Time for a build thread....big turbo

Yeah looks decent.

Would love a go of one on the gravel.

Bet they drive superb .

Yes and no...LOL.

I found you had to be totally awake if you know what I mean.....there was nothing soft or forgiving about it,and if you got close to it's limits it got very fidgety and snappy.

It was great fun,but not the easiest thing in the world to drive.

Do you think after a few years in a heavily modified Audi if you returned to one of the Cossies that it would still thrill you, or do you think progress would make the older car feel a bit rough round the edges. I crave a Mk1 or Mk2 Golf GTi and I've regularly been warned by a raft of people to carry on living with the fond memories rather than the hassle!

Hi Warren,

I think in reality that the Escort always rather rough around the edges!

You can get a bit of the hair-cloth feel from this pic....

No heater worth speaking of,although the engine helped,no sound proofing or carpet, and the twin fuel pumps and bolted exhaust for company.

I think a rusty spike would be more comfortable, but the fun of being able to keep up with some pretty big bikes was one thing, and the sheer adrenaline of it was the other.

Wow, I'd forgotten what Ford switch gear was like. Same gear knob as we had in the old mans XR4x4.

You're right, it does look a bit rough, especially when you get used today's standards!

Mmmmmm...yummy leather.

I'll bet it smells better than the Escort did as well.....it always had a good whiff of oil and petrol about it.

I bought it a while after it had been built from a Motorsport shell, and it already had some hard times in the forests to show for it.....when I was cleaning it soon after I bought it,I found a few branches stuck in the wheel arches.

That sounds like the sort of car that I would love to have ...

Something that gets your adrenalin going quickly ..

I love a snappy car hah

My friend has a lovely mk1 running around 270bhp but it's going to have an extra 200bhp and possibly 4wd ..

I love them , I've had a mk2 and loved it ..

Almost bought a mk1 a couple years back which my cousin previously owned when I was a kid, but when I went to see it, the bodywork needed to much work ...

Now that should be a properly scary car when it's finished!

I wish sometimes that I'd had the brains to see what was going to be a future investment, like a Mexico or Lotus Cortina, but never did.

There's still a garage trying to sell a low mileage RS200 for over £120k,but that's daft money for a stock car.

Yeah that will be scary ha

Yeah I love all those old fords ,think I see that rs200 for sale a while back actually but yeah it's to much..

I tell you what is quite scary, my pals 08 plate porsche turbo , he had the engine taken out a few months back and sent to Germany and it come back with a very reliable everyday use 700bhp with 700 torque ( torque figure may be higher)

I know they're are a few 900bhp turbos but as I say , this is a reliable 700bjp car

He actually wants to sell it.

I'll inbox you a pic ..

Eeek.
Will sort it ASAP.

Thanks
!!

Inbox cleared...apologies.

Shouldn't be so popular should you ha

If I looked,I'd only want it,and the S3,and I can't do that.

I've just bought a pile of bits for mine and I have to see how that all goes.....that'll save me from splurging on another car.

Part ex the S3 ? He's had 2 S3's I'm sure he wouldn't mind another one with your sort of power, it would keep him entertained until he finds his next project ..haha

No I'm sure it would be hard for you to part with your S3 after all the work it's had done.

The S3 is like my dog.....it's white(sometimes),and it costs me a fortune.

I couldn't really part with either, and frankly, the car causes me less grief.

You need to get pet insurance ...

Then you can spend even more on the S3 from the money you save on vet bills .. Ha

First thing our vet said when he found what we'd bought, was to get him insured immediately.

So far the beast has cost his insurers around £5k in having bits and pieces that's he's broken up and eaten, removed from his insides.
They are wonderful animals, but whatever fits in the mouth gets swallowed irrespective of whether it's food or not.

He's grown a bit since this was taken, but here's the little darling....

50kgs of muscle, teeth and bone.....and around 2 grams of brain.

****** hell that's a lot of money.

Those dogs worried me the most when I was a kid....and to be honest they still do, also American pitbull's , unless I knew it from the puppy stage, then i'd be ok.

I wanted one from when I was about 13 yrs old......and finally got one.

English Bull Terriers look pretty scary, but are totally unlike the American ones, and nothing close to pitbulls.

It's the sloppiest dog I've ever owned.....doesn't like rain, doesn't like the dark, barks if he's cold and his heater isn't on(yes,he has his own heater),and loves his blankets.

Bonkers.

Haha it's own heater?

A friend has an American Pitt and I've known it since it was puppy , so I've never been worried around it BUT I didn't see it for a couple months and must admit I was a little wary around it when I was alone with it, even though it was playing around most of the time ..

This monster is busy eating my house.

He's not allowed in my car,and has a crate for the other car,as when he was a puppy,I stupidly put him in the hatchback, and he ate the seatbelts.....didn't chew them....ate them.

You must of starved him that day or something haha

That could prove to be expensive having a dog eat away at your house ha

He's like a sort of 4 legged garbage disposal.....luckily we'd had another larger terrier before(an Airedale) so we were sort of prepared.....sort of.

I can imagine he's enthusiastic. My wife demanded that I get her a cat and I've watched the gradual deterioration of my leather sofa, speaker grilles, carpets and soft furnishings (curtains rtc.), so a 'proper' pet like yours could have a field day if left unchecked! My parents Alsatian had a particular love of gear knobs. So many of their cars ended up with aftermarket metal shift knobs!

I have same issue with our cat...had new carpets fitted throughout and the little fecker keeps clawing at it with her nails in certain places and making the carpet go all fluffy.

It actually really gets me angry ..

Hi Alex, do your pistons have deep enough valve pockets to accommodate the additional lift from the stage 3 Cat Cams?

Alex

The cams I'm getting are designed for use with stock pistons although I'm using low compression Wossner pistons in the car.

The lift at TDC is the same as the stock cams but with greater lift and duration otherwise.

Cat do make a few other profiles one of which is designed for 2mm pocketed pistons which to be honeys would probably be OK but firstly wasn't a chance worth taking and secondly would shift the power rather higher than now.

Cosworth engine in a audi that would be interesting ..was done in a bmw :undwech:

Didn't realise how powerful gtx30 turbo set ups were till i saw this vid on youtube

The RS6 weighs nearly 1900kgs and the S3 for instance is a little over 1400kgs.

So....it's quite easy to get a similar power/weight and if mine runs a bit over 500bhp now it's in the right region.

Of course, the RS6 is a lovely car but it's un reliability is one major reason that my car is still waiting to get in for its latest round of parts.
The ramp mine needs has been occupied by a dead RS for some time.

And at last....that RS looks like vacating the ramps soon.

In the meantime,it's maybe just as well it's been there as my new cams have taken longer than expected and still need to be heat-treated,so hopefully ready soon.

The RS6 has finally gone.

Time to get the work done.....head off, valves and cams out,and hopefully the cams I ordered 2 months ago will appear.
