I think when it comes to McQueens car, as it is unlikely you will get it to go with your watch, you should just send your watch to me as I wouldn't need the car to go with it so would not feel like it was missfrm my life :)

The things you buy because you ended up watching a film once too often in your childhood! The closest thing I'll ever own to the McQueen outfit in the Le Mans film!

Niiiiice, I actually owned a TH Monaco for all of ten minutes a few years ago while on a cruise, unfortunately, when I got it to the room and looked it over a little more closely, it had some bad scratches and gouges in the case so I returned it. (The discount offered for the damage was not enough to warrant keeping it)

I still have a couple of nice watches though (Speedy was sold last year to fund other things :( )

OMG ....... I cannot believe we have got onto the subject of watches now :o.k:

In addition to cars, watches are one of my passions too :)

I have a Breitling myself and have just sold a u-boat in readiness for buying another ling.

Daytona ... very nice Avenger

Question - how do you find the ocean racer rubber strap and deployment buckle.

I am torn at the moment between a leather strap or a rubber strap - but I really like the fancy deployment fastening which I see you have on your watch and this (like a metal straps) means its made to measure and fastens quickly and easily - and does not wear at the fastening like say a leather tang type does - so interested to hear your thoughts on this mate.

Love the Monaco Gulf Warren ... awesome :icon_thumright:

Inked you have great taste too and a very nice selection

One final question for everyone ....

What do people think of black steel watches - I am undecided at the moment ....

Hey, good to be able to tell my wife Im not the only watch mentalist!

Lovely Omega's Inked, I have a gold Omega De Ville (circa 1978) left to me by my now deceased Grandfather and the man that got me into watches.

I did have a Breitling Navitimer 1964 which was my old man's but I ended up selling it to the head of the UK Breitling Forum during some difficult times in the late 90's. Regret that to this day.

I know have TAG F1 chrono for day to day, a Series 2000 Auto Chrono in black for weekends, and the Monaco for special occasions! I then have a nasty habit of collecting Casio G-Shock special editions but the wife has stepped in on the recently and Ive paired that collection back :bye:

As for the back steel, I'm not so sure it will stand the test of time. I think it's quite of the now. Do love a chunky Breitling. On the strap front, I have croc on the Monaco and considering it doesn't get warn much it doesn't seem to stand up that well. I think if you wear it daily go rubber, whereas if it's a limited use watch chance the leather.

Good to see not everyone goes to the typical default Rolex choice. I was going to get a Deep Sea than became bored of seeing the GMT's and submariners on everyone's wrist, so when the Monaco came up it was a no brainer.

Hmmm .... that was my concern on the black steel mate - will it date / will the novelty wear off with me ???

The new watch I am considering will not be a daily wear - more for weekends, but I am conscious of the wear around the tang.
Although that said, I can soon get a new one - or switch to a rubber strap down the line, if it does wear quickly.
I have a metal strap now and want a different look on my new watch.
The rubber does appeal though and think I am leaning towards that at the moment.

Snake its actually the Super Avenger which i purchased on a metal bracelet after selling a Hercules because i wanted to be able to change straps which on the Hercules you can't do.The Ocean racer strap is so comfortable and doesn't sweat in hot weather, there is also micro adjustment on the deployant clasp via a sliding mechanism .Perhaps we should start a Watch topic here on the S5 section.

The rubber strap certainly seams to get favorable comments from what I've seen.

There are 3 types of rubber strap available so next question for me is which one :)

PS: Sorry Warren ... so this is now way out of sync with your build thread ... maybe you could move it out into a new thread ?

Warren can you move the Watch related stuff to a new topic please.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading through your anticipation and build threads, Warren, and now am immensely happy to see another interest of mine coming up on this cracking forum! Lovely watches Gents, I'm an Omega man myself so loving Inked's collection!
All in all it's been a good year. Qualified as an Officer in the Merchant Navy around my 21st bday last year so treated myself to a Seamaster and then picked up my S5 last month! Question is... Where next??

You could give me your s5 and go and buy yourself a r8?

nope?

worth a shot.

Bahaha, i think i'd like a bit more than a month's use of the car first ;) Sorry to say! Saw a lovely R8 at Portsmouth Audi yesterday and got me thinking...:sly: one day... Wouldn't be in the family's good books - my brother visited me when i came home from sea to find me in his dream car (S5) and my Dad's dream car is the R8 so i think they'd kill me... A way off affording that yet though!

