Gops' Subtle mod thread

I WANT these turbos! Badly.

Triple turbo install - do it!!!! hahaha

ps guys- the cloudy headlights are a doddle to sort out.....3M have even put a YouTube tutorial on how to de cloudy them using their £15 kit. You would probably be able to sort out two sets of headlights from the 1 kit tbh.

Even I managed it on my own with a house hold drill and I can just about top up my oil without supervision! lol

Problem is.....I dont have a drill!! :(

Lol! After seeing tuffty's car it's so mesmerising, I would absolutely love to go gt35 stroker! Funds permitting though.. It's a lovely thought that your literally driving one of the fastest cars on the street and that the local GTR wouldn't stand a chance haha! I did see a Mclaren P1 in cov recently, that thing was as fast as you seen on top gear!

Anyways we will see.. So far I've Set my eyes on a hybrid, but maybe over time (and after seeing those turbos at bill's) I would like to see the extra work/cost involved in such a build.

Yeah when I've been down to Bills, tufftys car really was an eye opener of how nice and OEM these S3s can be when fettled with properly and still end up with silly bhp - this was back in the GT30 days though.

Pretty Jel you've seen a P1 tbh dude- did you chase her down and get it to spit some blue flames at you? :racer:

Oooo hybrid talk :sly:

It was too far ahead to even see! It's too fast! But hybrid would be pretty good with a stroker. Gt35 would be better :p

Right! A few updates. Did a little bit yesterday! So got the car up for a service!

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397309660433449

Old oil ewwww!
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397309678133456

Then decided to change the catch can filter since it's been a while. The old one seemed blocked and right I was!!!

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397309743921151
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397309752498475
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397309760636339

Emptied the catch can but car is still chucking out blue smoke every now and then.. Mmm must of broken something! Oh well, it's being rebuilt again so no big deal there. When I'm abit sad or disappointed, I don't paint stuff like tuffty (most because I end up really high and paint everything).. I clean the car :)

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397309934702939
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397309943541427

What Audi??

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397309953572118

Which resulted to a semi clean car...
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397309971941124

So then I made my way to Midland car care to get my windows tinted!

They had some great cars there!! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397310012877316
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397310020343098

And then the finishing product:
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1397310044205966

It's a very good tint! Lifetime warranty with it so I'm happy! It's a factory tint which keeps the OEM feel to the car whilst maintaining privacy when your doing things like dogging etc.. Perfect for me! :)

Hope every one is well and looking forward to the new year! I've been busy collecting parts for the car since July for a stroker-hybrid built.

So far I've got the turbo, it's a LUPO spec turbo so let's see if it'll respond as well as it did on bills lupo. Some may ask why am I doing this? Better drivability and Bevause I want to really lol!

The car has been well behaved but does have its moments recently, it has a little splutter in 6th gear on the motor way but im putting that on spark plugs/coilpacks. I've got a spare block lying around and an AGU head, the rest will be sourceed either by me or bills as it's easier to have bill order some parts rather than rely on me.

I've also looked to improve flow so I'm ordering a trackslag charge pipe and Ive already got a forge map pipe to help aid flow a little more. I'm hoping to get a manifold made by bill if it's cheaper than the SEM one.

Looking forward to this one, again I'm open to any suggestions that might help the car flow better and stay more reliable :)

Gops

Is there an appreciable gain to be had from that higher flowing charge pipe? Has there been any before and after dyno runs?

There is a little crease in the charge pipe, I don't think they'll be much added flow but I reckon it'll help with overall flow and spool (maybe). Anything to help flow (even if it helped by 1%) is a positive. Maybe the bigger manifold will help, I don't know. The stroker kit and general engine build will help as bill is building it. And as we know, his work is amazing! I will also ask for him to fabricate a new exhaust to further help the flow. I'm obsessed.

This isn't a surprise.. Just thought I'd update this with an outdated image! Engines actually back in for now..

