Jardo's 'Journey to quattro' - My Story...

Oh yes!!!!

This clutch is fantastic, so light and smooth but a nice grabby feel.

Happy happy happy boy!

Well, after multiple break downs I have got to Hastings.

The bleed block that creation sent through didn't fit properly, because all of the anodising is far too thick and it didn't push over the cylinder or clutch pipe.

The original reason for buying the Creation block was because my clips were broken, and it was going to cost me £15 in fuel to go to TPS to buy new ones, so I bought the bleed block.

So dad used the new clips from the creation Motorsport bleed
Block on the old plastic bleed block.

Dad clipped it all together, gave it a bleed up and it all drove done and lovely.

I got 70 miles to hastings and to the A21 where the road gets fun; first time I stepped on the clutch with any gusto the pedal went to the floor and stayed there.

The bleed block had slipped off the slave, but not enough to lose any fluid or gain and air.

Pushed it back on with the clip removed, reaced the clip and carried on. All fine.

But eventually the clip just wasn't holding it, and as t got soaked in fluid eventually I lost all clutch.

So I crawled to my aunties house in third.

I spent the night gently working the anodising off the creation bleed block and gently pushing it into the old slave cylinder to make sure it will fit in the morning when I attempt to change the bleed block and rebelled it myself.

The new clips are obviously a bit larger and don't fully clamp the bleed block to the slave cylinder, so my options to work with what I have are to try and fit the bleed block and make it all work, or try to modify the clips to fit the old bleed block.

As the clips are weak, and the bleed block is a big chunk of ally, I will try and rectify the bleed block before touching the clips.

Shame, it was all going really well.

A small and overcome able setback. But a setback none the less.

Ps I'm drunk which is why none of that is making sense or spelt properly.

Sooo, the bleeder block keeps sliding off the slave cylinder, no clutch and can't bleed it.

Luckily my dad's driving three hours to Hastings to fix it.

Deffo more than a few beer tokens for the old man! Is he coming with a new bleed block and clips?

Well lads.

Almost a month after the clutch first slipped and I took it off the road, after multiple breakdowns and little issues that I had overlooked it is all good now.

So the clutch bleeding block related drama is all sorted, anybody who has seen one of these bleeding blocks will know that the clips are rather specific. Unfortunately the CM bleeding block I purchased wasn't right, it's just too thick to go between the gearbox casing and the starter motor. Very poor design.

I ground it down and filed it as much as I could to try and fit it but in the end I just threw it in the box and gave up wth it.

The anodising was so thick it didn't push over the slave, it really was terribly designed. So I spent all night working that on.

But ultimately couldn't get it to work.

Because the clips weren't quite tight enough or to the right design when I pushed the clutch pedal the bleeder block just slid off the end of the slave cylinder.

Ordered a complete new block with clips in the end.

Dad came all the way to Hastings to help me find a way to secure the bleeding block and pressure bleed the system then give everything a spanner check before heading home.

Lots of zip ties later, the block was secure enough to drive home with no clip.

Limped it to work for two days whilst I waited for the new block to arrive.

Replaced the clips, and it's perfect now.

Gave the car a clean, after three weeks outside a dusty workshop and a drive to Hastings late at night it was FILTHY.

Then went on a mini shopping spree to celebrate everything being back together.

Ordered a steering wheel boss and a 320mm steering wheel, a load of interior trim bits a Halfords Pro 100 odd piece tool kit, loads of track day related bits and pieces.

My Club GTI membership came through so I can go to the Sprint Day. All is good!

The clutch feels great, I would recommend t to everyone. I've got 400 miles on it now and t feels very strong, I haven't launched it yet but I will do over the next few weeks.

There is a little bit of judder in reverse by otherwise it feels like standard. It's very light and the engagement is very quick.

All in all I am very pleased to have it back on the road.

Next month it is getting new tires, and potentially some tasteful buckets and the back stripping out. I've had the back seats out of it this week because I am moving house, and I haven't missed them at all.

Rods are the next thing on the list, I may buy them next month and take the car off the road for two weeks in October and have a bit of a rebuild. I can't see me selling this any time soon now, it's cost me too much already.

I am trying to talk Prawn into helping me fit this boost switch for the meth so that I can get that up and running.

Car looks immaculate as usual. Glad your happy with the clutch, i wish more people would use the CG motor-sports clutch. Im very happy with mine and agree its very light. What rods are you going for? IE? will be good to see how it manages the sprint day.

Thanks man, much appreciated.

The clutch is great, very happy with it. Thanks for the recommendation.

