Day out doing the 1/4 mile run!

Hi everyone

Had a good day at Crail on Sunday, running solid high 12's fastest time being 12.61.. all I can say is wow the 4wd off the line is second to none! It was Banzai day and the S3 was the fastest Non-Banzai motor there 5th overall on the day only beaten by 2 Crazy race cars that aren't road legal and 2 Nissan GTR's



So, just wondering if anyone else has done a 1/4 Mile run in their S3 and what times they were getting?

4wd is the business on 1/4 mile days. crail gets a bit of stick for not being a 'proper' 1/4mile track good day out though as long as theres no bam's there.

I wouldn't mind maybe one day having a bash if someone else was covering the gearbox and transmission costs on mine!

That's the reason I stay clear of drag runs knowing how easy it would be to wreck the box on mine so I'll stick to rolling starts!

I was browsing via Tapatalk and therefore could not see Liam's mods, but I do see them now.

The mods I had at the time were: ITG intake, 76mm custom Downpipe, Autotech H.P.F.P & Revo stage 2+.

The time was run at ODI raceway in Gauteng, South africa, which is +/- 1400 metres above sea level.

I have since then sold the car (manual) and purchased an S-tronic.

The fastest S3 (standard turbo) I have seen locally runs a 12.2 second quarter mile and has a lot more hardware.

12.2 on the standard turbo is amazing! The S-Tronic box is just insane on the drag strip, just lost out to a GTR by milliseconds here's a little video, sorry for the potato quality something happened when I uploaded it and the encoding went weird

That looks blistering fast Liam!

S-tronic box is indeed lightning quick especially on the drag strip.
If you want to lower your times i suggest you flash (add aftermarket DSG software) the gearbox, the flash enables you to increase the launch rpm and its quicker between the gears. Will definately take a few seconds of your Q.M time.

Ps. My current S3 is also 8P3, S-tronic with 2 doors and its also white.

Yeah i'm going to get the DSG Map in the next few weeks to get quicker launches and shifts!

Great performance that car is a bit of a giant killer. Can't believe that with the time I ran the other week at Santa Pod I would have been an easy third with a 13.36 103mph in my diesel estate. I have quattro but have to change gears the old fashioned way.

Little update on this thread, went to another 1/4 Mile day but this time done a few runs with no passengers just to see what I could get and the car ran a 12.2 which is insane! Chuffed

Yup! Tweaked the DSG Launch Control, It launches from 4k Revs rather than the Standard 3k, seems to have made a little difference! Oh the S3 above me is the new 2014 S3 with just a Map! Apparently it's much lighter! Think that's next to do on my list is to lose weight on the car haha!!

Yeah, that's me bud, its just running a tuning box at the moment as there are no maps available on the 8V platform yet.

8V S3 (DSG) is 1415kg, 8P S3 (DSG) is 1475kg so not massive amounts in it I suppose but yeah the newer cars have the advantage weight wise.

Ahhh! That's right Tuning Box, that's the word I was looking for haha! Yeah once the proper maps and hardware come out for the 8V S3 they are going to be ballistic to say the least! Especially the DSG one's like yours! I Might attend the Ford day in 2 weeks with the back seats out and see what else I can shed, see if I can break into them high 11's

It is possible! DSG + AWD = Magic. We have two 8P S3s in Australia doing 11.6/11.7 1/4mile in the last few months.

Get your S3 out to the strip and have some fun.

Well done OP, not too long now till an 11.9.

Didn't realise 8V is so light. An 11 second car with just a stage 1? The first gen Gallardo needs 12.3s for the quarter mile.

Haha yup, the faces on the Evo and Subaru boys running 400-500hp are priceless! Also nice to be beating cars that cost 6 figure sums.
