Fuel fault tdi????

My fuel light and beeper came on so i pulled into garage and put £40,upon getting back in the car and turning ignition on the fuel light and beeper were still on and the gauge hasn't gone up.................any ideas guys??
 
Well i thought about the float level in the tank to start with but dont know,sounds feasable i guess...........
 
Not a lot else controls it mate, unless you dials have given up
 
Before you buy a new sender give the bottom of your tank a thump to see if its just stuck.
 
Ran my tank very low once and the sender stuck in that low position. Took a few miles driving before it freed itself. So yeah give the tank a few thumps!
 
Ive thumped the tank and put more fuel in but no joy,dealer part only at £90 so ill try a used one if ican find one!
 
Can anyone recomend a decent audi breakers or another outlet to buy one from?
 
So i got myself a new level sender,ive removed the rear seat to find 2 plates with 3 screws.passenger side has exhaust heat shield and drivers side has top of tank,theres no sender in sight so were the hell is it????

Help guys im stumped
 
Passenger side is for a quattro ie saddle tank has twin sensors.yours will be on the drivers side and the sender will be attached to the fuel pump inside the tank.

I expected to see it under the inspection plate but all there is is the top of the tank.....no sender or pump.....confused
 
Sorry my bad its in the boot under the carpet, inspection plate with 3 crosshead screw's.

Yeh already found it mate but how do i get the full pump out of the tank,doesnt seem to fit through the hole
 
Hi mate, it will fit with the sender fitted its just a bit tight. Is there a long pick up pipe fitted? If so pinch the clips on top of the pump and lift it out of the tank.

Pickup pipe.......there a few pipes lol.
It seems to have a metal bracket type cage on it so its really a bulky thing to extract.
Do i need to remove the top part(the bit where the electric plug and full lines clip on to)its pushes up and down?
 
No don't take it apart ie top and bottom parts.

im going to try again tomorrow,im going to turn it and hopefully it will come out.

Eventually got it out and fitted new sender................Arghhhhh its not worked and still got the fuel beeper and no fuel guage!
£73 and still the same problem is annoying.
 
Uhhh,so now my guage is working (slow to rise but eventually) but the beeper and fuel light telling me to refuel....WTF:wtf:

Next job would be to do a full VCDS scan and an output test on the cluster to test the dials etc before just buying parts that 'might' be faulty.....

Yeh vcds first before buying a cluster is what i meant;)

I have the same problem with my a6. It happens maybe once every 3 or 4 months, but the dial eventually goes up on the same day. Was at a garage 1 time when it happened they couldnt see any faults or find why it was doing it.
 
It appears the guage fault isnt cured but comes on/off intermittently.................borrowed a mates plug in reader,engine/srs,a/t and abs checked but came back with no fault codes..........i would have thought some error coe would have been found.............??
