Undo the steering bolt that holds the wheel on make sure the steering wheel is straight and take the keys out of the ignition to lock the steering. The steering will be marked as can see from picture so just in case you forget where it goes

Then to do the last thing is to run a vehicle scan and clear all dtcs stored the last part of the coding is lock the steering wheel to the left then all the way to the right centralise it then drive straight for 200 yards

then I checked if it worked

You should update your vcds to latest version 11.

I keep meaning do it just haven't got round to it don't use it that much if I'm honest had it when it 1st came out this version when I had a polo gti.

Great one mate, (should be a sticky) going to do mine soon. Guide will be very helpful.
Hoping you, Nigel or anyone can help:
Fitting mfsw as well,
Got a secondhand squib and steering module
Airbag cable
Mfsw
Cruise and dis stalk

Assume I have to code the abs and steering? How do i work the login for the abs?
Also did you torque the steering wheel bolt? (Don't have a torque wrench at the mo)

Was planning on fitting Sunday before we go on holiday next week so didn't want to do it and get stuck with the coding.

Thanks guys

Nice write up. Inspired me to get around and fit cruise into mine :)

When removing the airbag I just unclipped the purple/yellow connector and left the airbag connected to the steering wheel. Hope there's no reason I shouldn't have done that!

I struggled to unclip the connector on the slip ring so ended up removing the driver's footwell trim to get at it from behind.

Also forgot to buy the replacement lower cowling - so ended up bodging the existing one with a hole saw...

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1371156171381265

It's not terrible but might need sorting at some point!

BTW - Anyone know if the B7 MFSW is deeper than the B6 sport (3 spoke)? I installed cruise on my old B6 a while back, and am pretty sure I had all the same tools to hand this time, but when I came to remove the MFSW on my B7 this evening my socket wouldn't reach so I had to put the airbag back on and go and buy an extension arm for my wrench...

Great write up, something I have been thinking about having fitted.
What was the total cost of the parts?

I'm working from memory here, so not exact prices as I dont have them to hand - but think the cruise kit (new from an audi dealer on ebay) came in at about £65, including the cowling.

If you're doing DIS too, you can pick up a second hand stalk - cant remember how much I paid for mine, £30ish? One from a B6 will work, but remember avant / saloon are different stalks.

Good wee write up though mate!

When we coded mine though, I dont remember having to do the lock to lock and driving bit..... is that always needed? Everything works as i'd expect....

I don't think so - I didn't do it either. I did it after changing the steering column module on my B6 though - I had ABS errors after that install and the steering sensor alignment was given in a guide I had found online for coding the new module. But on my B7 I didn't have to change the module and so got no ABS errors so didn't bother.

The ABS warning light came on the dash though (I think just cos I'd disconnected the battery) but that goes out as soon as you drive the car....

Have you got a part number for the cruise kit please?

That's what I pay my sponsorship for matey, put the effort in & hopefully you get something back :)

Sorry I missed your post, I travel to fit systems mate, so please PM me your rough location & we can see what we can get sorted for you.

I can maybe get the wheel, send me some data on your car like vin & we can go from there please :)

Hi All, ok tried fitting cruise and a new dis stalk today, got the wheel off and airbag no problem . Fitted the new dis stalk but when I came to fitting the cruise stalk I could not get it to fit , can't see how the indicator stalk pulls forward enough to get the cruise to slot in . Dis on display still only shows miles to empty so looks like that gotta be activated too.
Steering wheel now re fitted road tested as a s light was on but went off after a mile or so but airbag light now on 😒

Anyone give me more detail please on how the cruise stalk exactly fits in and how I can get the wiper stalk forwards enough to get the cruise to slot in ?

Thanks,

Si

Ok update for ya all,

Cruise fitted and activated 😃 got the dis activated too !!

Only problem I got now is the waher bottle error and now my rear number plate led's I had of trups is now showing a bulb failure 😒

Gentlemen ,

I bought the my A4 last july ,there is a cruise control stalk installed but I have fiddled with it and nothing happens from my tinkering .

Is there anyway to test the cruise control to see if there is a fault somewhere?

If your cruise is not working I would bet on a failed clutch or brake light switch.

Now you say switch.... You mean a fuse ? How do I poke about this I'm off tomorrow .

There are switches on both the brake and clutch pedals.

Interesting.

How do you check these ? Big, complicated or epensive jobs ?

You can check the switch operation with vagcom.

then change the 4th digit to 4

I have a query regards this step... I was messing around with vcds to see if I have the côrrect board to accept cruise, I have the multi function steering with telephone controls but the part where it says to change to 4, the picture shows it's set to 1, board installed, but mine is set to 0, board and cruise not installed..would that mean mine isn't suitable?

Anyone in the North West area have knowledge of anyone re supply and fit a cruise system, cheers
Rob

Yeap I can sort this for you, are you about tomorrow :)

Ping me a PM & we'll converse :)

Fitted my cruise today. The measuring blocks show the switch functioning but nothing happens. No fault codes come up on vcds any ideas?

Sorted it. Was the clutch switch didnt realise it didnt throw a fault code up der

Hi, can anyone help?
I've just fitted my cruise control, (already have mfsw and dis) my friend tried to code it but his vag com wouldn't let him go into coding 11 it wasn't lit up. It's says we need a security code to access it??
B7 2.0 tfsi 2004 (yes 2004)
Can anyone help please???

So I'm looking at retrofitting cruise into my car..

Looking at those eBay kits that were mentioned,
But what parts would I need??

The stalk
Cowling..

Any switches etc?

Edit:
I have DIS and MFSW..

So it would be simply the stalk and cowling??
