Hi guys,

Seeing as I've got the S Line SE I'm looking to keep the black theme going. Have got some black badges for the exterior but have been looking into interior options.

As much as the silver interior trims that I already have look great I'm wondering if the interior would look better with black or CF trims. I did a bit of digging around and have found full CF trims from a B6 S4.

My question is: do you known if there are any differences in the CF weaves from B6 to B7 models?

The reason I ask is that I just received some pics of the trims today and they don't really show the CF weaves to be as nice as other CF parts I've seen on ebay. I'm wondering if maybe the B6 CF trims were different or if perhaps the photos just don't do the trims proper justice.

I have been assured they are genuine CF trims in good condition.

I really like to source genuine oem, but rare, parts for my cars (in the past), so I am really tempted by the CF parts for that reason and it will continue the black theme.

What are your thoughts regarding the different trims, and do you think having CF trims would work alongside the black theme or would it be too much and the silver suits better as it provides a contrast? I do really like the silver but sourcing a rarer OEM interior is very tempting!

Below are a few photos to show the trims.

Thanks,
Camster.

My CF trims look really good (B6 S4) and are very clear but very shiny as that's the look. I work with carbon fibre everyday and although it doesn't look like the absolute real thing because of the high polish it does look good and I would not have any other interior trim.

I was under the impression that they were all the same but cannot swear to it.

Hi Geoff, thanks for the reply.

Do the trims as pics above look like your ones? Those are also from a B6 S4.

For some reason the other CF parts I've seen on ebay seem to have nicer weaves, eg, item number 171246845738 and item number 400660041147 (can't post links as using my phone).

I would definitely be interested in the trims in the second ebay number but there is some damage to one of the trims, but the CF looks perfect. For some reason the pics I posted above don't look as good.

Would you say your trims are more like the ebay ones and maybe the pics above don't look as good due to the camera??

Just worried I get the B6 S4 trims and find the later S4/RS4 trims are nicer.

I'm hoping they are just poor pics and the trims will look just like the ebay ones. Reckon I will be buying them in the next day or two.

Thanks,
Camster.

There are definitely at least 2 different carbon interior trim weaves - the B6/B7 S4 has a different weave to the B7 RS4 (which I noticed the day I stepped out of my B6 S4 into my then new B7 RS4).

AFAIK the B6 S4 and B7 S4 weaves are the same...

Dave,

Thanks for the info. That would make sense I suppose. Double checking the ebay links both state RS4 trims but the pics I posted are definitely from an S4.

Are the pics I posted pretty accurate for the S4 trims or is it a bad photo of the weave? From the pics I've seen so far I prefer the RS4 trims so might just hold out for an undamaged set...or get the S4 ones ones now and buy RS4 ones if I source undamaged ones sometime in the future.

Thanks again,
Camster.

Those look like S4 trims to me, the RS4 trims have a coarser weave with a more visible diagonal effect.

Dave,

Thanks for that. Definitely confirms my suspicions then as the S4 trims did look different compared to other pics I had seen. Think I'll probably just not bother going for the S4 ones then.

The search continues...long live the silver trims, haha!

Thanks,
Camster.

Have you thought about getting your existing trim dipped. I used 'garnish dip' (weird name I know) for my Scooby and was very pleased with the results. Their catalogue is extensive, numerous carbons, wood, alloys etc and worth a look. Thinking about getting my golf done but a bit worried about getting the trim off without damaging it.

PS just looked at ebay, dipping would save you a fortune!

Stevie,

Thanks for the suggestion however when it comes to switching (upgrading) parts I always aim to find genuine OEM parts, or rare specific parts. I've seen a set of trims on ebay that have been hydrodipped and they do look really good but that isn't what I want. I'd rather oay extra for genuine CF.

One of my previous cars was a Honda and for that I had:
genuine Honda limited lip kit,
S2000 seats,
genuine upgraded black interior,
genuine lightweight Mugen race wheels,
Cusco coilovers.

To top it off it had rare extras like cruise control and heated mirrors.

After that I had a Mitsi GTO TT that had some damaged parts. Sorted it out as best I could with OEM parts with a plan to have the best condition OEM model out there as plenty have been poorly modified. Sadly that is sitting on a friend's drive wasting away with an engine fault I can't diagnose myself.

So that leads me to the Audi. I've got the S Line SE and has Quattro, so with all that comes with that I'm more than happy, I would just like the OEM CF trim to match the black interior. The silver looks great anyway so if I was to change I would only do it for genuine CF trims. Might just spend the cash on an RS4 ARB instead!!!

Cheers,
Camster.

You are quite right, OEM are always going to be best, was amazed at the results of the dipping though.

I've had a few Hondas and the S2000 was a car I always meant to get but somehow never managed.

Hydrodipping is definitely a great option but if there is a rare OEM part or rare aftermarket part then that is what I try to source.

S2000 was on my list of cars to get but hasn't happened yet. Might try and pick up a 1st gen as a project!

I wrapped mine in carbon fibre vinyl from ebay. Very cheap stuff and looks great.

Wrapping is definitely a great option and is very cheap to do, however, if there is an OEM alternative then that is what I try and find.

The CF wrap does look good though, as does the hydrodipping as well.

Thanks.

There are two different types I believe the rs4 have the bigger weave, I have these in my car. The ones you have are genuine but have the smaller weave. Mine are up for sale at the moment so if anyone is interested pm me.

Correct.

The RS4 has a much more open weave than the S4 type - having owned 2xS4 plus 1xRS4 the difference was one of the first things I noticed when I sat in the RS4.

Mine are the s4 ones that im selling I like both personally I think the s4 are smoother in apperance and look more intricate whereas the rs4 are more aggressive. I like both and as long as you have genuine bits they will always be worth money and will only ger rarer.

From the pictures I've seen I prefer the RS4 weave so am looking for those again. Had a set lined up but there was a small amount of damage on the driver door trim so was in two minds. While I was considering it someone else bought then instead...was at a great price though!

I'm still on the look out but it's purely for aesthetics only so should just stick with the OEM aluminium and buy something more useful like the RS4 ARB!

I have an S4 with carbon trim which I think looks good in the car and is my only choice as not a fan of the Alu and def not wood. I worked for a number of companies that use carbon fibre in large quantities every day and the RS4 looks more like the real thing but I do like my S4 carbon too.

If you can afford it buy OEM although the wrap does look good in the photos, not sure what its like ergonomically?

If it was me if buy the trims and the rarb haha. At some point you will end up doing both as like most on here we strive to meet our idea of perfection for some its aluminium trims for others its carbon. And the list is endless!

Are the B6 and B7 trims identical fitment then? I'm going to be after some silver ones soon.

As for S2000s, they're brilliant, and an absolute bargain! I've had one for the last 2 years or so, and am just about to change it for an A4.

Yes trims in the b6 And b7 are the same. I used to be a civic ek lover very nice! I do like the s2000 though! Id like an integra dc5 too
