Have been doing a little research on fitting a catch can to the S3 but just need a little push to go ahead and get one and fit it. What are the pros and cons of fitting one. I know it will greatly reduce the chance of valves carboning up (I believe) but are there any other benefits to fitting one. And where is the best place to acquire said catch can and how easy to install one. Cheers

Hi mate. Still running Stage 1 so probably about 310bhp. Have heard that its better for the engine if fitted after remapping so if anyone can say otherwise then I wont get one.

I haven't found a 'con' yet, I fitted a forge and empty it about once every 1.5k although it's not full.
Watching the amount of gunk coming out of this thing makes you realise what a good decision it was to fit it in the first place, it's a doddle to empty and takes about 5 minutes.

The other 'pro' to the system is that there will be no more PCV valve issues.

So then if its a good idea wheres the best place to get one.

I got mine directly from Forge but I guess there's a few places. Oddly enough some sites say that the kit will not fit a 2010 S3 with Xenons, this is incorrect as the above pics testify

Forge here.

Good for keeping my car running properly.

Hi, just fitted mine and i got a massive prob, there's a gap on top left corner, did yours fit flush??? many thx

So is the catch can worth it? I keep hearing diff opinions and keep putting it off! Anyone got the Revo one ? Or is forge the best ?

I don't see the point... I run a PCV blank. The gunk is oil and water from condensation created when the engine cools and heats up. Any water would evaporate when the engine gets hot anyway, so all you're doing to collecting this when you really don't need to. It's also a a great way of loosing boost pressure.
I could be wrong but from what I've seen, they don't help. They make it look like they're doing a good job, but all they do is make a problem look worse than it actually is.
I'll be cracking the inlet manifold off my car later this year anyway to check everything is up to scratch. And who wants to be checking on a catch can all the time and emptying it. All marketing BS in my opinion.

I spent few hours talking to forge, must say customer service is top notch, came to conclusion that it's not the forge's fault but my valve cover ain't straight so spoke to audi who didn't seem impressed me saying that it's audi's fault ended up orderin' brand new cover, will pick it up tomorrow if it's straight then happy days if the same as mine then that blanking plate isn't compatible with my car, bye bye catch can :detective2:

Would be very interested to see how you get on with that mate. Keep me updated please. How much was the cover by the way?

Mine fitted fine. If yours doesn't, how does the oem PCV system hook up properly? My plate is basically the same shape but blanked.

Good quality german plastic.

I'm sorry you've had a lot of trouble there.

We had no troubles with the Forge gear on my old cam cover, and if you get really stuck, get AMD to give me a call and I may be old to drop my old one over.

It's not pristine but it will fit.

Thankfully I don't have to worry about plastic any more!

What else are you having done?

Ouch! My rocker cover is bent as well BTW. After I took the pcv delete off, I put the standard pcv back on, and made a metal bracket that sits over the left side (the side that starts to run off) in order to grip it in better and prevent any possible leaks. Im running stage 2+ and it seems to be working great. Can take a pic if you like.

Oh and here is a pic of my rocker cover running off.

In this one the pcv delete is installed, and there is that much of a gap that you can see the orange gasket!

Would love to know how the cover is running off, what caused it etc etc. But then if you say you had your hands on a brand new one and it was bent as well? Very strange.

Good find! Wonder do they do a simple pcv delete, as Im not too interested in a catch can tbh. I think that 42DD are the same company that makes the bushes for the gear linkage that some of the s3 boys like to use.

i must say forge customer service was really good when i spoke to them few days back, will c wot they gonna say now, when i know that new cover comes bent as well, hope to get some refund back cos rest of the kit is spot on n i hope i can use 42dd plate with rest of the forge kit...will c...

You'll love it when it all comes together.

We had no problems with mine, other than maybe skinned knuckles for Steve, but he says my car always puts up a fight.

Stg2+ is a great upgrade....goes well, miminal lag, don't have to get to 4500rpm to light the fuse etc.

And while we're on the subject of catch cans.....another 200mls of nastiness drained from the system on mine today.
That's averaging 200mls or one full can per month...way more than the previous system was catching.

If often wondered, if you are removing all of that crap from the system, do you need to regularly top it up with fresh oil then??

Now that's an interesting one.

I have noticed I'm putting a bit more oil in,but the previous system was simply catching some of the muck, and the rest of it was entering via the rear cam cover breathers, and being burnt....so it shouldn't use more really.

What I think is happening is some oil vapour is getting out via the cam cover breather, and getting lost to the catch can that way.

This is on the underside of the cam cover, underneath the cam cover breather pipe....

And the breather pipe...
