8V S3 Tuning Thread

I had my DTUK box turn up today and installed it straight away but I think there may be an issue as the car feels absolutely no different, if anything it feels slightly less urgent. Have contacted gnj as I'm sure there is an easy solution, pleased that yours seems to be a big improvement though as hopefully I'll get mine sorted and be enjoying the same sort of pull soon :)

Andrew reminded me that the cam sensor plug is the only one that can connect in reverse. Make sure u connect it the correct way. I had no problem from start to end.

Both the boost plug on the top if the engine and the can shaft sensor can go together upside down 180 degrees.

If it's the crankshaft then the car usually struggles to start.

By all means send some photos over to

Andrew(at) diesel -performance.co.uk and also include photos of the battery connections too

Happy to report I have a brand new 2014 s3 sportback with dtuk box installed.

The pull is drastically increased the torque is now awesome. At 6th gear it used to need kick down but now the Turbo pulls all the way without hesitation up to 145km/h. I only have 500km on the clock its only one its first tank of fuel so I didn't really Rev the car. But initial thots are very positive. Highly recommended for the price compares with mtm or abt.

Glad to read is landed safely Ken :)

Drop me an email once you've ran it for a few miles and I'll talk you through a thing or 2 ;)

Andrew has the pic ask him about it, I just talked to him yesterday. I m Eric in Hong Kong he will remember. Ask him to send u the pic of the cam sensor. The other 2 connections cannot go wrong. Power also.

ive had a customer with a Golf GTI connect the top boost sensor incorrectly, and another customer install the cables to the battery incorrectly which resulted in a blown box :(

Thanks for the reply, I'll take some photos tomorrow and send them across to you.

Interested to see when people have got their teeth into this. 400 horse should surely be achievable with intake, TBE & map. Hopefully ordering a new SB/Saloon soon.

Please do order soon! An a saloon please  Thank you ;)

Anyone here have any insight as to Milltek supply? Is there a shortage? I've had an order for a downpipe through my tuner for almost a month now, and they claim it hasn't even been manufactured yet.

Bit annoyed here now.

Looks like I found an answer to my own question haha. Friend has a dealer login.

Stock in hand of part MSAU616 (Large-bore Downpipe with 200 CPSI Cat): -3

Seems as though Milltek does batch runs depending on order volume.

That's a bummer might have a long wait!!

Are you any closer to fitting your springs Con? Looking forward to seeing pics before I order

Yeah bit annoying to say the least. You think they'd tell you it's going to be a two month wait before placing an order. I'd have gone Supersprint, despite the price. Not really happy right now. Here's hoping their DP doesn't have the same fitment issues encountered on the 8P.

I'm going to do it all in one go unfortunately, so the springs won't go on until I get all the parts, as I only want to drop the car off once to my tuner. So probably won't be another month or so!

Good call Ash, do it N8!

:lmfao: I'm not quite sure what's going to happen car wise atm. I do LOVE the S3 saloon, but if I order now won't come till Jan 2015. I may end up getting an SQ5 or a may end up with a diesel again! We shall see :whistle2:

Why is a Stage II remap stipulated by Milltek for the full HI-Flow cat system?

Do they mean the map just needs to be adaptive? Wondering if the system works with my MTM Cantronic. Not fancying paying £3k for the MTM exhaust :)

Hi everyone, just joined the forum after few weeks of reading this thread because i have an s3 sedan arriving here in Madrid on early September. The thing is that I already bought a DTUK FSR system for the car as I was expecting the car to arrive mid this month (got screwed at the dealer with delays). I have a couple of questions for those who have installed this box that I would really appreciate to have some feedback from. Thanks in advance.

1. Is it impossible to access the plug that's on on the lower left side of the engine without lifting the car?

2. If you do have to lift the car, are there any aerodynamic plastic covers that have to be removed in order to access this plug?

3. How does the power delivery feel compared to factory?, specially interested to know if it introduces any lag or and if the turbo takes longer to spool

4. Does the drive select remain intact?

5. Sorry last question for any S3 8v owner. Can you freaking have the oil temp be displayed constantly on the dash¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ or anywhere?
Just had a B7 RS4 and find it very useful when thrashing the car amongst the plenty mountain twists near my house. Thanksss

1) you can't access the plug from the top as access is restricted

2) there is a plastic tray that needs to be removed to access the plug

3) I'll let others reply to this

4) drive select isn't affected at all

It's FSR from immaculate as Jens not been anywhere near it due to being pregnant :)

It maybe going as she's had a rough time giving birth I'm using the amarok as it's better suited to running about with the kids etc :(

I should be back to work full time by the end of the month so feel free to pop up and I'll take you for a blast out in it

5) Yes you can enable it in VCDS.

