My overdue progress/picture thread: Now with Sprint Blue S3 content

Why people never put S3's on fat fives i'll never know

Really like the wheels! But its too low at the back mate. This pic really shows what I mean. Its pretty much identical to my KWs on the front. You just need to match the back to the front now for balance. Are the fronts down as far as they will go??

Looks awesome on them mate! Just need some tyre gel on.... :p How you finding it been so low? Any rubbing issues?

Well, I'll just say I haven't really set up the heights at the min.

I think the ultralows are going to have to come off again as it's currently on ap rears and h&r fronts.

I had the front matching the rear but couldn't go anywhere with it, and the tyres were almost rubbing the arches when turning.

I'm going to have to look at upgrading to air ride if anything as the front looked stunning when it was set to match.

I underestimated slightly how much lower everything hangs on an s3, my a3 could have easily be driven at the height I had it.

In the picture there's probably another 30mm of thread left to go down on the front, it rides insanely well though, 10x more comfy than standard.

I agree the rear needs raising to match the front then it will be sitting perfectly.

The Tarmac in the photo isn't actually level, when it's on level ground it sits much better.

Plenty of time to play with heights anyway and see what's best.

Do not raise the rear, looks perfect other than the front being a little high. Can understand what you mean about not being able to go that low on the front though. It'd be no fun having an S3 if you can't put your foot down every now and again because your worried about something under the car.

looks great with five's on it. but must agree rear should go up a bit to get rid of reverse rake. mine was like that and i raised the rear end twice since then. now i got similar arch gap front and back and it's perfect. and it's much easier to live with..

Yeah I think its comes down to a balance of looks and practicality. With the power an s3 makes I chose practicality no1, but I still think I am low enough. I have just what you have there Smurf on the front and then the same at the back, like others above have also suggested.

I am glad you are happy with the quality of the setup :)

I've had to raise the back, looks better now anyway, never liked reverse rake.

H&R's will be coming off as soon as I can, with 19 speed bumps in my daily drive to work it's a bit too much of a pain.

Only thing I'd be tempted by now is air ride if a set came up second hand at some point.

However, I'd like to put the AP's on the front at some point and use the money to get an air intake and put it towards an exhaust of some sort.

My m8 has 2 front struts brand new for sale if intrested?

Would only need compressor, control and rear bags. When i worked it out think its around a grand then obvs need to fit yourself.

Let me know if intrested i will pm you his number,

Shame about the H&R's but Air is a good compromise if you can get some bargains.

Thanks mate however id be after a full kit ideally although I'm probably going to go to the performance route first then think about air later on when I've run out of stuff to do.

It is a real shame because the H&R's ride so nicely, before it was rough and hard, where as now its silky smooth, theres no way you'd think its on coilovers. It would be nice to get some longer rear adjusters made up so you could get the rear higher on the H&R's as it drops it just a little too much at the rear.

Looking good, nice combo

Thanks mate, i can imagine you are pleased with your bilstiens based on how this rides!

After raising it up yesterday it hardly ever catches now, much better to live with on a daily basis over the mountains that we call speed bumps.

Major picture update, definitely need air ride, but cleaned it and got pictures of it raised

Car is looking sweet, colour looks awesome in the sun.

I still think the rear needs raising a tiny btt more to match the front, the way I judge it is 1 flat hand between the top of the tyre and the edge of the wheel arch.

What makes you want air ride?

Sprint blue is a stunning colour, its something that everyone mentions when they see the car is the colour.

Its actually equal all round, around 3 inchs from the top of the rim to the arch, only slightly under 3" on the front though.

Why air ride?

Well.. if you saw how it looked where i initially had it even before i took the first set of photos you'd see why.

That and the fact they put a modern air ride system up against KW DDC coilovers and a HLS lift kit and the air setup was actually better handling.

Video is here and the article makes good reading:

Coilovers Vs Air Suspension - European Car Magazine

And it could look like this of course

DO IT DO IT DO IT!

Josh's S3 was basically my dream car. Loved it on the white Rota's as well.

Your car looks spot on mate, those wheels suit it so well and it's perfect height now. If I was being picky, I'd do the grill and mirrors in a darker colour for a meaner look

Trouble is, if i did the grill and mirrors dark the wheels would have to go dark, i think the wheels blend with the silver bits on the car.

Anyway, something simple done today, De wiper..

Wiper arm came off easier than i thought it would, mustn't have been used overly much in the past.

They certainly look better than all the other cheap tat people put on like rubber bungs etc.

I was thinking about trying to fill the circle around it with the sealant to try and make the groove flush but didn't want to put too much on in case I ever want to remove it.

Funny you should say that, I noticed that the glass on ours has a chamfered edge on the outside. I didn't put much on mine but we did fill in the gap on the Clio it didn't make much difference probably a good move not doing it.

Nice little addition the wiper blank, might have to get one for mine, it only gets used when I put the car in to reverse when the wipers are on.

Its this feature that drives me up the wall, any slight dust or dirt on the rear window and it smears it everywhere. If i wanted to clear the rear window i would, i don't need a car to decide for me!

As a result, this is no longer a feature.. Therefor i am happy

Not usually a fan or de-wipering A3/S3's but that neatens the back end up nicely.

Nice look, but as a techhy what happens to the motor and water pipe, and does it throw any codes? Oh and how do you spot the fuzz?

Nice look, but as a techhy what happens to the motor and water pipe, and does it throw any codes? Oh and how do you spot the fuzz?

The motor gets removed, and the pipe has a bung with PTFE tape in to stop any water coming through. As far as I'm aware it doesn't throw fault codes.

Well, with a tinted rear window and an automatically dimming interior mirror it's difficult at the best of times in the dark. Anyway, I stay within the law so there's no need to look for "the fuzz" ;)

Nice one, does that come in the kit?

That's why you got an S3 lol

The bung? No, without sounding like a pikey it's simply a self taping screw wraped in PTFE and lightly screwed in.

Actually, I got one because I've always wanted one, power and speed is just a bonus :D

Nice work mate! Liking the rear wiper delete and the rear lights really cleans up and modernizes the look.
Oh and great stance btw on the 5's, good to see something different.

Bought this little lot off a forum member which had never been used, a ceramic coated revo intake, arrived within a few days and fitted in the near enough 30 degree heat yesterday.

The noises that the intake produces is insane, various flutter and darth vader like noises are produced depending on how much you use the loud pedal, i can only imagine what it'll sound like when remapped.

Its now pretty much louder than the standard exhaust when giving it some.
