"Statler's A5 Sportback Anticipation and Build thread

Yes you do, well sort of as you say there are the extra LED's around the edge, don't have a picture to hand the one you've found looks like the pre-FL version, I'll try and remember to take a picture next time I'm in the car. On the exterior of the FL it is slightly better hidden, the first is as the photo was taken (a little dark admittedly) and the second is the same picture but lightened so that you can see the difference...

Thanks Shrek, I'd appreciate that. Thanks for the exterior pics as well - you're right it doesn't look as noticeable as the pre-FL. The chrome highlights should hopefully hide it a bit as well.

I quite like the idea of the extra LEDs - it's good to have a visual indicator on the instrument dials like that as the normal cruise control only tells you when you activate/deactivate it.

And lastly: thanks Statler for providing this medium for us to discuss this

No worries guys. That's what these threads are for... Learning!

I'll not have those issues in my 'poverty spec' Black Edition, lol

Ha, thanks. It's funny because by the time I was getting my new one I was keen to change from white, but looking back at it now I think it's probably more striking in white, even in Estoril I think it's subtler than white.

I know EXACTLY what you mean - having had an ibis TT from 2008 to 2011 - suits the audi cars so so much doesn't it.

Guess we can always go back to white in the future and nice to try something new.

If you insist... lol

On another note, I have these H8 cree SMD LED lamps from my e92 halo rings. They're rated at 20w and are very bright.
I had them replaced as the original lamps failed so they are nice shiny and new.

Question is, will they fit the A5 fog lamps as they are H8 and will the gubbins survive in the front bumper cavity as it's likely to be more hostile than the inside of a BMW headlamp?

TIA
H8led

I'd say they be fine, you'll just need to mount the gubbins in with exterior 'no more nails' tape (the red one on the right)

I would question whether the LEDs will be good as fog lights though. I think you're better off buying some new bulbs. Those LEDs aren't likely to be bright enough I don't think.

Thanks Warren, will give it a try if I ever get the car :)

Adam: They are deceptively bright, at least as bright as a 55w halogen bulb. If I can find something to connect them to I'll post a pic.

I don't doubt that they are bright - I doubt that they will be able to reflect properly in the fog light housings to produce a good usable beam of light.

My thoughts too, although with the leds on the round rather than pointing straight forward they may work ok, we'll see, I'm not spending another £70 on LEDs if I can help it, better spent elsewhere on the car :)

I wouldn't suggest replacing them with LEDs - just some 'colour matched' 'Xenon look' bulbs. Cheap and more importantly safe. If you ever need those LED fogs during actual fog, I'm almost certain you'll regret it.

The LED bulbs installed on modern cars as headlights from the factory are very different and much more advanced to these bulbs which have traditional bulb fittings.

Yep I know, just looking at the price of LED 'fog' bulbs that's the impression of price. I've seen the xenon look bulbs in Halfrauds and the like and they're ok and inexpensive so if these don't do I'll go for a set.

Good subject for a mini writeup in the build thread :D

On the foglamp subject still I just went out to check the Jag XF to see what bulbs it has in the fogs and discovered that it doesn't have front fog lamps, bizarre.

I've also discovered that it does have an electric memory steering column, something Warren mentioned for the S5!, in a Luxury spec Jag.

It's really bizarre the equipment levels that are standard and option between manufacturers, for example, the Jag came new three years ago with standard auto box, HDD Satnav, bluetooth streaming, full iP<device> cable input, USB, CD storage on the Nav HDD and was cheaper to buy than an A5 at the time - we looked at the Sportback at that stage but it only had 4 seats.

6 weeks-ish and counting fella, hope you're holding up better than I did ;-)

# Weeks from Order: 12
# Weeks to Delivery: 6-ish ;-)

The -ish got me, lol
Up and down, but the forum is a source of support, a crutch in life, a haven of Audi, ok, I'll stop with the cliche's now.
People in A5 Sportback's keep driving past and reminding me what I'm missing out on but also what I have to look forward to.

Quiet week this week, must check with my wheel repairer an see if he's done. I told him no rush but two weeks is probably too many.

Have been looking at the DTUK tuning box, for the money it looks like a really good option and easily removed for servicing/warranty work.

Direct Line probably won't entertain it so I'll need to check with the Insurance gurus on here once I get the car.

Got a letter from Audi Belfast confirming production and delivery 'mid-August'. The optomist in me thinks this will be w/c 11th Aug which means I should still be on leave but thankfully at home.

Spoke to Adrian Flux about insurance as well. Best to make sure any mods are declared and insured, just need to get the car!

Anyone used the free insurance from Audi when they've picked the car up? As I'll be keeping the Corsa in my name until eldest passes his test, this may save me a few pounds.

Sandra keep the tunes coming, you've still a bit of work to do here ;-) and with any luck we may see you on the 25th July..

always use the Audi free insurance - why not use it ?

Just takes the hassle out of change over time / date for your old car and gives 7 days to set up your new one.

Absolutely take the free insurance, as Snake says just simplifies the handover process. One word of caution - make sure you see the paperwork for it. I heard one story recently of someone assuming they were covered as (I believe) the dealership had told them he would be, didn't see/check the paperwork and sadly the vehicle was stolen before he had arranged his own insurance. Usually the dealer will tell you to call Audi Insurance and quote their dealer ID and I believe all the details then get emailed direct to the dealer.

FWIW I tend to arrange it so that my insurance is in place when I pick up the car but it saves you the hassle of having to get the documents/emails etc to the dealer.

I had a sales person change on my 1st S3 and it was the biggest f*****g PITA I have ever experienced. I don't know how the commission system works but the person who carries the sale through to completion obviously don't get much in the way of reparation as they basically chucked the keys at me and then reneged on a deal I had with the previous sales person to hardwire a TomTom and Snooper. I absolutely panned them at customer feedback questionnaire, and when I got a grovelling call from the dealership afterwards I gave them both barrels. Fingers crossed for you that your dealers is better than mine was. Likelihood is you won't be 'rollin' till September then.

Damn it is annoying when that happens agreed.

The Audi Salesman that sold me both my TT and TTS left last year but he did make sure he handed over my account to another salesman he really rated - and he is a great Guy and ensured my S5 experience was first class start to finish.

The salesman DOES make a difference !

I don't think the salesman has changed, just my sales advisor... Not advising too well, week 28 is next week is it not?

Agreed Snake, but I've just discovered that my salesman is away on holiday around the time I'm picking up the car, so all bodes well then.....

Nothing ever goes to plan does it mate? Week 28 is indeed next week. Possibly he meant week 38... negligence on Belfast Audi's part anyway.

Personally if it was me, I'd be on the phone to the dealership demanding to know whats going on.

Jeeez, week 38 is the middle of September... arrrg
I've dropped her another email, may just ring the Sales Manager after lunch.

Just try not to get too worked up - easier said than done I know.

How do you think I felt when I was told that delivery would not be September 1st as ordered and instead it would be mid November :wtf:

2.5 month delay for me it was :gun2:

The more you think about it, 6 months waiting for a car is pretty crazy really aint it.
