Corrosion on b6 decision contested?

Its all very interesting reading. I took mine in last year for bubbling on the front wings and got the same response as everyone else, a load of feeble excuses. I didnt pursue any further but wish I had now after reading all this. I ended up paying a very good local bodyshop to fit new OE front wings and paint them.

I have since noticed bubbles on one of my rear arches so I'll be asking my local dealer to take a look soon.

Good Luck to everyone in a similar boat, i think we'll need it.

I've got bubbling on all 4 arches unfortunately, something I overlooked when buying due to everything else being right and it raining at the time ( will not view/buy a car in the rain again!)

I'll give my local a go, it's had servicing in the past from Audi but certainly not all of it, but as stated what has that got to do with the warranty.

Little update, AUDI still won't change from their 70/30 split even though I've got dealer paperwork stating it's a manufacturing fault. They say I have to get an independent inspection and if they agree with me then Audi will pay 100% and reimburse me for the cost! So independent inspection it is!

So you just need another bodyshop to go yep that rust was Audi's fault due to manufacturing process and they will cough up?

Seems a very pointless exercise as surely they know anyone else will point out there at fault.

No an independent inspection from a motor engineers. (One they say I have to use at a cost to me of £160+vat) on reflection I'll just go small claims I reckon as I've got the proof!

??
One that they say you have to use? What a load of ********. Wonder what the outcome of that's gonna be....hmm

i've come to the conclusion that audi customer service is utter crap. the monkeys in carlisle are hopeless. twice i've been in about rusty wing on mine and they took paint reading and my number and still never heard from them.

went in 2 days ago looking for a part but didnt know the number, i found it online and asked for a price. couldnt give me it and said they'd call back, guess what... yeah.

Audi customer service is absolute ****e, I'll be getting a BMW next, they are repairing E46 M3's that have rust or fractured boot floors and covering 100% of the costs. I won't be getting another AUDI that's for sure.

Well for poop and giggles I went to Colchester Audi today and they got there little paint depth meter out, and came to the conclusion that all 4 arches have had previous paint work and and even if they didn't it was the stone chips that did it, not the silly carpet arch liners.

Seeing as they didn't take any details I might try the Chelmsford one next.

Well, I've gone public and it's gone on twitter! Check it out and everyone join in bothering Audi! Get pictures of your rust posted

did you @audi or something? i'll post mine in a few mins

I'm rubbish at Twitter but I think you want @AudiUKCare, thats AudiUK Customer Care account which does tweet and has loads of followers.

Anyone done Facebook yet? I'll take a few snaps later and stick them on Twitter too, (if I can work out how to use it, haha)

EDIT- I've just tweeted a few pics to @audiukcare, there standard reply seems to be email us and we'll talk.

And now on facebook.

Although all they reply to any complaints is " Hi _____, we're sorry to hear your unhappy. Please email facebook/tweeter@audi.co.uk with your contact details and we'll give you a call to try and help"

Standard reply received....

I have said via email..

"Hello,

Thank you for your response on Facebook.

My frustration started yesterday when I called into Colchester Audi to raise my concerns about my corrosion issues that you saw in my pictures.

I was quickly dismissed being told it was caused by stone chips or additional paint near the area.

However I'm well aware it's a known issue to yourselves and am thoroughly frustrated that I got the impression you can't be bothered to look after your customers that can't afford a brand new car off your forecourts.

Regards

Paul"

So how far have other people got recently?

I'm up to here-

"In view of your disappointment, you may wish to consider having an independent inspection of your car carried out, in order to
reach a satisfactory conclusion to this matter.

PVWI Limited, which is a paintwork inspection company independent of Audi UK, can inspect your car. Please be advised that as
this is being carried out on your behalf, you will be liable to pay their fee for this service and costs start from 130.00gbp
plus VAT.

The contact details of PVWI are detailed below:

E: office@pvwi2010.co.uk

T: 01934853848

Should this opinion contradict the opinion of Colchester Audi, as long as supporting documentation is available, we will, of
course, pursue this mater further to seek a mutually agreeable resolution."

Naturally I'm not going to pay for a company in Audis pocket to tell me the same as Audi.

I was considering small claims court or CAB? is there an ombudsman for this kind of thing?

Hi,

Who is where with this? I will shortly be going back in to argue over my roof corrosion. 04 A4 S line 190. The front arches are appalling but I will get them replaced independently since some a--hole dented one in a car park.
I originally got offered 70/30 for the roof and declined since like others, I don't think it's right. Audi Camberley was where I went.

I argued with Audi again after there last reply, but I came to a slow dead end, I couldn't get a report done by someone else and can't afford to shell out £160 odd on a whim that Audi then might decide to cough up.

The winter is not treating my arches well, washed it for the first time for a while at the weekend (too depressing cleaning it for what it will uncover!) So my arches are worse, not quite paint falling off but certainly close.

Might drive out to Chelmsford Audi tomorrow and try my luck. Does any one have any paper work on VW's technical report for arch warranty repair?

