Dealer just called me to say audi bike rack requires a towbar ... And that'll be another 400 to fit. Agh. Anyone out there found a good, paintwork safe, way of transporting 2 bikes on a 3 door? No roof rails...

Thanks

Matt

AFAIK, towbar is not an option on S3!

It isn't... not type approved and issues with exhaust apparently. You can probably get a retrofit on roof rails, it was possible locally with 8P versions.

The Integrated roof rails are so much more secure than the conventional 'roof rack' style

You don't need to have roof rails to have roof bars...
I don't have roof rails, because I didn't like how they look on the car, too short. :) But I have Thules roof bars when needed to have something on the roof.

S3 3door can't get integral rails. Thule roof bars then?

Don't know about the Thule roof bars on the 3 door version... Maybe, maybe not. Sportback they will fit at least. But I would check if you have the "holes" :)

But I guess there will be no hole in the back, because of the missing door. :D

EDIT:
When thinking about it, I wonder how would you actually attach Roof Bar in the back?? Could be that its not possible at all to have any roof bars in the 3 door version. But I would raise the question to the dealer!

Saris Bones?

I'm thinking about trying one as I hate mounting bikes on roof racks. Only issue is you may have to get an additional lighting board / number plate if the set up obscures your car too much.

This should work on 3dr. If it's anything like 3 dr Golf you have to gently prise back rubbers.

Thule Rapid System 754
Thule WingBar 969
Kit 1708 Rapid

Just sold my 754 (from A7).

Bar size is the recommended size but others fit. Just make sure they don't stick out too far or you could be in trouble!

I've got the thule roof bars for my sportback without rails and the instructions do refer to fitting on a 3dr too so yes, they will work.

Rock solid too, no problem at all.
