Ive had a play around with my option codes in my service book today and noticed that I have a different engine than I thought I had(!) It says TDI 2.0 100KW. I always thought my car was slow for what I thought must be the 170BHP car - so can someone please confirm if I have the TDIe engine? I also read somewhere that the TDIe doesn't come with a multitronic box (mine has). Unless this is something Audi added later - mine is 2009. Anyone clarify?

Apparently the TDIe also has 'special spoilers' to reduce drag and comes 20mm lowered? I cannot see any of these things!

The engine code should be on the service book, it should be either 3 or 4 letters, post that up and we should be able to help.

Well it is the 170BHP engine and it is a multitronic gearbox. From what I have read the CAGB is a TDIe engine. The multitronic box is the normal auto box for the 2.0TDI engine even on the latest model the 2.0TDI is either 6 speed manual or multitronic

So my engine is the TDIe?

AFAIK flippantaudi TDie never had any extra aerodynamic kit to make it more fuel efficient. Once a poster said not available as auto then someone found it as an option in one of the downloadable brochures from used car section on Audi uk site, again if memory serve me correct.

Your local dealer via VIN should be able to state what model it is.

Thanks guys, spoke to my local Audi guy - its a TDIe. Kind of explains its lack of power for (what I thought was) a 170BHP engine. Maybe a re-map could be in order....but with a multitronic box that could be a risk?

Another couple of things, I can only find one TDIe C6 multitronic on the whole of the internet with many sources saying they didn't do them? Also all the reviews state that the TDIe engine puts out 139g/km of CO2 so in a really low car tax bracket (Band E). Ive been paying 'Band I' ever since I owned the car which is nearly £100 more. Something seems a bit weird about this to me? Any ideas gents?

The TDie was available with the Multitronic box, however it did not make a particularly attractive proposition as the CO2 rating was almost the same as the car with the 170bhp engine so it made little sense to buy it and there was little or no tax (road of income) benefit either. Your car is an 09 and at that time you got the upgrade to SE trim included at no extra charge and also if you bought a TDie they gave you the DVD Sat Nav for free. So for some that would have been a sufficiently compelling proposition to get a TDie Multitronic. I don't have the 09 brochure to hand but will look it out later and give you the official CO2 numbers for the various options (Audi seems to have removed the versions of the old brochures from the used car part of the website)

Thanks elan2S, that info has gone a long way in answering my questions - really helpful. I haven't owned the car from new, but when I purchased it wasn't marketed as a TDIe just a TDI SE nor does it mention TDIe on my V5C just TDI SE CVT. It would be great to know the official TDIe multitronic CO2 emissions not least to check whether I'm in the correct tax band. Ive had a look myself but cant find anything.

OK. Not sure if you have the saloon or Avant, but for the saloon the CO2 for TDie Auto is 151 vs 153 for the 170bhp TDi and for the Avanty the numbers are 155 vs 154 so the TDie is actually in a higher BIK bracket than the more powerful car and there was only a £900 premium to get the 170 compared to the 136 engine so that will explain why there are so few. By the end of 2009 all A6 SEs and above had the Sat Nav so that advantage went away as well. If I recall correctly when I got my TDie SE which was in May 2009 they actually gave you the SE trim and Sat Nav for free which were both charged for on the 170. As to how the TDie differed from the TDi, apart from the engine the manual car had longer gearing to boost economy, it got the S-Line 20mm drop suspension and the spare wheel was replaced with a tube of gunk and a compressor. There were no aerodynamic tweaks that I am aware of

And thats why I love forums! Thanks elan2s, that totally clears that up. Mine is the avant and it appears I'm paying the right tax after all. Only thing different from what you say is I have a full spare wheel and my car was definitely not lowered (I had to do this myself). The gearing does seem quite long and I do get great MPG. The fact I now have a lowered powered engine than I thought I did is making me think about a remap again. I originally shelved the idea due to all the horror stories around the multitronic, but seeing as I'm running much less torque than I thought I was, maybe its time to reconsider!?
