Has anyone fitted H&R -35MM to a A3 TDI SLINE? Just my cars gone higher!!

Ive just this morning recieved my H&R springs part no 981440921 i went for the 35mm as i didnt want to o big a drop and to ruin the ride however when comparing the springs side by side ny actual OEM sline springs is shorter.

Any way ive tried just one of the rear springs on the rear drove the car round just 5 miles to the block to let it settle and its either sitting the same or perhaps even slightly higher that it was on the OEM audi springs on that side!

I wasnt expecting a huge drop but i was expecting 20mm really

Has any one else used these exact springs any pictures? I think im going to be sending them back and will have to get the bigger drop ones.

this is how its sits oem on 19"s before any lower springs and it i dont think it would look much different if they was fitted!

new springs take a while to "bed in" settle down mate , what are they quoted as -35mm off the s-line or off the normal a3 as the s-line is lower than the standard a3 most lowering springs are quoted off the standard a3 so will not lower the s-line as much as they will off the standard a3

Yea m8 -35mm is quoted off the normal a3 but theyre sitting a little higher by looks so it basically means either theyre not the drop theyre supposed to be or the sline is already around 35mm lower

TAhe thing is even when you look at the actual springs you can see theyre longer than the standard one even

Can you post a link to the actual springs you bought. I can't find your part number on any sites. It usually looks something like this... 29227-1.

Also, maybe the s-line springs look shorter when off the car, but remember they are a stiff spring. The H&R are softer and therefore may compress more when all are fitted and settled, making the car slightly lower than s-line height.

What's s-line height.... 25mm below standard I think. So going 35mm below standard with h&r is going to be hardly noticable tbh.

Seems to me you actually dropped 10mm and given your std springs had probably settled that much anyway you are not going to notice much difference. As Ads says free length is no indication of compressed length.

Ok, one more before I turn in......

Yeah they do do -50mm which will be noticably lower than s-line, but some people do go for -35mm on s-line because they are happy with the s-line height but want the improved ride comfort that h&r springs give, rather than the bone shaking s-line ride.

If you've only changed one spring then you wont notice the full effect untill the other 3 are fitted.

As mentioned you won't notice the full drop until all 4 springs are fitted and ran in for around 500-1000 miles and then you'd get the extra 15-20mm drop on the S-Line.

I believe you've just spoke to Chris and are returning the 35mm springs to be swapped over for the 50mm kit so as soon as we get them back we'll get the new ones out to you.

An old post I know, but wanted to also post to confirm that the 35mm H&R springs (29261-2) RAISE the rear of the car to just above a standard Sport spring. The fronts have lowered mine about 10mm or so over stock (SLine) so are about right, but the rear springs are a bit of a joke tbh.

H&R should not market these springs like this, the box states a variety of VAG fitments which I think is where it all goes wrong; the Jetta and Octavia are listed, which to me are larger cars than the a3, it may be a similar platform but it's got to be heavier.

There is another set of H&R -35mm spring kit available for axle loads under 1020kg (part number 29261-1 I think) - I bet these would be a better bet for the A3 [even though 2.0TDI is for over this weight and the 29261-2 part number is correct for the car].

Hi, Has the rear of the car settled down since you fitted then? Was the ride any worse than with the Sline springs?

The car never made it off the drive, I took them straight off as I knew it just wasn't right; springs don't really settle beyond maybe 5mm max otherwise they'd be prone to sag. I put the s-line springs back on.

For me I think the S-Line springs rode fine just wanted to tweak the rideheight slightly - I've got some RS3/S3 rear springs which are shorter than s-line to try, they should be stiffer than the h&r progressive springs so handling should be fine with the stiffer spring at the back.
