Is there a USB cable that can be fitted instead of the AUX since my Pioneer already has the Aux in the glove box for use of the ipod there.

or maybe someone knows the part number for this one?

Ok so i have just looked this up on ETKA and the part numbers listed for the part shows this:

The confusing part is that it lists the same part twice with different PR codes... one has no mention of any thing extra where the bottom one lists the UF PR's which are shown as :

UF0 - Without Electric interface
UF1 - Electric interface for external use
UF2 - Electric interface for external use

Now it has all 3 on the same part number so how are you meant to order it without the hole for AUX?

The other part number listed there as 8P0 863 387 F has a PR of UF7 which it lists as
UF7 - Electric interface for external use

So how do we know which is which??

Totally agree, the current layout is a work of madness! I wish I was brave enought o start chopping away at my car!

Just don't get carried away with the cutting, that is all. I did it in stages so cut small bits at a time. In the end when it was very close, I ended up cutting inside the car.

Handy enough job but just time consuming.

Ok so I have just secured a really good price discount for the complete kit from my TPS dealer but I would have to place an order for £10 units.

If anyone wants to suggest anyone that can do cheap-ish deliveries that would be great.

could you explain (or better take a picture) how do you use wires ? Because I'm confused. I tried to do a clean wire to use a Cigar Lighter and a 12v plug.

If you have AMI you could always just use a USB extension cable to the AMI connector. Don't think Audi do a USB plug the way you can get on a VW Passat.

I just completed this mod today... it was interesting, thanks to Boydie with his findings with the size and cutting needed i saved loads of time.
I did however find a way to get the passenger side sit flush as per OEM, only thing is that there is a screw visible but it honestly doesn't look that bad.

I didn't get any pics of the passenger side fixed but here are some pics of the install...

Firstly i stripped the interior down, although it can be done without taking out the seats i was doing some other mods at the same time so taking the seats out made it easier for me.

Then went about measuring and cutting the new console to match the old one.

As you can see it took some doing, the passenger side being higher than the UK console and the bulge that fouled the pipes needs a fair bit of cutting. if only there was a way to make that bulge push out the other way the passenger side wouldn't be a problem.

The other thing that made it harder is that the screw points in the side of the console are not in the same place as our console... the UK one has 3 screws (one on drivers side and 2 on the passenger side) where the US one has 4. The passenger side screw on the bulge is much higher than the UK one, it also has a some extra plastic on the back which fouls the water pipe behind it making it stick out into the footwell further (you can see it on the last pic above). I resorted to cutting that off as well and making a new hole for the front screw to help the console sit flush. Il get some pics of how it looks tomorrow.

After i managed to get the console on the car and bolted down, fixed the armrest in place and got it all back together this is how it looked:

I finished off the other mods i was doing (will post a separate thread on it) and got the seats bolted back into place. I didn't get any pics on the wiring of the extra 12V socket although its really straight forward. I opted for the non AUX version since i don't have an Audi stereo, the AUX wouldn't plug into my Pioneer unit so i will be working on a custom fitting that will work with the pioneer unit.

By the time i was done it got pretty late and almost time to break my fast... il get some more pics of the completed install tomorrow in proper daylight. hope you all like it... deffo recommend it!!

If you want the AUX version you will need to replace 8P0 863 387 F 6PS (x1) - 12V supply and cig lighter (without AUX) with 8P0 863 387 G 6PS (x1) - 12V supply and cig lighter and AUX

And get the following:

8K0 973 754 - 4 pin plug for AUX

As promised here is the custom addition that i planned for the AUX...


Since i have a pioneer head unit in the car which amongst all its features has AUX and 2 USB ports i wanted a way to put them into the new console trim and out of the glove box. Whenever the wife wants to plug in her phone she has to leave the glove box door open because the AUX cable is fed into the back of it... there isn't any way to control the phone from the head unit so she leaves it in her lap with the wire hanging out... as I'm sure you lot are all thinking thats ****** annoying!

I looked around online for ages for an OEM looking USB and AUX plug socket, i kept running into the cheap and nasty 2 in one plug things that would stick out like a sort thumb until i found out that VW use a USB and AUX plug in the Passat.
The plug connections on the back of the plug was going to be a problem as they are for the VW head units but i had an idea that i found from someone else trying to do something similar so i ordered the part and also bought a 2m AUX extension cable to reach from the head unit to the trim piece.

It all finally turned up after a couple weeks and i straight away got to work!

As you can see the connectors can just be unclipped from the back, the USB extension cable that comes with the Pioneer 8400 was long enough to reach to the centre console but it was a bit too fat to fit into the USB socket clip so i shaved down the edges with my dremel

I then dismantled the AUX connector and cut the back part off to allow me to pass the AUX extension cable through

the AUX female socket was also too big to fit in so i took the dremel and shaved off 2 sides to make it flat and then fit into the connector piece.

Once i was happy that it all sat nice and tightly i tested it out in the VW plug socket

it sat perfectly and didn't feel like it would come out without a fight so i started measuring up the console trim and then got to work again with my dremel. took a few attempts but eventually i had the cut out i needed and then fitted the new plug into it.

i was happy with how it turned out so back to the car to run the wires under the centre console, plug it all in and test it and then put it all back together. The unit worked perfectly so i put it all back together and here is the finished install.

And also a quick pic of the extra 12v socket i installed into the boot

I missed this question... it wouldn't connect to the RNS-E as it doesn't have a USB input. The Pioneer unit that i have in mine has 2 USB inputs so it works perfectly on mine.

you can get an interface for the rnse to add usb ,as i removed the aux port from the uk centre console and swapped it for the vw golf usb port with the flap on . did find though that the aux port is slightly bigger fitting so had to add a spacer to downsize the cutout

I'm curious, can you delete the useless under armrest cup holders, underneath the sliding shutter flap, without changing to the U.S. Console?

The power socket insert would be more useful, if easily swapped.

Only way i can think of this working without changing over the whole centre console would be to cut the cup holders out.
only thing is I'm not sure if the power socket insert would clip in. on the us centre console version the section under the power sockets is dropped lower and has a clip hole to sit in.
