How many B5 1.8T Quattro Sports are still about?

B***ards!

The TQS i am looking at has a tow bar fitted, is this likely to cause any problems if it has been used as a tow car?

Apparently it doesnt have twin electric, so probally hasnt been pulling a caravan. Could this put extra wear/strain on the diff/drivetrain?

Also, how hard are the tow bars to remove?

HA HA!
I had a tow bar fitted to mine and have pulled all sorts of stuff.

Why would it cause problems?
only if they are burning the clutch out or it has been fitted badly, might put a bit of wear on the brakes but no more than you average TWOC'er ragging it round Sainsbury's car park!

don't put much stock in service history on 15 year old cars.
You are more likely to get one cared for by someone who does a lot of their own work

mine doesnt have a service history since i bought it but I can guarantee it has been cared for with more filters changes, plugs scans and upgrades than any audi specialist will have done on a 10k cycle

be more interested in the necessary replacements like bushes, arms, brake lines etc

I pay £450 Ins, get 20-30 mpg depending on my mood, it works in rain, shine snow and ice. can fill it with boxes or kids and attack B roads or tootle down the motorway.

cant think of another 4wd car that gives all that without looking like a chav

What do you mean by "straight line fuel system"?
Not sure what's been fitted very long time ago I do have a vid on YouTube for sound it's called audi a4 1.8t revs hear thos dump valves as for fuel system it's hard to explain I'm not a mechanic just like my fast cars

As an S4 owner the one thing that stands out in my mind (as already mentioned) is the front suspension. Bushes/arms/joints left right and centre. I've found it can be really hard to tell where any knocking is coming from, meaning months of driving around with it which ****** me right off. You'll feel my pain at some point if the cars a keeper haha. But great cars and a decent TQS is definitely a rarer find than an S4. I looked for one before buying another S4, thought it would be a bit more economical, but just couldn't find one I really wanted.

Also in regards to your question about Quattro, pretty sure the A4 as the torsen system, 'proper' Quattro as many would say.... Rear end action is possible given the right weather :whistle2:

Anyway get some photos up! If you do fancy a brake upgrade at any point I've got a set of facelift callipers off an S4 you can have for a few quid!

yes I have one.... Its up for sale ..... See for sale

OK .... as per the for the for sale ....
Good Bits:
180BHP QTS Avant HPI Clear as time of purchase
I've always changed the oil 6 months after the service with genuine oil filter and use Castrol Edge Oil and I've always idled the car after running.
Main dealer service (apart from 1 x specialist)
Factory fitted electric Sun roof - working
Factory fitted Cruise control - working
Factory fitted Tow Bar pack - electrics working
New Clutch and DMF Flywheel @ 150K miles
4 x Refurbed alloys with Goodyear All seasons approx 3mm of tread Spare needs a refurb but has a nearly new ZZ3
Loads of history and parts changed.
Original engine and Turbo.
Larger brake discs (using caliper adaptors)
New calipers at front with discs and pads
Was used as a daily drive up until January this year though the it gets a use every few weeks to keep it OK. Always started (apart from when battery died 7 years ago) never let me down and I still love going out in it as I prefer this to the pool shed Qashqui :sos: I have at the moment.....

Noteworthy points.
Original engine and Turbo. 216K miles
Will need a cam belt replaced this year
Some pond scum left a rather nasty car park dent on the rear passenger door
There is an LPG system on the car however this will be removed as it require a service / pump change so a filling cap will be present on the rear quarter.
Has been Supagarded - good paint for 16 years though could do with a mop. This car is 16 years old so will have some "life marks" on it

Price.... I am researching this at the moment..... or make me an offer.......

