Hi, I would just like to know what parts I would need and how much it would cost to convert an Audi a4 b5 in to an Audi a4 b5 QUATTRO?

Trying to find an A4 Quattro (b5) is quite literally like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. Well especially considering I want one in either red or black.

Thanks, Tez

Unless you want to weld the quattro floor pan in from rear of front seats back including inner arches . Then tank?, axles, box, suspension ,prop etc

It would be easier looking for one in any colour and painting it...

Ideally what are you looking for? saloon, avant, 1.8t, 1.9tdi or 2.5tdi?

I wanted a 1.9tdi avant quattro in any colour.. but it needed to be the 1.9tdi avant!!
I had seen a few but they were either miles away and out my budget or spares or repairs and miles away..
nothing was local as I would have even bought one local as spares or repair.

luckily I spotted the one ive got now on gumtree and it was only 20 miles away and was badly advertised.
the title was " old audi" and all the description said was "old audi quattro good on fuel rough around the edges"
it was the fact I was searching audi diesel estate I put 2 and 2 together.. it was sitting in my drive the next morning.

keep looking you will get one you just need to be realistic on what ones to look for.

Yeh as above its simply not worth trying to convert it. You essentially need a quattro spares car to cut the floor out of and to remove all the rear drivetrain from, and if you've got such a spares car you might as well just drive it instead.

There is plenty quattros for sale unless diesel ones. Convertion would probably cost more than a car anyway.

Mmm I suppose so, I'm looking for a 1.9tdi saloon quattro, with full service history.

I don't mind where it is, I have seen so few that I would be willing to travel anywhere just to get one, I really like the b5 shape and quattro with the economy would be wonderful, especially if it means I can carry on driving a German car aha.

Cheers, ideally looking to buy in July/August.

Sounds like way too much hassle when I think about it, not cost effective and would take a silly amount of time, think I'm going to just hold out and try and find one in the spec I want.

There are, but a B5 1.9 tdi quattro saloon, with full service history seems to be a very rare car at the moment.

I have one, full service history, 160K, ported engine, THS de-cat pipe, bv43 turbo with billet compressor wheel, large injectors, re-mapped ecu and much more...

You selling it?

I'm looking to spend as little as possible £500-£1500 max

Yeah. 1.9 tdi quattros are rare.

AUDI A4 1.9 TDI QUATTRO - How Many Left?

there was just over 800 ever brought into the UK that number is for saloons and avants
at the end of 2013 there was 401 licensed and 77 on sorn according to how many left

That's not many at all! Didn't realise there were so few about. Although one should pop up in the next few months, well I hope so!

the only problem you're going to have now is I think there will be fewer people getting rid of them now.
they're starting to get into the possession of folk like us that will be wanting to keep hold of them.

I know myself mines will be with me for the foreseeable future. and Ive already been told from my mate if I do decide to sell it its going straight to him...

If I got one I would probably end up keeping it a very long time and spending a lot of money on it aha.

I just need to find one for going up and down to uni, which is 200 miles away. And then after uni I will have a big spend on it.

Seen a 1.9tdi saloon in red and that's up for £700 with fsh and only 140,000 miles and I have also seen a 1.9tdi Quattro that needs work doing but I could get that for £500/600, what would it cost to convert it?

Thanks Tez

Just hold out and buy a Quattro from the go !!

Don't waste your money trying to make something thats already been made and is readily available !!

I know, I've been looking and I can't seem to find one anywhere, that's the only reason why I considered this. If I could find one with fsh, manual, 1.9 tdi and Quattro in saloon I wouldn't be considering this.

and the FSH wouldnt be worth anything as the gearbox, diff and half the floor pan would have been converted..

why are you so hung up on a FSH? 9 out 10 times it doesnt really matter a monkeys on an old car. look at condition and mechanical condition that its in. ive seen cars that have no history but have been well looked after.
ive also seen ones with FSH that have been bags of bolts

My old 130 passat had a full VW service history and it gave me nothing but grief..
my old 110 sport passat had no history and only ever gave me a few niggles and never missed a beat..

on the other scale though my quattro has Audi history up to 145k and specialist up to 10k ago ( its on 197k ) and its a great going car I wouldnt hesitate to take it anywhere. but Ive serviced it fully since ive bought it and I know it will get what it needs and when it needs it.

It would be easier to put the good bits of the "decent" fwd car into the quattro than the other way round.

Its all pretty pointless though, just buy a quattro in the first place.

Show us a link to the quattro you've found that needs work?

My service history doesn't seem at all legit its a duplicate book so i don't trust it one bit, but has only ever gave me the common issues, it always gets the best i can give it, the bodywork isn't that great close up but in my head at least i no mechanically its pretty sound, and any issues are always sorted or planned well ahead. The bodywork will eventually get some paint work but for now im concentrating on getting it reliable and mechanically sound.

Well, mine doesn't have service history and it needs a lot of work. That said I didn't expect anything better. Half of the parts will be changed anyway. Labor costs of changing fwd to 4wd would be massive. You could probably get b6 for the same money.

But the B6 is one of the most horrible A4's there is IMHO lol

B6 can be changed to quattro with bolt on parts fwiw. Just buy that cheap quattro and throw some money at it to bring it up to spec. You'd still save thousands and have a good car. It's just a shame the tdi quattro is pfl only

Yeah it probably is but I loved it when i had mine. And it grew on me a lot. Still B5 and B7 my favourite.

i have to say i am lucky as i have a fwd 1.8t b5 as well as the turboless 1.8t quattro and i honestly prefer the feel of the fwd over the quattro, . i like the quattro in winter but i think 95 of the time a FWD will do.

just stick the badge on it
no one will ever know.

quattro has proper rear suspension and should handle much nicer. Ofcourse having proper rear suspension means theres twice as many bushes to wear out, and on any car this age, they'll all be shot to **** unless you've replaced them!

Ok, so basically this is an expensive and time consuming job, which is too much for just a cheap daily. Going to stick with just looking for a decent quattro. Thank-you all for your comments and advise.

Looking for an Audi A4 saloon 1.9 tdi Quattro, with a manual gearbox and Full Service History. If anyone has one for sale or sees one, please let me know.

Thanks, Tez