What kind of money are people paying to have the wings replaced and painted from there own pocket?

I tried going through Audi under warranty but got no where with them so i had to fork out myself. I bought a pair of genuine wings (didn't want pattern parts that wouldn't fit very well) from TPS through a friends garage which cost £300 then I paid £500 to have both wings and the front bumper painted.

Ouch, was afraid it would be a lot!

I went to Chelmsford Audi today and although they dealt with me better than Colchester ultimately they came to the same decision. My drivers side wing has had obvious (poor) repair work but the passenger side I had assumed was virgin, but I could of sworn I heard a small yelp of glee from the warranty inspection lady when she found a thicker area of paint, more than likely just blow over from a bonnet repair. All paint down by the corrosion was factory spec.

I've let them entertain me with a quote and kept on pushing them for a goodwill gesture due to it being a known issue.

So will see what they come back with.

i bought my car in 2006 from audi Edinburgh (i live in barnsley south yorkshire )
i bought it unseen on the proviso it was in good fettle and had not got any paintwork done
fast forward 5 years later and i have the tell tale blisters on front wings and also on the roof

the front wings claim was rejected because they say the wings had allready been painted
BANG i drop the original receipt on the desk stating that when i bought the car no paintwork had been done

"well im afraid sir thats an issue you will have to resolve with audi edinburgh"
even though it stated as much on the receipt they were not interested whatsoever
i complained to audi u.k and again got nowhere
they agreed to do a roof respray at 70/30 contribution but even this was £550 and i could get it done cheaper
and equally as good by a friend

for this reason and this alone i will NEVER EVER use an audi dealer for servicing nor will i ever buy a car directly from an audi dealer again

i bought my new car an a8 from john holland cars in sheffield and have had a fantastic experiance with them
even when there was a problem with the car they could not help enough i would buy another car from them everyday of the week

My arches are shot too but don't think I will bother frustrating myself by taking up the cause with Audi.

Had similar fight with Mazda few years ago with my RX8 where the oil cooler pipes corrode and the rear boot lid rust issue

Same thing. I had another pop at Stafford Audi while she was in for servicing last month. Came back with the same ***** "not warranty due to lack of maintenance, possibly a chip, or something not being touched in and remedied soon enough causing corrosion". Made me so angry...It really infuriates me how they try and treat you like you're stupid. The car's barely got 70k on it for God's sake and has been treated like a queen by both its previous (1st owner) and me. Never been anywhere other than Audi for all it's work. Anywho...

Argued the toss, but at the end of the day it's pretty much out of the dealerships hands once Warranty have made their decision. Next option was to ring Audi UK who won't be able to overturn any decision until you call out their specified engineers (PVWI, I think) at a cost of approx £160. Spoke to the guy at PVWI and he said, honestly, it's not gonna happen. He said generally Audi don't tend to pay out after 7 years old, and on some rare occasions 10 years, but at a month or two before 12 yrs old he said I've got little chance. I explained the areas afflicted and he knew straight away how, where and why and.went into the whole arch-liner discussion and how it causes the damage due to trapped ***** between the liner and wing, then the galvanization process, etc, etc. He said the only way it's got a chance of getting through the inspection with a result in my favour is if I get a biro and stick it on the rust and it goes straight through the wing?? He said something about it being some sort of,... I dunno...reason that it might be covered. Obviously I told him that mine was not that far gone as it is just starting to blister, If I stuck a biro on it, it would just paint my silver wing black...!!

Then we discussed legal issues and he went into a bunch of legal blurb whereby technically the manufacturer can prove in court that their vehicle was yada, yada, and did what it states in their vehicle warranty terms that it would do, then started talking some stuff about the vehicle warranty and the technicalities and limitations of the "anti-corrosion warranty". To be honest the guy was seriously, seriously, knowledgeable, he himself has vast experience of paint and bodywork from a lifetime in the actual paint manufacturing and body production industry, so his knowledge is really from a grass-roots level, hence why a lot of the time what he said often went over my head so I can't properly remember and explain all the things he mentioned and we discussed. And if he was willing to say no to £160 then I'd be inclined to just take his advice and save the hassle.

I know, I also feel that these fools at Audi need to be fought and overcome but I haven't got the legal or technical expertise to show them what for, so I'll just chalk this one up to 'the-joys-of-owning-a-used-car' along with the other £2.5k I've spent on her the last 2 years. Obviously Audi know that 90% of people will sack it off rather than pay the engineers fee and gamble with the outcome, and that's what they count on. Either way, I'm not a gambling man so I'm gonna get a pair of new wings from Audi/TPS (Stoke Audi came in cheaper actually, at about £160ish incl.vat if I collect) and like Greeny, I reckon I'll just get a full front end respray while I'm at it. I'm just after a damn good bodyshop to do it 'cos I'm a proper fussy git and want it to be done perfectly, hence no pattern parts. (Answers on a postcard please!!)