I've got a 2000 'X' reg TQS.
Bought it from it's only driver who had driven the car from new when it was his company car (Union of Democratic Mineworkers in Mansfield)
When they disposed of it at 3yrs old he retained the car and ran it until around 18mts ago when I bought it from him
248k has passed under its wheels and other than the Bolero alloys being their usual crap self, the drivers seat bolster showing some wear, and a small patch of corrosion under the drivers door handle, it's great
It's just been featured in the 'CarPool' on Pistonheads.
I'm just about to change the engine and diff oils, plugs and filters ready for winter (it's already got Blizzards on in anticipation of the white stuff)
Last year it failed it's MOT in a nsf upper suspension arm bush (replaced the whole arm) and this year sailed through with no advisories.
248k. Yep it's a lot but when I rang the specialist who had looked after the car for years they told me to buy it or they would.
Everything still works on it, the climate control is still icy and dentists the windows nicely, tr headlamp washers pop out, squirt, and pop back in just like when it was new etc
Can't say I've had anyhu g go wrong (yet) but I'm always researching things...

Forgot to add, I'm taking it you Bielewski in Sheffield to get the drivers bolster done, a smart repair place in Chesterfield for the paint issue and a friend is going to media-blast and then paint the wheels for me in yr next month or two.
After that it will look pretty darn good, and for £400 (plus £100 for 4 Bridgestone Bluzzaks at a knock down price of course) it's a great way to drive around when we get snow (and means I can leave the Strange Rover on the drive...

It's a 2000 W reg P38 DHSE, 80k but at the moment it's sat doing what RR's do best; doing nothing

Mines not broken, as such, it needs a new battery and an mot.
I've had a 4.6 and the 2.5, both have their good and bad points.
With regards to the TQS, I've been thinking of getting hold of a pair of recaros from an escort turbo / sierra Cosworth and using the fabric from my standard seats to recover them.
Does anyone know if they will fit as long as I swap the subframes over?

Mine has an as yet unknown engine problem, failed the MOT on emissions and had a bit of a missfire, and thus far everything i've done to fix it has made it worse :p

The A4 seats dont have a subframe as such. The mounting just forms part of the bottom of the seat. You can cut it off and weld together a frame. The Recaro classics are also pretty bulky seats, i'm not sure there would be enough factory material to recover them.

Thanks for your advice Aragorn, it sounds like my idea is scuppered then!
Early in its life my TQS had the oil strainer etc replaced and I'm sure that since then the owner just used 5w40 fully synthetic
As an aside, could you point me in the direction of which pile to use for the diffs as I may do those whilst th car is up in the air?

That was meant to say 'oil', not 'pile'!
Anyway, just got all the service parts in for my TQS, oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter, plugs and anti-freeze and realise don't that it comes to circa 25% of what I paid for the car!
Plus I'll need a new battery at circa £50
If anyone could advise on the best oils for gearbox/diffs I would be very grateful

Off down to the NEC Classic Car Show in mine tomorrow, apart from the scabby Bolero's it looks good, water bearing up and rolling off nicely after its machine polish

Dailying a noggy blue TQS here in Ireland, only know of a couple other TQS' still alive around here, would love a S4 but the tax / insurance at the moment kills the idea haha

Love the colour, really suits it!
I'm thinking of having my wheels media blasted and then painted, including the rims, rather than have the diamond-cut finish on the rims and the wheels then lacquered.

Couldn't agree more.
There's a wheel refurb company near me, quite a big concern, and when I rang up and asked about having the wheels refinished with diamond cut rims, the conversation ended like this;
(Me) so, what warranty is there on the wheels when you've refurbished them?
(Them) I'm sorry?
(Me) well basically these wheels are notorious for the lacquer lifting, weather getting under them etc, how long do you guarantee them for when you've weaved you magic on them?
(Them) er, well, until the lacquer fails I guess....
(Me) click...brrrrrr.
To be fair, the fella on the other end did sound like a YTS sprog, but I wasn't instilled with confidence.

TBH i've had exactly the same convo, albeit a bit less arsey :p

I bought some 18" Audi "Speedline" split rims (fitted to the 8P and Golfs) which had been refurbished with a diamond cut lip (i didnt want it, but they were already done and were the same price as scabby unrefurbed ones on ebay, so went with them). They were bought directly from a wheel refurbisher.

Boy said he usually gives a 2 year warranty, but becuase of the diamond cut lip he'd only be giving 3 months on them.

They lasted a year, and werent even on the car over winter as i run 17's with winter tyres over the worst of the weather. All four of them are ruined now and need redone.