Hookers and a cocaine habit

Funny you should mention - my company sends me to Amsterdam for training... a cruel, cruel thing to do when we are regularly drug's tested for our job... not that i would anyway :rulez:

TO bring it back on topic, however, I have a number of watches on the shortlist for next purchase after trying some around the Caribbean last I was at sea...Any experience/thoughts on the following?
- Breitling SuperOcean / Aerospace Evo / Emergency(one day!)
- Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean - fell in love with this watch years ago and it gets better and better, the latest iteration being my favourite! Get the feeling i'll say that again next year!
- Mont Blanc UTC (potentially controversial).

ok fella well I can help you out on a few of those :)

My current daily watch is a Breitling Aerospace which I have had for the last 5 years and still think its great.
As a daily wearer it is perfect - light weight (being titanium) not bulky so fits nicely under shirt cuffs, looks cool, works with casual or dress so can't recommend this (or the Emergency) enough it is fab.
The Aerospace is super quartz by the way and the accuracy is phenominal.
Battery lasted just over 4 years which I thought was pretty good and its great not having to set the watch like a mechanical.
This is the version I have ...

In terms of the Breitling Super Ocean, it is the 44mm diameter with yellow highlights which I am currently pondering.
I want something that is totally different to my aerospace and which IS mechanical.
The re-designed Super Ocean line caught my eye a year or so ago and has held my attention since.
Just love the styling and proportions.
Pics as above.

There is another contender however which is the avenger seawolf.
Similar in size but a shade bigger @ 45mm diameter and a tad chunkier.
Again just love the styling and layout of this watch which is very neat.
As I have a metal strap on the Aero I am likely to go rubber on the new watch and again think the seawolf looks great with a rubber strap ...

As for your other choices well I TOTALLY respect the Omega planet ocean - that is a really classy looking watch and also a model which has caught my eye a fair few times - that would be a stunner for sure.

Not familiar with the MB UTC would need to check that out.

Otherwise for me, I keep pondering one of these but the cost always gets the better of me and never too sure if they are too flash or not ...

plenty of pammy's on show here :)

Well a quick hello, I'm a watch man myself and have been collecting watches for a while although only just started with quality time pieces, I have about 30 of which 5 or 6 are worth mentioning. With two more on the way, one special edition aerospace watch due for delivery in October and the other being a bespoke watch made for the lads in my unit. Until then here's my contribution with my tag being the daily work horse. Uploadfromtaptalk1404579871105Uploadfromtaptalk1404579882414Uploadfromtaptalk1404579895999Uploadfromtaptalk1404579903501Uploadfromtaptalk1404579912880 I have a second watch box but it's still in storage. If ever you need someone to look after your beautiful Le Man edition please don't hesitate to call. In my eyes tag are the best however my top watch the Oris , which I picked as no one else has it yet it's just like my A5 classy yet understated and people in the know appreciate it with out being in your face, bling.

Here are mine :)

Bell and Ross fan ever since I went to Vegas in 2012, I saw one in the window and wanted one.

So I got the square one first, its a Bell and Ross 01-92 Airspeed which is limited edition and is one of 999 made.

Once I got this I saw the other one which looked awesome and is a Bell and Ross vintage 126 Flyback, again this is a limited Run and is one of 500. This has a 43mm Face, the Normal 126 vintage ones are 41mm so is a whole new piece.

Bell & Ross you lucky begger, beautiful, nice choice squire!

P1010016Ball

Mine with crappy pictures tho.

My first good watch was the Tag Link Chrono but rarely wear it now as I've had it over 10 years & it's irreplaceable.

The latest is the Ball. Seems to be one of those brands nobody's heard about...

I have to say, I love the OP's Monaco to look at, but not to wear. Strange one, but it doesn't appeal to me as a watch for some reason.

It is a bit of an odd one, I don't wear it much as I'd rather keep it in good nick, more of a collectable purchase. I prefer something more robust day to day like my 2000 chrono auto or a mighty G-Shock Frogman!

Ah! So its not just me then? ;-)

These are the other two that make up my day to day wear:

But then when I want something a bit more rubbery for sports etc. I dig into the other box (not a very good pic but you get the idea):

My old man always wanted a nice watch but never had one.
Had a liking for Breitlings, & I must have taken home half a dozen fugazi's over the years but they never lasted.

I finally got him a proper Aquaracer chrono for his retirement a few years back.
He a few weeks later, he asked me if it was a fake too as it had stopped!

Needless to say it had been left on the bed side table all week Haha!

Needs a polish up but here it is

That was interesting to read through cheers :icon_thumright:

Omega's were REALLY popular back then weren't they ... and now too - rightly so too !

I really like the new Seamaster Diver Co-Axial but I just wish they did a 45mm diameter case - as 41mm is the biggest .. why ???

Otherwise it is a superb take on the Seamaster.
