Having now spoken to jb0o, all is now clear and I'm getting it booked in soon :)

Hi everyone,

I've done a search here on the forum and I'm a little confused about the retrofit of cruise control.

I have a 58 plate A3 cab, but it's vin number is a TRU number with model number 9

some info I've read states I can have cruise but I'll need a new steering controller and then I can retro fit, other sources state it is a simple plug & play with programming after the install.

I've also read something about having a white DIS but can't find that info anymore, I have a white DIS and quite a lot of upgrades on the car as it was an ex demo, does anyone have some definitive info of what I need to check to see if it's a plug and play or I'm looking at hundreds of pounds for all the extra bits.

Thanks

My A3 was a MY2009 with white DIS. I fitted cc myself and never needed a module change, so it was simple program with my vcds. If you can scan using vcds this will confirm the module's version number.

I also have a MY09 with white Dis and it didn't need a module change

As said before if you have a MFSW then the module will be compatible for CC. If you dont then 9/10 you'll need a new module.....its not dependant on year either as my 08 plate S3 believe it or not had no CC, no MFSW and no RNSE......basic as a basic thing.

Cheapest option is 2nd hand can get a stalk for £40 and the cowling from Audi for £35 so £75 in total which isn't too bad.

Mark, as you know, I have fitted tons of cruise for guys here and elsewhere. Not having a MFSW does not mean you need a new module. Provided they have a trip computer at minimum, then they will already have a midline module capable of accepting cruise. I would say 9/10 cars have had trip computer as standard.

All facelift A3 8P3 models from 2008 onwards without trip computer or MFSW have the module 1K0 953 549 AH as standard which accepts cruise. This is the reason you did not need a new module.

I would check your local TPS first before buying this kit as thats expensive. Last time I bought one it was about £95

That seller is not expensive TBH, added in with his shipping cost, that is about the right price now from TPS and main dealers, also note that that is the kit for June 2009 onwards. The kit pre this is about £15 cheaper.
Prices have gone up considerably the last month. I have ordered three more kits this week for jobs, but I don't pay them prices as I get a trade discount.

Danny would you be so kind to tell me part numbers for stalk and cover for fitting to my S3 ?

I have MFSW so will fit, is wiring plug already there ?

Need to know year of S3 so can give you correct part number, as 2009 onwards there different. There's no actual wiring involved, once airbag, wheel, slip ring and steering ecu is removed it's matter of removing indicator stalk and fitting new one with cruise then put back together and code via VCDS

Cheers Ash, glad you confirmed that as i found them numbers via Google and ordered them from TPS today for delivery tomorrow!

Just need to fit and get someone to code it in, however that is done!

Thanks!

Where are you based someone on here will be able to do it for you.

Cheers Mark, need cruise and aux-in both done. Will give you a shout once theyre fitted if i cant get someone local.

Think Nigel (NHN) was talking about going up to Scotland to help a few members out in the not too distance future, could drop him a PM.

Not a difficult thing to do yourself though if you follow a guide and have a bit of patience, then all you need is to pay for it coding.
