally.

Likewise, over the years, Brembo pads and discs for an 8P, an allroad and a Fiat 500, TRW allroad suspension arms, various OEM-equivalent air and pollen filters - loads of stuff.

All it needs is a little bit of forward planning and some patience.

Thanks for all of that,

reading into the tyre insurance further, wear isn't covered but accidental damage and punctures are, potentially have and accidental puncture on all 4 tyres after about 10,000 miles :smirk:

I have the tire and alloy just because I thought be silly not to a £5 a month.

My salesman told me not to take the Michael with tyre insurance as he knows of people puncture all 4 when almost ready for a change and try to claim, surprisingly the insurers didn't pay out...

I think it's worth having especially the condition of roads these days.

I'm considering it and I never consider these things, tyre only though.

Only because I ended up replacing all 4 tyres a couple of months ago. I had a cut on the inside of one (still don't know how it happened) and a screw in a rear at the same time.

Only thing is, if I had a puncture in one tyre would they pay out for pairs as the axel has to match?

I'm really not sure if they would, I've never looked at the paper work which is pretty lazy of me. My initial thought would be that it's unlikely.

Yep that would be my thoughts too, but I suppose it would still pay for 1 tyre... I might have a look, ALA provide it too.

Yeh could still save you £2 - £300. I wasn't going to bother with it but at £5 a month extra on my PCP I went with it. On my last car I didn't take it out and curbed both fronts a month before the car went back.

For me I'm too picky for the alloy insurance, most of the repairs seem to be sub standard which would be fine for handing back to a dealer but for me owning the car no... I am so careful with my alloys, diamond cuts are kerb magnets :( I have 2 tiny chips in one of mine on the edge, where the alloy slipped out of my hands when I took it off to clean :( It's one of those that's best left, because the whole wheel could end up worse off with a reburb. God knows why I've just added the optional wheels for the RS3, I were worried the paint only finish would look cheap on a car of that price.

I think I will definitely look at tyre insurance, the fronts on the RS3 (now 255/30) are £190-£220 each, I don't think I could stomach £400 for two tyres if I got a puncture in one. Knowing my luck it would be an irreparable puncture after 2000 miles haha.

How do the companies pay out do you know? Do you have to pay for the tyre and then claim it? Would be a pain to have to wait a week for a claim to process for a tyre for example.

Agree re alloy repair, for me it just closes off the dealer taking any deductions when the car goes back.

I would expect you probably have to contact them before replacement so that they can at least give you an indication of budget etc, I really should check the policy.

I will be reading into the ALA policy later on today I think, see what it covers exactly.

I was offered something very similar to this called the Quattro protection package what the contents where l ain't sure, but l refused it, but with it added my monthly payments where £425, l then asked to add the virtual Cockpit technology package advanced in lieu of the quattro protection pack, my monthly payments dropped to £410, it was megabucks well over £2000 easily
