Hi all

i have ordered an a3 saloon through our employers fleet management. This was done mid march.
Audi have accepted the order and put a build week 37 on it!!!!!! I never fell off my chair when I heard this.
So I rang audi customer service myself and asked what was going on. He said this was standard however this was nota confirmed build week from the factory and once they do it could be earlier but no guarantees.

Anyone have age any experience of this and can shed some light?
in don't think I can last driving this vauxhall until then!!

thanks

It's a poor show huh!
I ordered wk.6 and have been given build wk.26.

Some of those cars in the queue are for stock ordered by dealers. Find a dealer with an order in the queue and you may be able to amend the order to suit your spec.

Yes it's painful. I enquired at 5 dealers local to me and they were all quoting week 12-14 build. That was the first week of January. When the order actually went in the build week jumped to 20! Was a bit annoyed as felt slightly deceived now they had my deposit.

Hopefully it will come forward quite a bit - mine came forward three weeks to 17. It is still going to be four and half months start to finish to get mine though which is not great.

A friend of mine has just ordered an S3 SB and build week is 35 so you are not alone. Sometimes spec choice / colour choice determine build slots.

Bought 3 Audi's happened to me every time. First one 7 month, next one 6 months, this one 4.5 months. All quoted as much shorter timescales, all deadlines extended with no apology (as if it is what it is).

When I ordered mine through fleet I was initially told end of June (16wk wait).

Within a week though I was offered a car within two weeks if I dropped an option.

Presumably the car was either dealer stock or a last minute cancellation.

May reel it in a bit if you modify the spec a bit...but no guarantees I guess.

Which lease company does your company use?

Same here ordered mid Feb and enquired at 3 dealers all offered the same % discount etc but the dealer I order showed me his system and it said one was available for end of march 1st week of April delivery. Once deposit given it jumped to week 20 and that took 2 weeks to confirm that! Not moved forward at all either. huge spec mind you!

Ordered my company car last week of March and given Week 34 which makes it the end of August!!!

Dosnt sound to good. I ordered my S3 on the 18th of March and was given build week 19, so delivered to me start of June. My brother however ordered the new golf R at the same time and was given build week 30. His date was brought forward to build week 19.

Im pretty sure it will come forward quite a bit once build week is confirmed.

Sounds depressing! I ordered an a3 saloon through my works fleet company at end of Feb ... initially they said it would be a 12-16 week wait but sounds like i'll be hanging on longer :(

Umm, mine is due for replacement at the end of October, when should I be thinking about getting the new one ordered?

Purely based on my experience I reckon you'll need to order within the next month to have the best chance of getting something for end of Oct.

I ordered my 8V SB on 21 March and was given week 31 as the estimated build, with the dealer then suggesting a further month to get it delivered to UK and all the papers sorted. On that basis I'm not expecting to see it before early Sept, so about 5.5 months to wait. Luckily I'm in no great rush!

It's a LHD build for export though, so no chance of using an existing UK dealer slot to jump the queue. A RHD model order with a dealer who has a slot spare would hopefully get through the system quicker.

Will you be going for same again or different?

Now!

Seriously if build week comes forward and you are not ready to collect you can always get the dealer to hold on to it for a month or so. I done this with mine last year...March order eventually came forward to mid July delivery which I collected on 1 September

Maybe because they are right hand steering? My delivery was 1.5-2 months faster than originally estimated.

Don't get it with some of time you guys are being quoted - I ordered mine 01/04/2014 from Essex Audi. Week 19 build date confirmed for delivery late May/early June. 9/10 week wait and that's long enough. If I was quoted as long as some of you have been I'd not bother - plenty of nearly new A3's and S3's sitting at dealers now...

A lot depends if the dealer has a car on order which is not yet allocated to a customer and can the spec can be changed to suit an order. If not then you will have to wait the full factory order timescale which can be quite long. When I ordered my current 8V that is just what happened and my car was delivered in 9 weeks. Had this not happened it would have been 18-20 weeks.

There may be plenty of nearly new A3's and S3's sitting at dealers but none would be to the spec I would have wanted. I would have been happy to wait the 18-20 weeks if necessary to get exactly what I wanted.

Once you get into the Audi habit it's a good idea to get an order in early and amend if you want to. Often when supply exceeds demand you can steal and amend a dealer build slot but that can be hit and miss.

Bizarre that they're suddenly taking so long - my current car was at the dealer less than two months after the order was placed!

They are just too popular these days :)

My best friend had his M135i built to his spec and delivered in 7 weeks. I was quoted 6 when I looked at one.

Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing? I'm thinking it might be a bad thing especially considering the silly discounts BMW are doing. Can't bode well for future values.

Sometimes with a new car I think the fun is in the wait / anticipation. Well that's what I'm telling myself 16 weeks in!

Ordered mine end of Dec, don't have it yet, though it has been built. Last I heard it was on Emden docks. As for lots around, there weren't too many S3s just sitting about when I was ordering.

They seem to be rare and don't see many dealers with demonstrators. Swindon Audi were sharing theirs with Tetbury.

Salisbury Audi have a black S3 S-Tronic, Super sports seats, tech pack, piano black inserts, comfort pack, lane assist, ACC, mono pur and s-line alloys. Still sat there in showroom after 3 weeks which did surprise me. Lots of interest apparently but no one has signed on the dotted line!

Ordered first week of Feb, so just under 3 months ago and still no build date assigned, so I don't have any hope of seeing the car this year.

Plenty of others in Australia in the exact same situation.

That's relatively quick, I ordered mine end Nov with a delivery of 20th June!!

So how do you know when a build date has been assigned?

We ordered an S3 on the 21st January and was initially given build week 22, that came in to week 20. Around week 10 we changed the spec to an exclusive colour and it flew out to week 37. It's now come back in to week 27 but it'll be september before we see the car. It'll beat the 7 months we waited for our Golf R.

If it was the first time we'd been through this for a car It would really take something away from the whole experience but once you've been through it a few times you learn to accept thats the way it is if you want a car built to your spec with extras.

Wow - you have some patience. I'm sure whatever exclusive colour you have gone for will be worth it :sm4:

This is totally based on people I know at my company (who have access to a large company car list) and it would appear Audi / VW have the longest wait periods by far. People order Mercs, BMWs, Citreon, Ford, MINI, Lexus, Skoda or Audi / VW mostly. Most makes would say are 8-10 weeks where as 16 weeks seems to be the norm for Audi / VW. Not many people go for Skoda but a girl in my office is still waiting for her Yeti and it was ordered just after Christmas.

Either capacity is maxed out in the VAG group or they just sell more cars...

Mine was just shy of 18 weeks in the end, so pretty close to your 16 week average.

So how do you know when a build date has been assigned?

By constantly getting into contact with the dealership, they check the computer system. So far only 3 S3 Seadn in Sepang Blue has been given a build date in Australia, and the rest of us are waiting at this stage.

Latest update on my car:

Hope you are having a good week so far, just to give you update regarding your new S3, we have a confirmed week 19 build which means your car will go into production on Monday 5th May and from there we will be looking at 5 – 6 weeks before car is on forecourt.

Have a good weekend.

Kind regards

That's terrible! Last two Audis I have ordered both took 10 weeks, from signing on the dotted to driving the car off the forecourt. My S3 looks like it'll be 9 weeks, possibly 10. I put it down to the salesperson, as the chap I have bought all three cars from is very clued up when it comes to getting the car in quickly. I told him I wanted it before June and he said, give me the order on the 1st April and you'll have it in June.
