Hid's as fog lights

Anyone done this?

Tested some when I changed my bulbs over in the fogs but could only get one side to work. Guy doing the fitting said the newer audis and Mercedes don't like hids very much.

Wouldnt mind some yellow hid fogs if I knew there was a way around but don't wanna buy them and not have them work.

Also wondered if hids in the fogs would blind people similar to when people put them in standard reflectors or would the fog light angle keep that ok? Not worth my time if I'm just annoying other motorists

Having your fog lights on at all in any situation that isn't thick fog is annoying other motorists already (and against the law)... and when it is foggy, I'm sure people aren't really going to get a chance to look at what kind of light you have in there!

They wouldn't be used when there's no fog, except maybe at a show or something but I just like the look of the yellow light.
Most of the yellow bulbs I've seen in the past always seem to be pretty dull though, hence the hid idea.

I'd suspect they would as surely the fogs use a reflector like normal halogen headlights do?

People putting HID bulbs in standard reflector housings is a scourge and needs cracking down on. Not only do they end up blinding everyone as the light goes everywhere but the perpetrators are the only ones who think they look cool, everyone else thinks they're morons

I had a feeling that would be the case.

I've always liked hids but never used them. Until earlier this year I'd never had someone drive past me with them in standard reflectors. Absolute nightmare, had 2 headlights burned into my vision for the rest of my journey.




Anyone recommend a good yellow fog bulb if anyone uses them?

I wanted my fogs to match the colour of the DRLs. I didn't like how when you lock/unlock, there is a colour mismatch when the lights come on.

I bought these and they are pretty good. I dont use fogs when normal driving, and seldom ever drive on the fog

That's what I'm using at the minute, or something similar anyway. Had a day of fog recently though and they make no difference what so ever ha.
That's why thinking proper yellow. I like the look of yellow fogs but I don't want to buy yellow bulbs and have the same issues of poor light output. Never bought yellow bulbs before so have no idea how they would look in terms of output

Not sure how valid this is but I put yellow Lamin-X film over the fog lights on my Mk2 FL Leon Cupra. The car was white with gloss black accents and the touch of yellow was a nice little contrast. It also had the added benefit of protecting the lenses from road- rash too

Never drive round with the fog lights on though, people will assume you're a boy-racer...

Ha, I'm no boy racer. I like the idea of having coloured fogs for show use but then that deems them useless on the road. Rather not just incase

I just want my fogs to match my Xenons. It looks rubbish having yellowish Halogens when I open my car, plus my fogs are only ever used for adaptive headlights, I can't control that.
