Hi all,

I've just done an egr delete and it was time to put my race pipe on to completely remove the egr valve. When it came to taking it off I was shocked to see the carbon build up.

This was the inside of the valve:

There was also a missive build up in the manifold and in the anti shudder valve. Anyway, I've got it all cleaned up and it runs lovely now!

Going to get the egr mapped out this weekend by Jamie at SP tuning in Hinkley, Leicestershire :)

what do you do with the vac pipe when you delete the egr? do you block it off with a screw or does it plug in somewhere to your race pipe?

Just blocked it off with a screw buddy

Eeeewww

And people can't understand why we take these things off

How much is the mapping out costing? I'm trying to find this out for my A3 as the EGR cooler has had it and going to delete the lot

Hey, do you have any pictures or information on where this part is as i want to take mine off and clean it out!

Many Thanks James

My other compression ignition engine runs on veg to even out my derv addiction :D

Yes there should be loads of pics and steps on removing this with the site search function

On the BKD the EGR is the last component in the air supply to the inlet manifold (under the cover, right at the front of the engine)

The map is costing me £60 which is by far the cheapest I've managed to find.

And for anyone interested in doing this I've outlined the costs of the bits below;

£68.99 from Allard for the Race pipe, blanking plate and new nuts/bolts/washers/gasket - click here
£8.50 from darkside for the EGR Cooler Delete Pipe - click here
£60 for the EGR remap from Jamie at SP Tuning - click here

Here it is mate:

To get if off:

1 - take your engine cover off
2 - Remove the electrical connector on the right hand side
3 - remove the vacuum pipe on the left hand side
4 - remove the two bolts to the pip going to the egr cooler on the right hand side
5 - remove the bottom hose by unclipping the large clip
6 - remove the three allen key bolts from the bottom of the anti shudder valve. This should now be removed and put to one side
7 - remove the three allen key bolts holding the egr valve to the manifold. This can now be removed.

Give it all a really good clean up and do the reverse procedure to replace. Afterwards mine took a lot of cranking to start because of all the crap I disturbed. But now it's running much better. I don't have every bone rattling in my body as I did before whilst sitting at traffic lights! :racer:

Thanks for the costs, I already had the darkside delete pipe coming before I saw the Allard one which is about 20 quid less. Do you only need the one blanking plate then if removing the cooler too? I followed a PDF guide and it looked like you may need 2? I've ordered the straight hose coupler from Audi in with another parts order.

The only price I've got is from darkside ATM for an EGR code out and they want £145! It's twice as far to Leicester but I think even with the extra £30 of fuel it would be cheaper!

I got darkside delete heres what mine looks like, bit of a show off lol

Yeah it is, catches lots more oil when running hybrid turbo and more power

I'm selling a brand new Allard delete kit if anybody is interested?

My cooler leaks a bit and this morning I fault scanned and my EGR valve is faulting now, looks like I've got these bits ordered right on time. I emailed Jamie and will be making the drive over to Leicester for him to map it out for me, even at the further distance it will be less than my "local" (at like 60 miles away) darkside.

Ahh glad you got it booked in okay! When are you going may I ask? :)

Just a quick update people. Jamie @ SP Tuning mapped the egr out no problem. He also did a performance map on it for me too! It's now running safely at 185bhp with 460nm torque :) I highly recommend him to anyone that want's work doing!

Need to pull the EGR out from my engine bay. Never got around to doing it, scared it might look worse than the EGR in the first post.
Thanks for the info on how to do it OP.

What induction box is that, and does it make much of a difference for a diesel engine. Am new to all things diesel, been driving hothatchs for years and dont really no that much about diesel engines, sorry if i sound like a mong lol

What did it cost ?

Did you have any issue with the way it drove before getting coded out? It drove fine before I did the delete but afterwards the turbo is laggy as, it's flat as a fart until about 2500rpm then sets off like a train. I've gone away for the week so didn't have time to try and fault find and parked it in my garages car park Sunday night so they can take a look at it to see what's up

Only £225 for the full remap including EGR delete! And when I removed mine it ran fine, a bit smoother to be honest. As for the flat spot, mine always had that until I hit about 3000rpm. But the flat spot has now been removed and I've seen a good 40bhp difference pull at that rpm. Well worth getting done - I'm so impressed by it! :) Once I save up enough for a hybrid turbo I'm going back for a stage 2 map - but he didn't recommend running this with the standard turbo as it would kill it off pretty quickly!

Maybe I'll have a word with him, I'm not really bothered about more power tbh would just like it optimised, like mapping out all the flat spots etc

When I say flat spot, it's a massive hole as in nothing below 2500rpm, no characteristic TDI pull from 1500rpm

Might give him a ring when I get back and see what he thinks if I have this issue still, just weird it wasn't there before the delete

Just seen him today and my car had a map on it already, from the sounds of it one written by a complete ******, I asked him to revert it to stock and write me a new one. The new map drives much nicer, the car only makes 165hp and 420nm, about 160 and 400nm on the old map, compared to your big numbers but my engine is 50% more used than yours too lol. I said I would be happy if it just made the same power anyway as it will do for me with the power it had. Either way I was never after a power figure I wanted it to drive nicer as it was peaky as buggery before. It feels way nicer now and even though it makes the same power it did before it feels faster, keener and feels to pull harder. And EGR deleted now too.

So while a bigger number would always have been nice, I'm happy with what it is now and know it's got a safe map on as opposed to SETTING THE TORQUE LIMIT TO 650nm AND THE BOOST LIMIT TO 350% !!!!!! Like the ****** map had.

It's quite scary what people will pay another person to do to their cars... So glad you got it all sorted out though! :icon_thumright:
