Hi all,
I'm looking at getting the Alpine X701D-A4R.
After reading reviews and seeing what people have wrote on this forum and others it seems to be a great bit of kit. I was pointed in the direction of
Raysmith.co.uk who are selling these for £1599.00
Now there website is currently offering 10% discount with a voucher code so they are available for £1439.10
I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in one of these units then I will contact the supplier and ask if there would be any further discounts available.

Thanks.

Good bit of kit though . I got one as car is a keeper. Would expect it to come down in price in the future. No need for dvd /cd player as music streams easily via Bluetooth. I also got the upgraded front speakers, much better than original

Did you have B&O speakers?

I hoping to get a few people interested so I can ask for some sort of discount.
If and when you do you will need to have the unit pre-programmed by the dealer. Might be worth throwing this out to the A5 and Q5 community?

Yeah throw it out to who ever. If I get at least five people interested I'll make contact with the supplier then.

Might be worth tapping into this thread from A5OC. Very nice chap from there had it installed in his S5 not long ago and I think a few members expressed some interest.

Met up with the guy recently and saw the system fist hand. It is very impressive and has a lot of very good features, often better than OEM. Very good idea if you are thinking about retrofitting things like Nav or reversing camera, as I think overall it is much more cost effective.

Fitted mine myself did not take that long to fit. Hardest part is routing the wires for dab aerial and GPS wire!

Absolutely worth every penny!!! I have the system installed but got the DVD player and the reversing camera which is epic. I got the DVD as I sit in a lot of traffic and in the short time I had it I have watched loads of films lol, blasted M25!!! Whilst there I added a powered sub too. Im also going back soon to have the full speaker upgrade fitted as I have the B+O system which is pants in comparison to the Alpine speakers. I was blown away by their A5 car with only the front speakers fitted!!

I'll be at the Ultimate Dubs show in March on the Alpine stand with my car if people want to view it.

If you have the b&o with all the knobs and buttons around the gear stick, are the buttons then useless or does it intergrate with them all?

So will it use the B&O set up fine but it's recommended to upgrade speakers? How much are the Alpine fronts?

If you have those knobs and buttons then this product isn't aimed at you as you already have MMI of some description. Yes it's doable but would involve a lot more work and certainly won't be plug and play.

If you have these buttons then you have MMI in your car. That means your car is the MOST system and the Alpine system does not work with MOST vehicles. Or at least it didn't when I got it fitted in November time.

Yes, and they are much better. Cant wait to get my B+O speakers out. I used to this they were very good until I heard the Alpines in their A5 lol. Cant recall the price, I got it quoted in December with, what they call the stage 1 and 2 speaker upgrade with the amp and also the TV Tuner.

Is there an Amp swap or just changing the speakers to Alpine from B&O?
No amp swap required unless you go for both upgrade speaker packages. When you purchase the unit it will be pre-programmed depending on the original setup in your car. Mine has the original amp located in the boot, left hand side so needed programming with.

Count me in for the group buy. Have been looking for a decent solution for ages and this looks class.

Ok a little update.
I have found a seller from Europe who does the 'A4R' kit and will do a single unit for 1450 euro (about £1140) delivered.
If we can get 3 buyers he'll do it for 1400 euro. (About £1100).
What do people think?
Would it be sensible to buy from Europe or pay the extra from a uk seller.
Thanks

Think that ultimately depends on the warranty Alpine offer. If it's a UK only warranty to deal with Alpine then I wouldn't touch it after having an issue with a french camera from Pixmania several years ago. By the time I'd paid postage insured back to Panasonic in France, any saving was wiped out. If it's a Pan-EU warranty I'd happily order on that basis.

Thanks for this.
Who do I need to ask about this? Alpine customer services or the seller??
Thansk

I'd suggest talking to Alpine UK. Pixmania said we'd have no problems returning it to Panasonic UK but when it came to it, France was the only option. The seller may just tell you it'll be fine knowing full well it's not.

Also remember it will need pre -programming depending on what set up you have currently in your car. Amp or no amp etc. Might be an issue talking to someone abroad. Also you might not get the right facia plate as in Europe it will be left hand drive specific! Contact raysmith.co.uk and see if they can do a group discount?

When I spoken to the guy I said I had retrofitted the b&o speaker and amp and he said that wouldn't be a problem.
He also stated he supploed the kit for right hand drive cars.
I looked at Raysmith and they're single price with the 10% discount they are currently offering is still over £1400
I can't see them reducing the price of each unit by £300 with a group buy

Ok heard back from alpine customer services today and they said they will supply and fit units for £1199. Or supply only for the same price as they do the fitting so that's free
I've attached screenshots of the emails.

I'm definitely interested. The price is a bargain!

Emailed alpine today to see what deposits are required and what fitting availability they have.
Will keep you updated

Thanks John. I have had my eye on this Sat Nav since it came out last year.

Brilliant news. I'll phone them tomorrow. Cheers.

John, will you be phoning the office in Coventry or the mobile number provided by Mitch when you book and pay a deposit?

Hi All

Though I would come here and say Hi!

So as John has stated in the above posts, this is the deal that is on offer at the moment. I'm sure you'll all agree that it is an amazing deal.

If anyone has any questions, please ask.

Please see the following link for More information and the install that I did on Ben's S5:

Thank you

Mitch

I have taken up the offer and my car is booked in.

For anyone else who is interested in this system, Alpine told me the offer ends today.