Bought some Vibra-technics mounts as the poly filled mounts I made will be abit too much for me.. I've let bill decide on turbo spec, he knows better than me :)

Photos are all over the place. Intercooler and oil cooler are now on painted black for stealth :)

Exhaust is something bill tried, 3" to 2 2.5 internal pipes to twin 3" outlets. It looks smart as flock! Very OEM looking and has a real deep growl to it.

Heres the youtube vids I posted:

Once bill has flashed a base map onto the car and ran it on the dyno, its ready for me to put some mileage on it. Im hoping its soon as ive got some time off work to spend getting to know the car, log it etc! Super excited!! :D

Oh. Just a word of advice, don't overcook your headlamps whilst converting to bi-xenon projectors..

Managed to get a new lamp from GSF and get it done before I went to bills on Monday to fit them. They look very good and bright! Cool mod ;)

Cheers steve! I cant wait to put some miles onto the car, I've forgotten how to drive the thing, so learning on how to drive it again will be epic :)

I'm gutted I missed the start up

I've got to give Marky a massive thanks, he's done loads to this build! I've got a nice surprise for the B5 team once its fully done :)

Hahaha I got slated by bill and paul, it wasn't actually me who burnt them, My mum thought I was cooking something and whacked up the temperature without me knowing! I cant wait! I might pop down to B5 tomorrow since I'm in the area just to see her again!

Prawny I'll show you once its done! Actuator pressure on run in first. Few oil drops and a fair few miles and I cant wait to see her final figures.

I have in the mean while organised to change the suspension front and rear to new B8's and front camber plates. Also got some new Cookbot tie arms to go on too. Michelin PSS's on the car too so should handle B-E-A utifully! ;)

So an update on the car. It's had its initial run in on the dyno at Bills. Sounded great on the dyno but more to that later..

It's now with me on a run in map, feels awesome, actually feels more eager than my k04 hybrid, definitely spools quicker! It's only on actuator pressure with n75 off so 10-ish psi tailing off to 12 but it feels really quick (I have been driving a fiesta every day!)

Sound - now it sounds great, really deep growl but man it drones! Initially I wasn't too concerned but it's getting louder, I think I'll have to talk to bill about an additional silencer as its way to much drone on cruising motorway speed. However, windows open in a tunnel and it sounds epic!!! So it's a good start considering the exhaust is a new thing we tried. I'm hoping where the back box is, if there's enough room to add a silencer before the 180 bend to the back box itself.

Little knock on the subframe, I think the DP may be hitting it but need to investigate on Monday when I can pop it on a ramp or stands.

Little tweeks but overall it's fantastic to drive. Badger 5 team have done an amazing job with the car!!! Engine is beautiful, a real work of art! Smooth and quiet surprisingly!

So let the running in commence! 200 miles in so far! 500 miles then will drop it for some Nanodrive or quantum.

Mine is quite drony and it's just a miltek non res, don't know whether to have a 3inch resonator added to the current miltek back box or go for something like the above but with 2 boxes.

Looks good that. 3 silencers are definitely needed, it's gotten so loud now, it's nice when I hear it, but it's abit impractical.

Just want to hope that rear box hasn't got a tight bend inside the box. Mines pretty wide, so it restricts a box before size wise but will have to ask the main man what's possible!

It's such a tease! I want more booooooosts! Limiter is set to 6.5k to stop me killing everything lol

Is that a solenoid valve I see there?! :D that would be cool being able to switch open the valve for a little more...... Noise and flow.

Thats kinda the point dude... boost opens the valve, makes more noise :)

When below rated opening pressure exhausts is directed through the silencer. and is nice and quiet (ish).. powervalve exhaust systems use this

this is when customers have car before shaken down by me before collection. You are doing the shake down phase yourself gops. Debugging and modding as required once its had several heat cycles and ran around for a bit. They take a while to settle in.. Remembering its only run on ramp for a few minutes, and on the dyno for a few initial bedding in runs, quick oil change, then you took it away.. Get them running in miles on it now. Then back for sorting out niggles and some actual boost and revs. :) Dissapointing the exhaust is boomy. Should be possible to add an inline silencer I hope.. But that rear box is larger than the others.. We'll have to look see what space is available.

