I'm actually stunned that this car can get by on so little fuel. I've now got 4k miles on it and it's economy just keeps on getting better and better.

My daily commute is a 34 mile round trip. Granted, 10 miles of that is on the A1, but the western bypass through Gateshead and Newcastle isn't exactly a breeze at rush hour. Then there's country roads from my house to the A1 which I like to have a bit of fun on. On the A1 I've started using mostly efficiency mode on the drive select, and dynamic on the twisties or when hoofing it on dual carriageway, which I do quite regularly. This week I've averaged 55mpg. Truly stunning! Far far in excess of my 44mpg on my focus 1.8 tdci

Have you checked it for real in a brim to brim test to make sure the computer isn't just lying to you? I've still yet to do that with mine actually, think I'll give it a go on the next fill up though.

I've yet to try and drive a 184PS model to see what I'm missing out on as well... perhaps that's for the best, though more than happy with the economy and power from the 150 :p

Was going to say that actually. Haven't tested it that way yet. Think I'll brim it tonight and do that

What is your computer reporting?

50 - 53mpg at the moment for my usual commute, which is a rural A road through a few villages (A60, Nottingham -> Loughborough). On a motorway trip if I take it steady I can get 63-65 average for the journey.

I don't pay much attention to fuel economy but that's very impressive figure! Easily 10mpg better than mine. I don't use Economy mode as other posters have said it doesn't seem to make any difference, and of course the Quattro will reduce my figure, but by 20%???

Interesting that you have a different speedo to me. Mine is 'double spaced' up to 40mph, and normal beyond that, which I really like. Perhaps that's because of the ACC? I thought it was on all A3s, but I guess not!

I think that's ACC, it lets you select in 2.5mph increments, then 5mph increments, and so on.

Yeh, though I also notice that the picture posted in another thread on here recently doesn't have the same, it's an S3 though

According to the efficiency programme, my commute to work averages 62-63mpg. I prefer to see the overall mpg per tank of fuel though rather than a trip by trip basis

My 8P 2.0 TDI (140) reports 55 mpg on the DIS but never actually gets better than 45 mpg, normally closer to 40. Is the newer DIS less of a liar?

On a recent trip my 1.4 COD managed around 63mpg on a 'a' road driving at a similar speed to other cars, on the trip computer, and about 55mpg on the motorway driving about 80-85mph. I'm not complaining either...

If I remember I'll make sure I do a proper test on my next tank, and compare it to what the DIS says.

just under 9K miles. Had 58mpg showing on the DIS after a 13 mile drive home. Mostly slow roads, but some fast bits as well.. quite impressed. will do a brim/brim test with the next tank to see how far the DIS is off

140 miles in to a full tank. DIS showing 49mpg. Though it's been in dynamic most of the time since filling it up, and I've been having a bit around on slip roads and what not.

Will calculate true mpg when I refuel.

I reset my [2] computer and trip counter when I last filled up, so I can test it properly. DIS showing ~54mpg at the moment. I'll let you know what it says compared to what I work out it should be!

Out of curiosity when the DIS calculates the theoretical range for a tank of fuel, does it base its calculations on the average mpg from computer 2 (i.e. average of all journeys, not just the most recent as recorded on computer 1? Also what happens if you clear the computers before you fill up (i.e as sitting in the filling station?)

Not sure, didn't pay too much attention to it really.

On previous models it took the average consumption for the last ~30 miles and extrapolated the remaining range based upon remaining fuel in the tank. That metric is not cleared when trip 1 & trip 2 are reset but isn't displayed anyway.

I assume the 8V does something similar.

John.

Decent economy seems possible. Had this from a revent trip to ruislip and back

6000 miles and averaging 43 mpg, that's good enough for me.
