So is everyone going to slow down now?

Of course, the speeding element of it is just the headline. This is a general measure to increase the maximum fines that magistrates can impose in all cases they hear. A substantial portion of offences affected by this have nothing to do with driving. But increasing the maximum fine, on its own, won't act as a deterrent. What is also needed is increased detection and enforcement.

It doesn't matter how big a fine might be if someone doesn't think they're going to be caught in the first place. And yes, I do mean people who use a hand-held mobile while driving.

no they still have to catch me

I am slow, tend to be in the first lane these days, slowest car on the motorways at 70mph, spoke to a few mates recently who've travelled big miles on the motorway, all said the same, never saw a traffic cop once, not once, so this is just another political spin from the government.
I found out the other day too that chief constables have no say on how police resources are used, its the police crime commissioner who tends to dictate, all on email too...

theres always police on the m/ways

im on there day and night in the lorry and there everywhere they just blend in these days with all there different cars.

Nope. I will still be right foot happy in the right place. The max fine may be rising but the fine you receive is still baser on your income and outgoings.Hence my fine for getting clocked at 128mph was only £420 max fine I think was £2500. I've not yet known anybody receive a fine actually exceeding £650

Ouch mate. mine was 128mph whilst "in convoy" with a friend in his Clio Cup 200, 56 day ban and £420. Mate in the Clio went to court on the day I got my licence back and got a 28 day ban and £300 fine. You weren't doing your s in the ice and fog were you as it seems a bit harsh?

Your lucky in convoy is like receing
Mine was in the 2009 floods the copper didn't have lights on so I gave him lip saying he should have them on he told me as a fact he's a copper he cad do what he likes
Was funny when my brief requested a copy of the audio from the car.

My solicitor said that too. No previous offences for speeding bar an SP30 in 1996, some cracking references from my boss and a friend who's a GP help greatly.