I called Stafford Audi's bodyshop who are actually based at Crewe and they quoted approx £500+ vat per side to paint and fit IF I provided the wings, didn't even bother asking for the whole lot. I'm sure others might be able to get the total down, give or take, at their local dealership but this was just a ball park figure over the phone. Either way, I'm not paying that much.....

I strongly suggest to anyone who is at various stages of dispute with Audi, or thinking about having a go, to just call PVWI and speak to the boss man, he will enlighten you with anything and everything to do with the paint and body on your car and maybe you might be able to glean some useful information from him that you can use to your advantage, either to throw back at Audi or aid you to better make your decision how to go about dealing with your claim.

Good luck :)

Interesting stuff TheDriver. I take it thats £160 a side on the wings.

My dealings with Audi will now come to an end.

Chelmsford Audi have quoted me £1500 plus VAT to replace both wings and blend into doors.

They stated this in reply to me pushing for at least a goodwill gesture on the wing which had mostly likely been blended into from a bonnet repair-

"The passenger wheel arch you wanted to check for goodwill, had no goodwill available, due to the age of the car as well as mileage therefore your AUDI won’t be repaired through Audi warranty."

I replied stating my car is within the 12 year warranty and that no mention of limited mileage is mentioned in my warranty booklet. I know even if they do offer discount it wont be anywhere near enough to make it cheaper to get it done privately but hey, it's nice wasting some of there time.

Hiya Paul,

Yeah that was per side. TPS Liverpool have quoted me £132+vat each but that's pretty much the same price as Stoke Audi give or take.

I've heard it all now! It's great isn't it? All the bogus excuses they give to different people at different times of the day. Mileage too high, poor maintenance, didn't inform us soon enough and now it's so far gone that we're not going to do anything for you, not got full Audi history, didn't buy the car from an Audi dealers, your glasses are steamed up, a bird crapped on it last Sunday, etc ,etc.

I read a posting from a forum member that had both his done for free, in fact it was in the 'new' B6 classified ads forum. He had his car up for sale and mentioned a few times that Audi supplied and fit both front wings in 2013 I believe? May be worth hitting him up and seeing how and where he managed to get such a favourable result. There just seems to be no parity amongst the decisions with Audi. VW have the same corrosion problem on the wings (Golf/Passat) and generally they acknowledge it and give 100% repair without much fuss. Audi though, deny there's any problem. They'd hate to have anything of any detriment said about their precious luxury brand/automobiles. Well annoying....

I'm up against audi in the small claims court soon. Any information would be greatly received. I'm looking to find a few answers.

Is the wing corrosion usually caused by water getting in through a cavity containing foam for noise insulation?

Is there a document highlighting any issues? I can't find one.....

Are there any warranty details for corrosion on the B6 model? Terms and conditions etc.....

Thanks.... Alan.

My battle is over. Having had work done on both sides I have no hope. I'm just arguing with Chelmsford Audi for the fun of it now, plus I don't like being lied to.

Here's a bit more crud being said-

"By following Audi’s warranty guidelines, corrosion of vehicles are covered for up to 12 years from first registration of the car however the damage you have found on your vehicle is not corrosion and can’t be covered by Audi warranty. The damage to both wings are due to bad previous paintwork repair. If you want to take this situation further you can contact Audi UK."

I have replied-

"
Hi Kerry,

Thank you again for your reply. Unfortunately you seemed to of missed my point? Your reasoning for not able to give a goodwill gesture was due to the age and mileage of my car, yet neither of those would affect my warranty if my car hadn't had previous work done.

My car was registered in December 2003, 12 years later is Decemeber 2015. So my car is still in warranty. Mileage is not a factor mentioned in the warranty booklet.

The corrosion is caused by bad manufacturing process not by previous work, the previous work is merely Audi's loop hole on the warranty. The corrosion occurs on A LOT of B6 A4's because the fabric arch lining collects road debris and basically turns into sandpaper rubbing against the inside of the arch, thus wearing away the galvanized layer leaving the wing vulnerable to rust. No need to deny what has happened.

I fully accept your decision and I'm well aware of the terms and condition that if a body panel has been previously repaired it is not covered, I don't appreciate you feeding me lies about why you won't help with the cost.

Many Thanks

Paul."

Nifty.... There's no technical bulletin that I know of for audi but scroll to the bottom of THIS page for the one on passats, could be of use?

The only details of the warranty I have are in the Breakdown and Warranty booklet, kept in the wallet with instruction manual. If you don't have one, I can take a picture of the page for you.

Thanks Paul... I'd appreciate a photo of that... I'm sorry to hear of yet another customer cheated.... I feel I'm going to be next unfortunately...

Well they have stopped entertaining me now, here's the you know far too much about the corrosion issue reply

"I’m sorry that you feel as though I am lying to you, but both me and the warranty controller are following the Audi warranty terms and conditions which is why we can’t help you in this situation. I can only suggest that you take this up with Audi UK."

And once again dodging the questions and points raised.

The booklet in question-

and the all important warranty-
