I was all set to take an S3 next month, and after a brief panic about insurance in my new town I cancelled the order. Now resolved all the insurance and renewed on my current A3, and can now start looking again. I rang the dealer to see if I could still grab my S3, but he's found a buyer in the mean time.

Blows everything wide open now, I was set on an S3, but now that I can choose again, I'm thinking do I get a Golf R, even a GTI performance, or perhaps an A5 (fell in love with the new shape), or dare I say it.... M140i

I'm expecting to take some flak for this but, the M140i with a fair few options is cheaper than the S3, two extra cylinders, a litre bigger, and is definitely more of a "drivers" car (IMO of course). Or am I having a funny five minutes and pursue the car I was so set on before?

Could also go very silly with an A45... or (and I hate to join in on this god forsaken debate) RS3

M240i is nicer, and doesn't look like a shoe. Nice to drive, and smarter interior than before.

I'd just be dubious in winter without changing the tyres.

Yes I would love love love one, a friend is a salesman at BMW and his 240 was gorgeous, and that engine is a whole other beast, unfortunately five doors is a must for me.

I think though that I agree, and although I want fun, I may stick with a 4WD option, the roads near me are lethal. If the temptation isn't there... I can't do anything stupid...

Go for the gti clubsport, I had seriously considered that and it was incredibly close between choosing that and an S3.

It depends what Audi do to the next A3. If I like it it will be another A3. If not I don't know!
 
I can see myself moving to an S4/s5 or going down the SQ5 route. I want to keep the speed but move into a better interior next car, previous TT and A5 were nicer places to sit.

Love the s3 though even if it has the odd irritant.

Ah fair one. Yea, roads are the same by me also. What about BMW M5 xDrive :D? Just came out today, haha!

Don't, I was saying to a colleague "hey imagine having 600 ponies out of a dual turbo V8 and not being able to use them because it's rear wheel drive" he stopped me right there, and now I wish I had 89k!!! Eye watering moneys! RS5 looks much nicer, even if it isn't quite the same beasty.

I'm sadly moving away from the brand (hopefully temporarily) to VeeDub. As a comp car driver the cost of Audi's on the available list have shot up and my hand has been forced to choose an alternative. So with my VCDS cable in hand I wanted to remain with VAG.

Oddly the car I've decided on was ridiculously cheep, despite tax being higher than I pay at the mo, still works out cheaper.

I'd settled on a GTD Golf, until the Mrs asked what the car in the corner was, as she loved the colour / alloys, to which I replied, well it is on the list, but only as a 3dr. So we crunched some numbers and our daughter confirmed she was happy climbing in etc and we subsequently went home to order a
mk7.5 3dr, Indium grey Golf R on 19's, dynamic chassis and a bunch of other options. Saying that, it's highly spec'd out the box anyway.

So it'll be arriving early Dec. Really looking forward to the performance hike & Haldex as never had such a powerful or 4x4 car.

I'll remain hiding in the corner on here and offer VCDS help where I can.

A facelift S3 and I can't ******* wait to get out of my outdated bmw cabin!
