Ok, so I ordered my car on Tuesday and was pretty much set on what I wanted and why.

I specified the 5 parallel spoke design alloys because my thinking was chrome wing mirrors, chrome around the windows and chrome grill with Sepang would suit the S-Line alloys which are silver/chrome rather than the standard S3 which also has grey on the arms.

I have also gone with Lumar Silver leather to set off the look of the car (I'm confident that my detailer can protect them fine for the 3 yrs I'll have the car). BUT I'm also thinking going black makes things easier and less stressful!!! What do you think?

So, tonight I am passing another dealers who have an S3 sportback in their showroom window in Sepang and with the standard S3 Star design wheels and I really, really like the look. So I am now totally confused as to what to order!

I've looked for pictures of existing cars in Sepang with the standard wheels and there are quite a few, they just don't look at good as when in person. I can't find any with the S-Line alloys. So what would you do. Stick with my original plan or go with what I have seen today and liked. Should I go with the S3 wheel, after all it is an S3 I am ordering not an S-line... arggghh so confused.

I had the same dilemma, in the end I went for the S-line alloys purely because I didn't think much of the standard S3 alloys and to this day I'm glad I went for the S-line. I have seen a couple S3s with the S-line alloy and they all look great! I guess its easier to decide when you see them all in the flesh.

Lovely spec by the way, Had Sepang blue not been an exclusive colour when I ordered my car last year I would have certainly went for that!

I also went with the S-Line wheels as the silver colour really stands out against the Sepang Blue and nicely coordinates with the chrome surrounds.

Have a look at this post which has some views of my S3 with S-Line wheels on the day it arrived at the dealer. I haven't collected yet (details why in that thread).

S3 standard alloys as they are the only S3 model specific alloys, you can get the others on other cars.
I am normally alloy fussy and these wheels are spot on, especially if you have the chrome. My only comment is that had they been available in 19 inch I'd have specced that, but wouldn't have changed the standard S3 alloy, suits the car perfectly and makes it immediately identifiable as a S3.
Chrome on the outer face and dark on the inside is a perfect combination with chrome grill and chrome mirrors.

From the pics in the post above the s line wheels are IMO bland, and on such a nicely coloured car, it would be a great shame to have bland wheels on it.

I shall refrain from commenting on your lunar leather selection.

Couldn't agree more with those comments. The S3 specific alloys really do look very good.

My only criticism of them is that the painted / lacquered inserts seem slightly prone to chips.

First thing, have you thought about a Misano Red or Glacier White, the white in particular suits the S3 and it's such an easy colour to live with.

And wheels, the S3 wheels without a doubt. They set the car off and the S line wheels are a little drab and not common but popular. I had them on my Glacier White (lovely colour that) A3 and the S3 wheels look so much better, especially with red callipers. But of course this is all subjective and very personal.http://cdn.as-static.com/vb/images/styles/AnimatedArena/attach/jpg.gif

By the way the colour of my S3, it's purely coincidental that its the colour I'm suggesting you change.............................

Before any other comments, the big gap between wheel and arch is because its just been lowered off the jack after painting the hubs.

I think you need to consider practicality as well.
Do you kerb your alloys? I say that because the sline wheels will be an easier repair where as the S3 wheels are diamond finished and require more work to bring them back up to scratch.
On my last TT I had diamond cut finish and vowed not to get them again.
But here I am now going with the standard S3 wheels as they look too good.

If I ever foresee needing to parallel park I'll take the wife's A1 instead!

PS How come the 19 wheel option isn't available on the Hatch & Sportback?

& because they won't fit isn't the answer I'm looking for! lol

Going to go and have another look at the local Sepang S3 with the standard wheels and then a call to my dealer, I think. Still swaying about the lunar as I have seen it in person on a Saloon S3 and it looked mint and certainly better than boring black. But sensible head is saying - probably go black just to stop any worry about damage.

I have the standard s3 wheels, on my sepang SB because I thought they looked better, still do IMHO have managed nearly 1200 miles with no scuffs/ damage on them so far. :o.k:
Went with the black leather and Alcantara as I have 2 kids and a dog and expected the lunar silver to show up dirt?. Here's hoping the black doesn't show up to much muck, all ok so far :icon_thumright:

I've gone with the S-Line wheels on my S3 order. Less fussy and cheaper to repair, given the number of times the nearside front has got kerbed on the TTS. Strange since never had a kerbing problem on over 40years of driving until this car - I blame aspect ratos :whistle2:

RS6 alloys are clearly the ones you or anyone else don't want ;-)

I was a bit surprised there was no 19" option and the new standard S3 wheel isn't as well thought out as the rest of the car, but of the bunch available for £0 the standard star one is best, the dark tint on them is a nice finish too. I think the desire to stand out from the usual available alloys on the A3 influences that decision.

Don 76 that looks rather nice !

Not a fan of these in all silver. Look dated these days IMO.
Fair point. So gun metal or black would of complimented my silver rails, wing mirrors, grill, window trim and exhausts better you reckon?

No, either a different, more interesting design if you have to have all silver, or consider a polished edge with dark inside, which would be the best of both worlds.

It's a shame to compromise the looks of the car just to get an extra inch or two.
The standard S3 wheels would look better IMO, even in 18".

Louay, I think the all silver for your car is spot on, as you say they pick up on all the silver trims and dark wheels would not suit at all.
I've ordered all silver for mine too. In fact I'm thinking of getting the standard wheels powder coated all silver for the winter as I hate the grey parts against the blue body!!
You got your springs on yet?

I did consider the standard S3 alloys and if I'd gone for glacier white with black pack and rails they would suit the car perfectly as we have seen. However, going with the now exclusive estoril blue in my opinion the two tone of blue and silver I think works beautifully and adding a third colour with darker S3 wheels would leave them out of contrast and peculiar against the silver and blue so that was my thought process.

On another thread the OP said that the S-Line wheels (CC1) were diamond cut and his alloy wheel insurance didn't cover them. The Audi brochure calls them part-polished so can anyone give a definitive answer on this. I have alloy wheel insurance and it definitely excludes diamond cut.

The CC1 alloys on the face of the spokes are diamond cut.

Yep CC1 has a diamond cut surface on the spokes.

But seeing as you know Cannock so well now, there is actually an excellent diamond cut refurb/repair place in Cannock, google JP Alloys. Highly recommended.

Don't keep rubbing in the bad news LOL! I hope I'll never need them!