Well, i looked into MTM cantronic a month ago and the dealer there told me that he woulnt recommend fitting any TBE with the box as they had bad results while trying themselves. He then persuaded me saying that it might get a fix in the future. It didn't sound too convincing if you ask me. By the way the way I ended up buying DTUK cause i freaked out a little with the ECU drilling part and the cost was not an issue either, so the stage 2 problem was not within my decision. If I were you I would stick to the box alone as 380 hp is a SERIOUS!!! gain for a stage 1. Don't care about the dyno it was rolled on or the corrections that were made but the fact is that your car made 380 hp from 301 hp on the same Dyno. If I were guaranteed this I would have gone for MTM instead, even if it meant carrying the anti tamper cage on my f....ng pocket. :)

Well yeah, I was just after something that sounded like Geefunk's! Maybe catback non-res with black tips!

If you are only looking into catback then you will be fine. have heard full TBE milltek non res a week ago here in madrid and it sounds loud compared to stock. Not my cup of tea as the non-res for a daily driver can get intrusive. another issue for me is that the noise it produces doesn't really suit the premium and slick look of this car. Had a decat exhaust on a subaru sti 2 years ago which sounded like earth was swallowing its creatures into oblivion, but hell i was rolling on gold wheels anyway so who cares hahaha.
If you go only go for the non-res catback im guessing you would be much better off though. This is what the A45 amg comes with when you select the optional exhaust mercedes offers and it sounds more civilized and the tune is better suited for these german machines.
If you want to go bonkers and have every s3 8v owner crave your machine i would definitely go for full supersprint TWINPIPE system. I think they offer black tips too and got a quote of 6000 euro here, that's 4800£ for you and remember no duty tax these days thanks to EU.
Ordered lost of things from UK lately due to a declined pound

Thanks. Very nice to hear that. I was wondering why people weren't complaining about not seeing any temps on an S3.

Or if you don't want to mess with VCDS, select laptimer on the computer display, that also shows oil temp.

By the way - can anyone tell me what the normal operating pil temp range is for the s3? I was tootling around the other day and it hovering around 110c. I thought that was high.

Thanks for the tip. Don't have my s3 yet but judging from the b7 rs4 i just owned... it would stabilize around 96 during winter and easily get to 100 during summer. 110 was easy to reach with not much right foot and would go to the high 120s when gunning it so I dont think those are high temps mickv. you shouldn't worry too much unless it reaches that temp on idle or smooth cruising. judging from some video a saw of a new golf R, the temps seem to be in pair with the rs4 so there you go.

Mine seems to settle at 110 too without even booting it much

Thanks. Ill be in contact when fitting comes with you guys to avoid wrong connecting. Did you hear back from dolbys3. I would like to know what he did wrong to avoid doing so.

Same here. My previous car (Nissan GTR) operated around the 90c mark unless pressing on and very rarely axceeded about 105 on the road. 115-120 was the preserve of track driving. I just kind of assumed all engines were similar, but obviously not.

Noticed my running at 105 where as the TTRS used to run at around 98 and after booting it about 103.

I double checked all of my connectors and everything was in the right way round, what I found was that after around 40 miles of driving with the box connected the car started to get stronger and stronger, I don't know why this happened but the car pulls far harder now, I was really disappointed initially but very pleased now :)

Maybe it was the low mileage of your car?. I wouldn't want this to happen to my car. Dont want to be dissapointed the moment I plug the device. It wrecks the experience a little for me. By the way how was the installation. was it quick, easy, would you be too worried if your car blew when going for a trip and had to dismount the box before going through warranty?.

Yeah that's what I put it down to, I'll do some time runs soon and see what its doing. Yeah I have to admit I was really gutted when I first went out for a drive, all good now though. Fitting is really, really easy, as long as you have the right tools with you it could be removed on the roadside within 5-10 minutes.

Got to be honest mine does sound like an endurance racer, which I guess most people with an S3 won't want. For me I don't do any miles hardly so not bothered. Also can't get bored of scaring the s**t out of people when they're at the side of the road and I upshift. #child

from the vids you posted, yours sounds exactly what im looking for, especially when idling and upshifting! I cycle everywhere and get the Metro to work so milage is minimal for me! i only use the car to terrorise the general public so the bigger the pops the better :)

Well now you guys tell me the vibe you have in mind for your cars i find it much more senseful. Non-res is perfect to terrorize the hood and have to admit it was very exilirating/adictve to do so with the decat sti. If I were you Geefunk, I would be looking into a good intake to get some darthvader sound to accompany that non-res crescendo :superman:

Good to know it is easy but how would you unplug the lower sensor in the side of the road without lifting the car? By the right tools you mean screw drivers and such?. thanks for the info in advance
