Hi All,

I have had trouble finding a turbo hose and a breather hose for my S3 (AMK). I ordered a load of hoses from Forge and have fitted some to date (being Induction hose and Brake vacuum hose) no probs but the Turbo hose listed for the 210/225 VAG engines on the site did not fit, neither did the Cam Cover Hose. In addition has anyone managed to find a Breather hose for this engine?

Help appreciated in advance

Cheers

Shane

Never had a real prob with Forge hoses other than they sometimes need trimming... took nearly 2 inches off a hose for a Leon the other day...

I got the cam cover hose and it fitted no bother. Ditto to all the other forge bits.

Hi guys, sorry to jump in on this thread... I need some advice on hoses!!

Quite simply...I want to replace them all, coolant related, turbo related, any I need!

I've just bought a 2001 S3 with AMK engine...

I realise there are a lot of hoses, but a list would help greatly.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Look up "forge TT 225 silicone"

You will probably find everything you need
- silicone tip
- boost pipes upper and lower
- allcoolant pipes
- DV and turbo to charge pipes

Are you 100% positive you want to replace all the hoses now?

Lots of people simplify the PCV system and remove the jungle on top of the cam cover, and if you are considering fitting a front mounted intercooler you don't want to replace those intercooler hoses just yet.

If the engine is healthy the most satisfying hose to change is the TIP with an oversized 80mm silicon version.

good info on if you are thinking to go front mount.

the stock intercooler set of silicone hoses would set you back like a 1/3rd of a front mount intercooler setup

Thanks guys.
Right, I don't want to upgrade the intercooler if I'm honest, as I'm only looking to go to a stage 1 or 1.5...I don't want to mess around too much at this stage.
SO...I'm going to change out the turbo related hoses first and if any other hoses need doing, them as I go.
I want to tidy the engine bay....simplifying the PCV system sounds like something I'd be interested in. However...I know nothing of these engines yet having only purchased the S3 on Sunday. I'm very much a newbie learner!
Any help appreciated, including telling me the reasons for doing certain things...

Thanks all

LOL

Maybe start off searching our forums for
N249 delete
PCV delete
Injector wire tidy or tuck

And using google add the prefix 1.8t as many other cars share the same platform so you can get a really good visual of what needs to be done before venturing in to your own bay :)

Yeah been looking, liking what I'm seeing!
What are the advantages of the 'deletes'?

:sign wow:
That is some machine in the picture!

There are guides for simplifying the PCV system in the FAQ's along with a few other guides too

Main reason for the simplification is to just get rid of all the pipes that generally split and leak... the guide is aimed towards fitting a catch can but you don't need to do that part...

N249 delete is not really needed as such... its more a cosmetic thing unless you get to a level of tune where it can interfere

Just make sure the N249 remains electrically connected else it will mess with ECU fuelling adaptions...

Loads of guides in the FAQs for this though

Got all my hoses to sfs silicone ones. All coolant kit, boast upper and lower, air intake and cam breather

Just been on the website...so many there :puke2:
I literally don't know my *** from my elbow. When I get the all clear back next week from all the servicing I'll dig right into the world of hoses. I think I've decided to stick with a panel filter and mod the airbox aswell. I do love a cone...but I want to keep the air as cold as possible. As Tuffty has mentioned before (somewhere...I've read so much Tuffty literature!!) I reckon I'm gonna mod the air box for a larger cold air intake and get a decent panel filter. there's currently a pipercross in there that came with the car. looks clean...dunno how good they are or if anyone rates them etc?

I'll be honest...I've not even owned the car a week and I've mashed my brain already!!
:rockwoot:

Don't get hung up on cold air intake... its around 150 degrees as it exits the turbo regardless... better off with decent intercooling... FMIC's make a world of difference

Ah right I didn't realise it was that heat on exit...well I may go for a nice looking cone and heat shield then! FMIC's...that's something to do with intercoolers I would guess. Are there any uprated intercoolers that fit where the OEM twins do...? or is it all upgraded one piece front mounts?
Like I said...I don't intend on going to wild. Just rather replace upgraded parts that fit OEM. keep it Audi...just better ;)

I think I'm going to go sfs silicon hoses as they look to do all, if not, most of the hoses in the bay. plus prices seem fair decent. Is there any real difference between the 80mm Badger5 TIP and the sfs? I'd rather keep all the hoses the same brand. I'm weird like that.....
But I do want quality, so if another brand does a better hose on a certain application, I'd go for that.

Liking the look of the N249 delete as well....nice simple little job!
Still not sure I'd bother with the PCV delete though...unless can be done without catch can easily as you mentioned before?

Sidemounts are rubbish, there is a 'replacement' for one side of the sidemounts but its rubbish too... if you are going to do anything consider doing induction, FMIC and custom map to tie it all together

If you want ot keep it OE looking then have a look in the FAQ's as there is a link to a post in my thread where I fit a cone filter into the OE air box

I can see why side mounts aren't optimising airflow and maximising cooling across surface area...I would just like to avoid messing too much....however, if I can get a sleeper looking machine with good performance without compromising reliability as it would be virtually a daily driver, then it's something I would consider in time!
Interesting idea fitting a cone in the air box.
I'll have a look thanks!

Yes it can be done. And is easier. One less thing to install

Instead of getting new pipes etc. to go to a catch can you can just delete all the stuff under the intake manifold then join from the block breather elbow using a bit of rubber hose the correct diameter. Literally like 1.5 " "long and a couple hose clamps. Join it directly to the hard line that comes off from the hockey puck looking thing. And that's it.

Details should be in the same thread as the PCV delete

That does sound easy. I'll look for a how too thread....
Fair play you guys are brilliant at explaining things. Big help!

Apart from not being a daily driver (I do too many miles to justify that) you have pretty much summed up my car lol ;)

Sleeper look. I recommend the Wagner intercooler (although get ready to poo out a kidney to sell). Check my thread in my sig to see how it looks on.

I'm sure there's another brand now (AH Fabs?) that also keeps the fog lights but you would wanna paint it black to keep it OEM looking.

I believe BIll is widely considered a leading authority on 1.8t 20v engines in the UK.

From what I read it appears Creations Motorsport copied his original development designs for his oversized Turbo Intake Pipe (v2.2 and now v3) over the years. There are some complaints on the Seat site that the Creation Motorsport TIPs are not as well manufactured, especially the best version v2.2 where people complained the billet would not fit the Turbo correctly.

above is a link to TIP, heat shield and jetex filter - the 2.2 is a little more difficult to fit but apparently adds a slight improvement over the cheaper V3.
I have a pretty low powered S3 but went for a V3 + Heat Shield and the cheap alternative of a Honda S2000 Filter - and have recently changed the paper filter for a slightly more expensive fabric Cosworth S2000 filter.
