How To: Fitting A HID Kit to A3 8L (pic heavy) !!

Have you had issues with them at all since fitting, like warning lights on the dash coming on?

No problems at all, I've not even had to change a bulb and i made this guide about 2 years ago....lol

Sorry to drag this up again, but what size hole cutter/saw did you use to make the hole in the back of the headlamp cover?

I know that I can probably follow this guide without the images, but a lot of them are missing and this looks very comprehensive, so is anyone able to update the links to the images??

sry for bumping this thread, but did you upload your pictures?

Really want to upgrade my awful yellow standard bulbs. Please let me know if any alternatives for 04 plate A3..

Bit of a bump... Ok hell of a bump... However I've now tried to fit my HID kit 3 times in the last few weeks, and no matter what I do the ballasts don't seem to be getting a stable voltage so the bulbs never warm up from 6000k to 4300k, just flickers in between. Tried Canbus warning cancellers, my ballasts are Canbus compliant, and bulbs of good quality (metal based and heavy too). Tried the kit in my sister's E46 and it works absolutely fine, no warnings, no flickering.

Last resort for me now is relay harnesses I think... Inline fuse, relay, power straight from the battery.

Madness lol. Just will not work.

To bad there are no pics available, I have my old Xenon kit from my Golf MKIV GTI that I want to install into my A3 20VT and I'd like to know what is the same as the Golf or if it's any different?

I'm not sure on the ins and outs, however I have seen many vehicles pass MOT with HIDs recently, thankfully the 8L Facelift lights have projectors so the beam isn't going to blind people as they have a sharp cut off, unlike clear reflector lenses... Which is just a recipe for an accident.

I seem to recall them technically being an MOT fail but realistically if they're installed well, into a suitable (non-halogen) projector, adjusted properly and aren't running stupid blue bulbs then they'd likely pass ok as many seem to

In Belgium it's allowed in non-halogen headlights, but only as long if you have a headlight washer system installed on your car, so I'm good to go! Not sure how it goes in other EU countries.