I know dude, and it's an experience and a half! Bespoke builds always require adjustments regardless, almost covered 400 miles! (No sleep face) :) I'll be over during the week to see you as I'm on taxi duty still!

Car feels amazing though, engine has no leaks coolant and oil level is good! This was my dads experience at Bills, exactly what he said was, "the vibe I got at that place was they know exactly what they're doing. It's the best place for bespoke builds I have ever seen. Those guys know exactly what they're on about! It was bluddy excellent!"

Then he couldn't stop talking about the dyno haha he loved it!

Your dad looked like he was enjoying himself. Glad he liked it.
I'm very intrigued to see how this billet 84mm 7+7 comp wheel behaves like when we get to unleash it.

Disappointing the exhaust rear box ended up as boomy. doh! Hopefully be able to slide in an inline next to it like the other builds have had. Worth a punt tho.. If you don't try these things and all that,.

oil wise.. I would do the 500 on its current oil, drop that then same oil for next 250-500 then nanodrive afterwards

I still think it's the best way to do these exhausts rather than the split thingy, I've been asked about the car and if it was modified!! So it still looks like a sleeper, someone asked me about the exhaust at the petrol station, they said it looks ace!

So same 5w-40 semi? Any particular brand? I'll PM you

Bit of bird etching removal.. Probably not the best way but works well :)

Guessing it reflows the lacquer to an extent... prefer ye olde compounding/polish with a DA (or wetsand if that bad...)

<tuffty/>

Repairs or resurfaces the lacquer to some extent. Polishing does a better, cleaner job. But I don't always have time for that lol.

Thanks dude! Lots of time, money and effort has gone into this car.

500 miles has gone, oil has been dropped for some more semi syntax for further running in. She feels good! Far more eager than when I picked her up! slowly slowly shes opening up more. fixed the knocking noise and just waiting for the suspension now. MY camber plates have arrived so just going to put that all together!! so close :)

Soo! The car has now done 1000 miles!! :) oil to be changed on Friday to normal stuff! But the car is far from complete. It's wheelspinning in 1st and 2nd which could be because it's alignment isn't right or tyre pressures are high. I'm going to pop in some fresh haldex oil and a filter on Friday.

Another thing I've been thinking about.. Was talking to bill about putting the IMMO back into the car, he may be able to use the file from my narrow band ecu but will have to try it.. Now I have a set of facelift clocks to put in, the DIS is good on it so I'm swapping it over.. That means it's IMMO3, so my narrowband IMMO won't work on it? I'm also trying this facelift clocks because of a slight glitch I'm getting with my RNSE. It won't show the track info on the Dis. I believe it's down to the CAN difference on the PFL clocks and the RNSE. So hopefully the swap over should cure it.. Just need to extract the SKC from the new clocks.

Now the car itself. It's amazing. The engine is really amazing. If you want an engine built by someone who knows their stuff, it's @badger5 you need to go to! Now you'll remember the exhaust boom I was talking about earlier. After going to B5 and @<tuffty/> ragging.. I mean driving my car so I can hear it, it wasn't loud at all. Infact, it sounded pretty good! It is boomy inside though and that could be down to the twin 3" pipes. Bill and Paul blocked up one of the pipes and it was silent inside! Cured! So now bill is developing a boost activated valve in one of the exhaust pipes which will be perfect!!!

Suspension is being changed next week, so when bill has some time, will be dropping it off for the tweeks. I want the car to be able to handle the power it's so close to having. 500+bhp and a well setup car is what I'm aiming for :)

Anything else you guys think I should do?