Went for a bit of a drive yesterday, pulled over to take some pictures of my car and some dodgy looking race car build was in the background.

Went for a nice drive with the guy who owned it, he was a nice enough chap.

On the way home I discovered one of the best reasons to keep the Recaros for now.

Decided I want meth again, fed up with it not working.

Its a right mess...

Boo.

The engine bay is also a bit slack, all the boost hoses were finger tight. Managed to get 3 or 4 turns out of every boost hose clip, two clips were broken...it's a lot nicer to drive now, smoother, more torque, more power.

Which means...

500 miles on the clutch, time for a launch.

Steering boss is here, Nardi wheel is on the way. Just want to get paid at the end of this month to buy some 595's and get rid of these poop brakes.

Why do you say its slow i think that looked good??
We should have a burn, make you appreciate what you have lol

So gutted.

I have been wanting to do a certain track day at Goodwood for a year now, ever since Prawn and I stopped in on our way to pick his car up from fitting the 064.

The event was sold out by the time I had read the entry details. So I out my name on the reserve list and forgot all about it. Knowing nobody would drop out.

Got a PM last night, phoned Prawn this morning, transferred the cash to my main bank account. Ran around the house screaming like a school girl with excitement.

Somebody dropped out! Events this Saturday, cars ready to go, WHOPEEEEEEE!!!!

Then realised I will NEVER in a million years pass Goodwoods noise testing.

I am rather gutted as such it looks like I will be buying my way onto the track by means of passenger laps in exchange for photographs. Sandwiches. Cakes. And drinks.

:(

You want one of these :)

What exhaust system is it?

3" straight through with a backbox?

Take it you haven't got the time to modify/quieten your current set up by adding a removable silencer/cat before Saturday then :(

Yeahhh, about the whole backbox situation.

There isn't much in the way of sound deadening in my system.

Thanks Karl, if you were closer I would. :(

Put a stock s3 system on? Cheap as chips, loads of them around.

Would he not lose power ?
Must be cheap enough to throw another box in

Std back box is not restrictive at Jardo's power level...

No way. What do they handle then?
Problem solved!!

To be fair, mine was backed down to 290bhp with no meth.

It is an odd specification, relentless manifold, 3" downpipe and a cat, big IC, no meth when it was mapped.

Anyway, a standard back box will happen soon. I may open it and gut it a little first.

Yeh but , what about Saturday ? Get a standard one by then or just be a passenger ?

If he uses the exhaust as an excuse then he gets out of having to actually do something and go on track and show himself up

Very clever jardo, good form :racer:

Roll on Saturday! (Not literally, one hopes!)

Then never do them."

cars looking good fella, nice video.... my s3's also always breaking... i have a ridiculous list in just a year! tomorrow the crank sensor and clutch master is being done, done the turbo myself, brake calliper just decided it would leak, power steering pump, blocked pickup, coilpack, boost issues, dodgy earths, split pipes.. its jinxed im sure.

290 bhp hmmm same spec as me (in my sig) when mapped but 10bhp more\/\/\/\/? is it amd mapped as on the instruments or custom?

The AMD sticker is a joke, it was mapped by AMD once though.

It's been mapped by R Tech and AMD and I don't know which one is current, I assume R Tech because of the launch control.

Shame you have had so many problems, but I think it's just the way of the world.

When you say the same spec as mine, do you have a relentless manifold? That's the big key. And was your car mapped again after it was fitted? Your sig shows what should be 290bhp.

Yeah v3 relentless. I was mapped with all the mods and the torque figure is way down at 263!? I think when I get a spare few quid I will go custom.

Well that's your problem, no staged map will account for those mods.

I'd be worried. Personally.

Yeah v3 relentless. I was mapped with all the mods and the torque figure is way down at 263!? I think when I get a spare few quid I will go custom.

Mines ran over 270 lb-ft of torque on 3 sets of rollers. Get a custom map done, could be a slightly tired turbo too.

turbo was a new chinese jobbie in 2011 then it was ported by bill at badger 5, i dunno. done a few miles i guess. maybe due a new maf too. sorry jardo...

so when the meths sorted should that push you over 300bhp? some of the boys at the retro show swear by it? do you then have to run two maps for when its on and off or does the car adapt?

Well fingers crossed everything goes well for you :) Keep it up to date and it should be ok.

Ref meth, mine was never mapped for math and as it's never had it working properly I doubt it will know what to do when it gets it.

On the plus side, I don't want any more power. So the meth is only going to be there too add reliability, consistency and flames.

I know it's so slow. Slower than a slow thing on a slow burning slow day.
